okay, heres my stab...(Laughing out loud)

The babe on the left (that's my left (Laughing out loud)) is a recessive pied, I cannot see the cheek patches very well from the pics so I cannot see if they are blue or grey. They look to be more grey but I am not sure. If they are grey, you have a grey babe. If they are blue, you have a mauve babe. As far as the sex, again, could have a better picture of the cere and pieds are harder to sex as it is, but I would say female.

The other would be a yellow face type II?? That is my guess and I would say that it was a male.

Again, If I am wrong here please let someone like Nerwen or Daz correct me and the mods can even erase this if they want! (Laughing out loud)

im with you on that

ive looked at the piccys and i cant tell what colour the cheeck patches are

ill take more in the morning and repost here

again thanks jason

You have a dominant pied, he has the band around his belly (recessives look like my Pretty in my siggy). http://www.geocities.com/budgie-place/p_colors.html scroll 1/2 down and you will see the dominant pied on your right. Correct if he has grey cheeks patches he is grey, blue then he is mauve but I am going with grey.

Your other one I agree with the Type 2 Yellowface

Gorgeous birds...and I am always eager to be corrected if wrong :(.

I was thinking dominant pied for the grey but as there are no full photos to see more, I cannot confirm that opinion till I see a back shot. As I have a recessive pied baby ( Cheetas now ) that from the front would look dominant pied but from the back show it as a recessive pied for sure.

Thanks lovey for correcting me about the pieds...I get confused because my dominent male only has a patch of color on his tummy and the big spot on the back of his head...

Karen check out the mutation page there are different types of pied he is a dominant pied for sure. :(

"Dominant pied budgies usually have a distinct pattern. There is always a band of clear body feathers across the lower-mid belly. This band can be very small to very large, encompassing almost the entire belly area. This band can also sometimes be irregular, not forming a complete band across the belly. There is also a band of clear feathers across the bottom of the wings. This band can be restricted to the very lower wing feathers or cover almost the entire wing area. "

same here with colours.. dominant pied grey, and yellowface II blue.

They are both gorgeous!!

I don't know if you noticed, but in the second picture, the YF2 looks like it has some white around its legs and bum. Just thought I'd point that out.

I thank you all for the help in identifying the little uns

but i have a question about the green/blue, the top half of the body is green blue and the bottom half is blue with no green its easier to see in the first piccy, she also has white feathers around her bum and feet

i thank you again

jason

PS the grey has had to go to the vets today,

He/She has a respetatory infection and needs baytril which she now has and she is recouping in the spare bedroom in the hospital cage, he/she looked so poorly today, where as yesterday she was the more active of the 2 in the quaranteen cage, i hope she gets over the infection,

My yellowface (although she is type 1) has quite a lot of white fluffy feathers around her vent area that you can see even when she's not puffed up. I don't think it's particularly significant to the mutation, though. Correct me if I'm wrong anybody.

Also, the greeny colour at the top changing into blue at the bottom is what makes her a type II. The yellow bleeds into the blue base colour and makes it look green.

I hope your little grey is feeling better soon. Do you have a heat lamp for her?

Edited by Janette

The grey is male and the yellow face is female.

In babies the cere is pink/purple in males and blue/white in females.

Yes , but the white on her bum, actually goes on her legs. She has white contour feathers there, not just down feathers.

An update on Stripes(my little lads name for him) he has been inder a heat lamp and seems to be getting better this morning, had a rough day yesturday, trying to keep him upright, in the end had to make a nest of tissue paper and place him into the nest, he seemed to like it and put his head under his wing and went off to sleep. when i woke up this morning there he was sitting on his perch singing out to his mates(who are downstairs), i also had to phone the vets to find out if i could orally give the baytril or put it into the water as he said, he said that i could use the syringe provided to dilute the baytril in the water and help stripes drink that way, to make sure he is getting the antibiotics, he doesnt seem to like it but i know if i do it today he hopefully will have the strength to do it tomorrow

i will keep you all upto date as and when there are improvements

thanks all

jason

also thank you all for telling me hes a he

and shes a she

he has picked up alot this afternoon, he has started to eat and doesnt mind drinking off the syringe so much, its a nice step forward

You can't always tell from the wings whether the bird is dominant or recessive...my vote is dominant pied for the grey,
