Hey guys, If you've seen my previous post, i made a new pairing in my breeding cage about a week ago.. The male was previously paired to another female but i split him up to go with a new female. However the breeding cage is in the aviary where his old mate was and I have seen them regurgitating food to eachother through the breeding cage wire front. He doesnt really show any signs of affection towards the female in the breeding cage but they still seem to both go in the breeding box for short periods (couple of minutes) during the day. I know i should probably just be patient but i feel that I wont get any positive results if he is still 'interacting' with his previous mate. Should i take the breeding cage out of the aviary so he can breed with the female or will they get over it and settle down in the next couple of weeks? The pair that I am trying to breed are both over a year old. There is another male in the aviary with the female and he trys to peck her away when she's near the male in the breeding cage but is unsuccessful. Some answers would be very helpful.

Hellooo, I have just paired up a pair in my new breeding cage and before you say it, yes i have done my research... over 6 months of it Anyway, i paired them up two days ago (yellow lacewing hen with normal green cock) and i was just wondering how long will it be until they start to bond and mate? The male was previously bonded with another partner but i separated him to go with the lacewing, :/ he seems a bit sad and misses her because he tries to find way to get out of the cage since it's in the aviary with the previous female. Could this affect how he bonds with the new female? I have read around that you can expect eggs 8-14 days after pairing? seems a bit quick to me but you never know! Hi all, Im wondering if my budgies are english in the pictures below and if there vents need trimming for the breeding season? I have heard about many people doing it but have never tried it before... is it worth it? Would love to hear the success rates between the two (dont know if these images will work) Thanks, Will

I have got 2 males and one female in my smallish aviary.. 2m x 2m x 1.9. All was well and i introduced breeding boxes... the males were alright and one was really interested in her and the other one not as much but still quite interested, she laid four fertile eggs and while she was incubating the males were constantly feeding her (both of them) and trying to get her attention. After a few days of incubation she suddenly didnt want anything to do with the eggs so she left them. I dont really know if its related to the ratio of males to female but just this week she has laid three eggs and incubated for a few days and come off again. It could be a lot of possibilities but thats just my experience with 2 males and 1 female. I am going to give the female a few months rest now and try a breeding cage with just a pair in it, inside my aviary. Hope it works!

Hi everyone! New to this forum... oh and kinda new to breeding. Yes ive done my research and have been trying to breed for a few months now, my budgies first clutch, the eggs were fertile and she layed about 4 of them, she was two days into the incubation process and she just ignored them? So i thought classic first mum problems (as i had read about them everywhere) so i put the nestboxes back up a few weeks later. All is well and i think she has layed about 4 eggs, (i dont know as i try to go in there as little time as possible) she is about half a week into the incubation process and i noticed that she isnt sitting on the eggs tonight, just in her favourite position in the aviary which is about a 2 metre flight from the nest box... i dont know if she has been startled by one of our cars because the headlights shine on the aviary probably twice a night as the aviary is next to the driveway. The aviary is only quite small, 2m x 2m x 2.5. There are two males and one female and they both feed her and everything like that so i dont know who the father is. Anyway to the question, if she isnt sitting on the eggs tonight for some reason but returns to them at light in the morning will they be alright? Will they still hatch? The temp at the moment is getting down to about 15 degrees celsius (59 farenheit) and gets to a max temp during the day of 25 degrees celsius (77 farenheit). any help would be appreciated, im a first time breeder and just hoping, not expecting much and trying to learn about these birds.
