:glare: My lavender coloured hen (she has the most beautiful purple cheek spots too) has decided to try and hook up with my huge Cobalt Blue male.. If they are succesful, what will the outcome for the chicks be?

Cheers

Una

Actually she would be a violet yes - correct term :glare: You would get I believe 50% violets and 50% cobalts

Look forward to seeing the babies

meaning?? explain please :P

I know violets carry 2 dark and cobalts 1 is that what you mean or something different?

Violets don't carry a dark factor gene they carry a violet gene :P

Mauve & Olive carries a double factor dark factor.

Colbalt & Dark Green carries a single factor dark factor

Sky Blue & Light Green carries no dark factor.

:)

okay cool that makes total sense...

so Daz what will she get then?

and is there a double factor Violet what does that mean?

:( hmmm i hope you do realize all this talk doesn't mean a whole heap to me :D...

So Daz since you seem clued up, what will i possibly most likely end up with?

If she's lavander colour it sounds like she'd be dilute or cinnamon....what colour are her wing markings?

:hap: I just went and took a few photos of her for you Bea.. the pictures don't do her colour any justice though, they make her look blue (Laughing out loud).. although you can sorta see her wings..

In this picture you can sorta see her purple cheek spots :hap:

Here she is sitting with the love of her life, the photos don't do his colour any justice either.

Wing shots.. She has a really clear patch between her shoulder blades too which is really pretty, i'm not sure if you can tell from the photos but her wings are a beautiful pale brown/grey colour.

Hope these helped (Laughing out loud)

Una

She's a cinnamon violet. :hap: I think if you breed them you'd get normal cobalts and skyblues. If dad's split to cinnamon then you'd get cinnamons as well. Now, let's wait for someone to correct me.

Well Una I agree camera are horrible on Violet, Merlin is a violet and he just turns out blue all the time. What I did is put him literally in the sunshine and took pictures and it finally did him justice on his coloration. And they said here on this site he was a violet. Because in my siggy he looks like a blue like your babies above. In fact he looks very similar to the male you have.

Violets don't carry a dark factor gene they carry a violet gene

As far as I know, there are 3 kinds of what are referred to as visual violets. Double factor violet sky blue (2 violet factors/0 dark factors), single factor violet cobalts (1violet factor/1 dark factor) , and double factor violet cobalts (2 violet factors/1 dark factor).. To get double factor violets both parents would need to have at least one violet gene.. and both pass it to their offspring. Double factor violets supposedly have the strongest violet coloration. Greens and mauves can also have violet factors and a sky blue can have one violet factor.

I wouldn't have said violet for Una's hen.. I think she looks like a cinnamon cobalt in the picture (but I know that sometimes pictures don't really show color realistically).. So.. if she is a cinnamon double factor violet sky blue (and he is a cobalt) You could get 50% single factor violet sky blues and 50% single factor violet cobalts.. All males would be split for cinnamon.

Or.. if she is cinnamon single factor violet cobalt (and he is cobalt), you could get 25% mauves, 50% cobalts, and 25% sky blue.. there would be a 50/50 chance of any of those also having a single violet factor. (12.5% sf violet mauves, 12.5% mauves, 25% sf violet cobalts, 25% cobalts, 12.5% sf violet sky blues, 12.5% sky blues) and the males would all be split for cinnamon.

Cinnamon Double factor violet cobalt hen x cobalt would be 25% sf violet mauve, 50% sf violet cobalt, and 25% sf violet skyblue. All males would be split for cinnamon.

If she's not violet.. cinnamon cobalt henx cobalt would be 25% mauve, 50% cobalt, 25% sky blue.. males split for cinnamon
