Posted June 9, 200618 yr One more question about the breeding cage, should there be any toys in the cage? Will these cause distractions? Edited June 9, 200618 yr by CherokeesBudgies
June 9, 200618 yr I would suggest just two budgies of the right age and the right frame of mind to breed, also seed and water. No toys. Make sure they have a good "bonking perch" nothing too flimsy or unstable............
June 17, 200618 yr That's what I thought. Why make it boring? Apparently it is better if they are given the ability to keep active, babies are usually healthier, so I have read. So I think keeping toys in would be a good idea. Flight time is, apparently, good for them during this time as well. Edited June 17, 200618 yr by Sailorwolf
June 17, 200618 yr since they r gonna get bored can u like take them out and let them come out and fly around
June 17, 200618 yr No, i wouldnt suggest letting them fly around (As my breeding male is flying free in room right now (Laughing out loud))...i just let him becuase he sits there all day, and becuase i dont think the eggs are fertile. . . . Allthogh some might be I HOPE THEY ARE THOUGH!!!!!! I let my other fly around though... Hens on eggs dont leave, they justs stay in nest being good moms . I just put a chewy toy in there for the male to do something, plus it adds colour to the boring cage (Laughing out loud) Kirby

June 20, 200618 yr I read on budgerigarsgalore.co.uk that letting them exercise, out for free flight time is good for the parents and the babies.
June 20, 200618 yr a fit budgie is a good breeder. a fat budgie isn't. The Bigger the breeding cage the better the results. But availible space will dictate the size of the box.
June 20, 200618 yr toys can distract from the reason they were put into the breeding cage a member of our local club tryed toys a few years back and results dropped by 40%
