  1. I should try the plastic and spray ideas. Newton is vicious and she bites sooo hard. But she's so cute I just can't be mad at her.
  2. 8/10 yay
  3. Awesome! This is so useful. I'm definitely keeping this aside for future use.
  4. I've used Hagen before, I'm not a nutritional expert, but it seemed fine. But I didn't just feed them the Hagen food, I offered veggies, egg mashes etc etc.
  5. thank you! It mentions to avoid dyes in the colorful pellets. I've tried a few different pellets before, the zupreem natural, harisson's, another brand I can't remember and they were all very much rejected. I've now offered Zupreem, canary sized pellets and they're colorful. Most of my birds seem to love them, one of my birds is more picky than the rest though. What can be the problems associated with the dyes?
  6. HA oh my goodness! In the third picture, that bird does not look impressed. hehehe that's hilarious!
  7. Is Hagen brand available in your area? There are a few other brands, check the internet. You could also buy online.
  8. hmmm I think I would eat it all before they got a chance to have a bite! hehe. I have yet to offer any to my budgies, they're pretty picky with veggies. They love lettuce of any kind though. My hamster loves ears of corn hehe. It's fine for them, in moderation of course!
  9. Is there a good method for converting your birds to pellets? So far 3 of my 4 budgies have started to nibble, the fourth just kind of throws them in my direction. Pretty pissed. I put a small cup of seed for her, she gobbles that up and ignores the pellets. I'd love to know of any methods that have worked, or if there is a step by step guide on a website somewhere, I need structure, it works best for me. thanks!
  10. Yeah it's just that people will see the name and associate something else with them. It's great info for sure though. I just thought people should know that they are against the keeping of exotic pets.
  11. Very nice pictures. I especially like the first 3
  12. I don't know if you know but the API is pretty much against birds in captivity and against people who have pet birds. Just thought I'd throw that out there.
  13. Hey everyone! I haven't dropped by lately because of my overload of work for school. But hopefully I can pop by from time to time. Anyways, I recently went to a bird convention in Montreal, Canada. There was an exposition that spoke of creating natural habitats for your birds in their cages. I only briefly passed by the exhibit, but the cages were so beautiful. I was a little wary though, because some of the plants/most of them were fake. I was wondering if they could be toxic to the birdies? I was also wondering if anyone here has a natural-type of set up. I'd love to give it a go, but I'm not sure where to start. Also at the convention I saw the biggest budgie I have ever seen in my life. He was HUGE. Anyways haha, hope someone can post a picture of some sort.
  14. the thing is, there's no fighting and no one else cares about the nestbox except for Newton and she just seems to go in so she can chew up wood. I don't think they get the point. haha
  15. I haven't been on here for a while, mainly because my four little munchkins have been doing quite well. So, I have 4 budgies. All are of age to breed. Though I think one of them is not in breeding condition. I put in the nestbox a few weeks ago. They didn't like it at first. They were scared etc. But now... Newton (my female) constantly pops in and out, it's been going on for a week (approx). She chews up the wood and seems to enjoy herself. I don't think she has a mate though.... so I'm wondering if she's going to lay eggs? Or if she's just liking the box as a little hangout? I'd really love to have little chicks, but I don't think my birdies get the idea of a nestbox. Is that possible? thanks!
  16. that made me cry so beautiful <3
  17. i am officially confused haha
  18. dominant pied has a pied spot on the back of the head no? I checked her just now and it doesn't look like she has a spot. unless i'm mistaken about what dominant pied is.
  19. thanks she's pretty feisty!
  20. There was a mineral block that came with the cage, but I'll be buying a new one along with a cuttlebone. Thanks for the tips!
  21. Well there's no name yet. But I'll try and take another picture without the flash to get answers on whether it's a male or female. The cage isn't round, maybe the picture makes it seem like it, but it's rectangular. Also the bar spacing is the same as all my other cages for my budgies, again maybe it's the pictures and the angle I took them at.
  22. thanks for the tip! I noticed that too, hopefully I can get it rubbed off.
  23. Today my family and I stopped by the local SPCA to look at the dogs for adoption (were considering adopting a streetdog, and we will be returning there to see it again). The first thing I saw were the birds. There was a beautiful Cockatiel that my dad really liked. And there were 2 doves and a little green colored budgie. And I ended up taking it home, along with its cage. I cleaned everything up because it was messy and I misted him because I doubt he had ever had a bath in his life. I'm not sure if it's a male or female. I think it's just a normal green color, but I'm pretty bad with all that so I could be wrong. His beak is overgrown, so I'll have to go to the vet for that, same goes for his nails. I hope he likes his new home. I'm so incredibly happy to have saved him and hopefully I can take others in, in the future.
