Gusse WHat every one my budgie layyed its first egg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;) I hear the female doesnt lay on the eggs till the seond one comes out is that true? THanks for all of the info you guys can give me. One more questuon is that after 10 days the egg was layed and you hold it up to a light and there is vains runing through it it means its fertile right? yes or no? IM so EXCITED. Also my last question is doea a clutch usually have between 3 to 5 eggs , True or False? CAnt w8 till 18 to 21 days then the eggs will hatch!!!! :):D:):D;);););):D :

not a breeder here but I can help you with a couple question

Budgie lay eggs every other day so that is when you can except the next egg

Candling I believe should be done by an experience breeder and then sometimes they don't even get it right. Daz an experience breeder on the boards, candled an egg thought it was not fertile and it was. So if you want to candle them okay, but don't assume that if you don't see anything that they are not good eggs. Leave them and the hen will discard them most of them time, they know. The anwer to your question is yes you can candle and see veins sometimes.

Clutches can have more then 5 eggs from what I am reading here on the boards some up to 8. But I would assume that is the average.

okay thanks for all of the info! :)

:nest: Sorry budgieguy, don't mean to give you a lecture but you are REALLY putting the cart before the horse. You should have researched and found out all you could about budgies, breeding, expected outcomes and potential problems BEFORE you started breeding. May I suggest you do a crash course on budgie breeding and read all you can as soon as you can as you seem quite in the thick of things and I am sure you want the best for the parents and the little budgies to be. :(

yes i did resaearch i have seven books i almost know everything i was just getting some peoples opiion. :( NO hard feeling eh?

Yeah, i haven't really found a book on budgies that tells you whether the female is "pregnant" or to put shavings in the box.

Asking people is the best way, because you can get personalised answers

everytime i put anything in the boxes, she just throws it out. i gave up!

any my hen is with 3 eggs, and yet to sit on them!

You should put shavings in the nest box and that way the hen can choose whether she wants them or not

  • 2 weeks later...

My hen has two nest boxes in the breeding cage. I filled both up with shavings, and one was emptied pretty much. She laid an egg in it, but discareded it, and went to other nest box filled with shavings to lay new egg(s). Her 2nd one was here today, and she liked having lots of shavings to help insulate the eggs, and its comfyer for her *i think*

Kirby ;)

 since i cant get my hands on wood shavings and the box was getting grubby, i decided to shread up some absorbent paper towels, they worked a treat and absorbed really great.. Just make sure they are changed frequently ;)
