Yep we are almost exactly 12 hours ahead of you Nathan. I don't normally go to bed before midnight, but I have had a big day working on some leadlights and more planned for tomorrow. I am happy about the yellow baby DFS and also the other spangles. Since the normals will be split for spangle too, there's no excuse not to keep the lot but we will see. -quote budgiebird

Spangle is dominant. You will not get any normals split for spangle. Because if they are split for spangle, they are spangle. Split means they are heterozygous or single factor. And as you know SF spangle is a spangle. If the spangle allele is present, it will show. Normals are recessive i.e. they do not carry the spangle gene.

Hey Shawna...."poorly marked" only matter to people who show budgies, eh? Not to us who love them for all their little ways. :)

I think, with the babies, I got two girls and one boy :P

Really cool. I love the way double factor works. I am excited about these blue and yellow spangle bubbies too. I have also Melon and Jonas about to have a hatching and she sits on 6 eggs ( both spangles ) and another spangle pair ( Jazz and Slinkie )....no eggs yet. Interesting results from spangles. Here is Jazz and Slinkie. Their debut...haven't been on before

You can visit anytime Cheeta :)

so 3 colbalt YF spangles a DF spangle and a normal green

Yellowface is like spangle they can't be split because yellow face is dominant, if they are a double factor yellowface then they appear visually white faced, similar to the double factor spangle where they have no markings.

But Nerwen said ......QUOTE "I think she (Mum) is split for

yellowface blue and also all the boys will be carring the opaline gene from

her. ".....now I am confused

:)

well then, but I thought they can't be split for a dominant gene, just ask her what I said is right and she can correct it and you can post it :)

coming back to my thoughts maybe she is saying mom is split for blue because she is green she wasn't talking about the yellowface gene??

coming back to my thoughts maybe she is saying mom is split for blue because she is green she wasn't talking about the yellowface gene??

Thats what I was thinking but the more I read the more I get confused here........

i.e. quote

1. Goldenface Blue

2. Yellowface Blue Mutant 2

3. Yellowface Blue Mutant 1

4. Whiteface Blue

Green can be split for any one of the four mutations - but for only one, otherwise it would not be a visual Green at all. Goldenface Blue (:) can be split, or carry a partner gene of any one of the three mutations below it in the pile. If a © or (d) gene partners the (:D gene, the visual result will be the same, or very, very, similar to the double factor Goldenface Blue bird.

and QUOTE "At present, some people call a Green bird which carries one mutant gene of the allelic series mentioned, a Yellowface Green, when they should rightly call it a Light (or Dark, etc) Green split Yellowface Mutant 1 Blue (or Mutant 2, or Goldenface Blue). All Blue series birds, whether they be Yellowface, Goldenface or Whiteface, are recessive to Green, so a visually Green bird can be split for Yellowface Blue Mutant 1, Yellowface Blue Mutant 2, or Goldenface Blue, in exactly the same way as it can be for ordinary Whiteface Blue. A Blue bird of any of the mutations mentioned, when bred with another Blue bird of the same or any other Blue mutation will produce a Blue result, whether it be Yellowface, Goldenface or Whiteface."

Edited by budgiebird

but that doesn't answer the question if the yellowface gene can be split,

Yellowface Blue Mutant 1 - this would be the Type 1 that we say

Yellowface Blue Mutant 2 this would be the Type 2

Goldenface Blue - that would be more yellow golden yellowface

but they don't mention the doublefactors which are visually white

but it doesn't explain how the yellowface gene works...

What about this part of the quote above................a visually Green bird can be split for Yellowface Blue Mutant 1, Yellowface Blue Mutant 2, or Goldenface Blue, in exactly the same way as it can be for ordinary Whiteface Blue. A Blue bird of any of the mutations mentioned, when bred with another Blue bird of the same or any other Blue mutation will produce a Blue result, whether it be Yellowface, Goldenface or Whiteface.".....Really confusing. Nerwen where are you ? :)

and doublefactors are also yellow.

Edited by budgiebird

in the article that is being debated

doublefactors' faces are visually white so you can have a double factor blue bird and not know because it is carrying 2 yellowfaced genes.

As for the green birds, I remember Nerwen saying to me there is no such thing as a yellowface maybe she has changed her mind?

Very interesting debate all this genetics. We all learn by it :dbb1:

What lovey said first was right.

You can't be split for a dominant gene, because when a dominant gene is present, it will always show.

YF is dominant.

Greens, should be able to carry the YF gene, it just isn't visible, because they already have a yellow face.
