  1. I have spent probably a weeks worth of hours on that site looking at all the mutations
  2. Do a sprout test. Get a container and some cotton balls or something and wet it all then sprinkle in some seeds and keep it all wet. If most of the seeds sprout then you're all good. Now keep in mind that seed is not at all adequate as a full diet. They need budgie pellets too (I use vetafarm) and lots of fruits and vegge. Grass is often appreciated too.
  3. Beautiful birds! I only keep pet type budgies, but a nice show budgie is a grand sight. Good luck!
  4. I had a similar pair to the second picture. I still have the cock bird, Aslan, but the hen, Narnia, died on Halloween last year. Narnia was a gorgeous dilute violet cinnamon opaline.
  5. His cere hasn't got any blue on it even at this age while all my other males that have dark factors have 'coloured up' I suppose you could say. The iris ring does look the same as my babies that did eventually go white, but I'll keep an eye on it. If his cere goes blue or his eyes stay dark what would that mean?
  6. No. He's five months old and not yet had his first moult. You can see he still has forehead banding if you look at him in person but it's very faint unlike his sister Asha. His iris currently is a normal grey color. As are most of my babies. Some are going white now as the weeks go by of course. Aurora is looking shocking at the moment as she's moulting.
  7. My new boy. Lucky number 10 and the final one of my flock.
  8. Which pair of yours have produced the most beautiful babies in your opinion?
  9. I think you'll find the reason no one has replied to this is because you're breeding birds that are under a year old. That is horribly bad for their health. Your two year old is the only one I think you should be breeding. Once the chicks of your ten month olds have fledged, separate the adults so they don't breed again for at least six months. Males and females in different cages. Making eggs and raising chicks while they're still growing is cruel to the birds as it robs nutrients from the parents.
  10. Laura's Birds replied to witherd1's topic in Aviaries
    Absolutely fantastic!
  11. Aurora. Named because she's a colorful flurry of light. Hugo is a boss. Hugo Boss. No other name fit.
  12. Alaric and Amara are from the same breeder and are related (cousins). Aegon and Asha are siblings. I plan to put Aegon with Amara to keep those two from mating with relatives. I also want to put Hugo and Aurora just as a personal preference. I'm not fussed with the rest. They can do as they please.
  13. Aslan and Hugo were born in May last year. The rest are from the beginning to middle of September. I won't be putting next boxes in until September at least.
  14. So in the next twelve months (unless something intervenes) I plan to move from Sydney to Tasmania. I have a dog, two cockatiels and nine budgies at present. I've looked at the ferry from Melbourne and it caters to dogs with transport cages so that's great but I don't know about the transport for the birds. Taking them with me for the drive feels right as I'm right there, but if flying would be not only faster but less stress I could arrange to have them brought across that way I think. Just not sure what to do. Does anyone have any experience?
  15. Gorgeous babies! All still with you or in new homes?
  16. I have a young hen who is psychotic in my opinion. If it can be done, it will be. If it can't, it will be attempted and often will be. This bird will squeeze herself through small ring toys (successfully), attempt to get INSIDE the food silo (unsuccessfully), she purposefully and repeatedly lands on the other birds. Essentially, she would be first off the island if my flock were on survivor. Anyone else have a budgie like this who simply MUST be a pest?
  17. These are my current babies. Any tips on who would make the best matches? .
  18. Well I have four cocks and five hens. I was going to put my preferred pairs in breeding cabinets which would leave two cocks and whichever hens they chose in the aviary to colony breed. Not sure if two pairs and a spare are really a colony though lol
  19. I'm planning on doing a bit of both. There's two pairs that I want to set myself and I was thinking I'll put them in a breeding cabinet but then the rest of the birds I have no preference and there's no foreseeable problems with any combination they could make so I thought just leave them all together to pair up and breed. They live in a 2ft x 3ft x 4.5f5 indoor aviary cage and I was going to put nest boxes along the rear wall.
  20. Do you guys favor pairing up your birds or just letting them do their own thing? I can't decide on what to do.
  21. Such cute birds!
  22. Hi everyone! My name is Laura, I joined the boards a few weeks back but figure I should introduce myself. I'm from Sydney, I have nine budgies (and two cockatiels) that I'm thinking about breeding towards the end of this year. Just researching at the moment as my flock is quite young, so hopefully I can learn a lot
