Budgie Loves It's Cage?

Tonight I was amazed when I witnessed my baby budgie fly across the room, into it's cage.

Earlier today I had a treat (seed block) in front of my fish tank, with an area for the bird to sit and peck away till it's hearts content. Was doing so for an hour while I was here at the computer. It was chirping so I assume it was quite happy where it was while eating every now and again. At about the hour it flew across the room, and right next to me on some furniture. I think it must've gotten bored. I had to go out shortly after so I put it in it's cage.

Later on tonight I thought i'd put him back out as he seemed to like it. After about ten minutes, it flew from it's spot across the room, and landed on the side of it's cage. It worked it's way around to the front opening and jumped up on it's normal pearch. I thought this was amazing! It either wanted to play with it's toys, or just likes its home.

Anyone else have similar stories or words of advice? Thoughts?

Regards,

Rob

The one we have now does the same.. he isn't or rather wasn't a baby budgie..

I though it was cool too that he did this and has done ever since..

I did change his cage to one with a bigger opening door, its one that drops down and held with a hook.. the one before had a small door between the food dishes.. now he has it easy

Ours isn't tame yet! we are working on that by us sitting close to the cage holding millet and he will come close enough to nibble at it.. nearly flew on my arm... so we are getting there.

We must have smart budgies that love their cages

Buster LOVES his cage. He can't fly now but when he could he would just fly back to it when he was ready. Now he will jump onto the legs of the stand and chirp until you put him in his cage.

casper will spend hours outside his cage, sitting on his play gym thingy on top, then ill turn around to do something else and when i look back he's inside again! He climbs around the outside too. Am yet to see him go the other way... come out of his own accord when i open the door. He will usually just get on my finger for me to get him out.

:P Security blanket, your little guy knows where his food, water and toys are and he feels safe there in his cage, smart little guy. :(

hehe it's definitely a security thing, Stitch is out of his cage most of the day but he always goes back to it if he gets scared or in trouble! Often he goes inside it in the afternoon when it gets too dark for him to see properly if we forget to put him to bed.

My birds like to walk on top of their cage or chill on their outside perch. They love to climb up and down the old Yaffa block I have (incredibly bird safe). Mine let me know when they want back in, but they sure love their freedom. They sing, chirrup, play, eat, poop, etc. in their cage (Laughing out loud) I guess they know they are pretty well taken care of in there.
