Posted May 22, 200619 yr Swift and Rockets babies are coming along well. Swift is a good Mum and the babies are the healthiest looking batch of wigglers. Here is a group shot and I will take more when some colours start to happen Mum (SWIFT) Parents Swift and Rocket any guesses on colours of babies ?
May 22, 200619 yr Author Mum is the green budgie and Dad the mauve spangle..........so far too hard to tell. Two seem to have yellow edges to their wings....so maybe like Mum ?
May 22, 200619 yr I think that they're all going to be green, im not sure though i thought i read green and blue make green. Blue spangles would be awsome though. Hopefully you can get both.
May 22, 200619 yr Oh my, I think you're gonna get some dark eyed clear there... :fear Or what ever they're call when you get double factor spangle!!! Or at least I hope so.. that'll be sooooo cool!!!!
May 22, 200619 yr Awwe! Look at them. They are going to be gorgeous I'm sure! Keep the pics coming!!!
May 22, 200619 yr Awwwwwwwwwww.... I named Swift! I love the pics Budgiebird! I especially love the one, with your finger coming into the nest box entrance, and all babies are playing ded, and flat on ground! awwww! :fear Kirby
May 23, 200619 yr Author Oh my, I think you're gonna get some dark eyed clear there... Or what ever they're call when you get double factor spangle!!! Or at least I hope so.. that'll be sooooo cool!!!! Two of the babies so far are feathering up whitish with dark eyes. and the other three have yellow feathers on edges of wings and tails. May 23, 200619 yr Double factor spangle is not a dark eyed clear. There is a marked difference between the two. Dark eyed clears have no iris rings, whereas DF spangles have iris rings. If you breed a blue to a green you can get blues. Yo will either get half blue and half green (if your green parent is heterozygous) or all greens (if your green parent is homozygous dominant). You should get all cobalts (for blue babies) and all dark greens (for green babies. If either of your parents are carrying violet factor you will get at least half or all of the blue babies violet (because they will all be cobalt). You will get heterozygous opaline males (they won't appear opaline) unless your male is carrying and opaline allele and in that case 50 % of you babies will be opaline (25% girls and 25% boys). That combo is likely as most males these days are split for opaline. Depending on the hidden alleles, you could get any thing else. Happy budgying Oooh yes. Do you know what Swift and Rocket's parents are. That should halp tell you what recessives they may be carrying.
May 23, 200619 yr Author Unfortunately NO I don't knw who the parents are. Three babies so far look like they may be greens, and two seem to be staying whitish.
May 23, 200619 yr oh okay, well whatever the DF spangle is, they are gorgeous!! I just love the black eyes in the pure white or pure yellow. gorgeous!! :ausb:
May 23, 200619 yr Author Not good photos, but the best I could do today during the rain. Swift was only out of the box for a short while.
May 23, 200619 yr SHES ABSOLUTLY GORGEOUS ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! OHH MAN! Your right Thistyfiveblack! WOOWOWOWOWOWOWO ! ! ! :ausb: Kirby
May 25, 200619 yr Author Swift and Rockets babies are doing well. They are a very healthy and vigorous bunch of baby budgies. And they are an interesting batch. Three that looked normals to me originally are not. One may be but the other two have lighter wing colours tinged with yellow. The two youngest babies are may be white ( so far ), one with yellow on its wings. From two spangle parents would be interesting to see these turn out. Here are todays photos ( I apologise for the photos as I wanted to do this quickly so as not to upset Swift ) from youngest to oldest.... Baby one Baby two Baby three Baby four Baby five
May 25, 200619 yr AWWW ! ! ! If they are both spangles, you might get DFS wouldnt you?!?!?!?!? Maybe that explains the white, but they would be yellow, since the green DFS gene turns them yellow, a blue spangle series DFS would/will be white when bred to another spangle Kirby
May 26, 200619 yr Yeah they would be white, because they have a blue father and perhaps a heterozygous mother
May 26, 200619 yr Author Todays look into the nest shows, two babies with yellow wings with pale brown tinges to the wings, One normal maybe, and the two smaller budgies...one is definitely yellow with dark eyes and maybe the youngest will be the same as that.
