  1. Thank you for your replies. I am more worried about the cocks fighting. I only have one hen and 5 cocks. Will the cocks fight over her? I already have more birds than my husband would like. Of the 5 boys I have, one has french moult and keeps away from all the "action" and another is quite an old bird and just seems to sit twiddling bits of string toy all day and dodges any of the youngters when they come near him. The hen does seem to have paired up with one cock in particular and is soliciting food from him. There is one other that seems a bit interested.
  2. Yes the aviary is indoors. There isn't mush sun around in the UK most of the time but when there is The doors will be open to let in the heat and whatever sun can bounce in.I supliment them with vitamin D3 in their seed so they don't suffer any deficiencies. Thanks for that, I have an aviary then.
  3. No, it's a pearly conure.
  4. This is my Conure, Merlin, helping himself to the drips of apple juice at the bottom of the glass. Oh and my daughter trying to dodge the camera.
  5. Thank you for your help. I do have a walk in aviary or is it a flight, not realyl sure. I will have to handle them soon. I know how to handle birds I have 3 parrots and have had birds for many years. I just worry about these after on dropped dead of fright a week after we got them. Here's my Aviary/flight
  6. Thank you for your help. I've watched a youtube video of using a crop needle. I think I'll get my vet to show me how to do it before I try.
  7. Is that a drop on the back of the neck of each bird? Is there one I can put in their food or water so I don't have to catch them. They aren't used to me yet. I would like to worm them because they were all in an outdoor aviary and just want to be sure they are all clear.
  8. All my budgies were from outdoor aviaries so I thought I should worm them. But how do I worm them when they are not yet handleable? I have seen that they use of Ivemectin is recomended but it's a spot on one. I also read someones canary died because of the toxicity of the drops. i worm my tortoises with panacur, would I be able to use that for my birds too?
  9. Thank you for your help. I got 4 of the birds from someone who didn't keep them very well. They were in an old hamster cage with only 1 perch. One has french moult and one is quite old. The other 2 that we called the tweedle brothers were normal green types and quite young. It was one of these that died. He just flew manicaly around and fell to the floor, he was dead when I picked him up. I can't imagine what happened to them to make him so scared. I always take them something in when I go in, millet, corn cobs, mange tout etc, danelion etc. When you say leave the dirt on the grass roots, what reason is there for this? Wont they get parasites from it? I have put a stool in the aviary for me to sit on and for them to have a bowl of water to bathe in.
  10. Will my budgies always freak out when I enter the aviary? I've had them for a month and whenever I go in they all fly to one end as far away from me as possible. I try not to go in there too much as a week after I got them one got into the safty porch area with me and just pannicked and dropped dead at my feet. I am worried this might happen again so I try not to go in too much. Also should I be able to handle the birds? I haven't tried to hold them as again I am worried they might die of fright like little tweedle did.
  11. I was sold a hen with my 5 cocks. They are in an indoor flight. Will there be problems during breeding season? I didn't want to breed but the hen is very friendly with a couple of the cocks. Begging for food from them and chassing them around. They are only 5 months old so far too young to breed. I would rather remove the female than risk any problems with fighting etc before it's too late.

If you could have a look at my thread in the mutations section and tell me what would be the best cock to breed with her I might just take the plunge, but don't tell my husband Thanks for the welcome.
  13. This is Basil, he is one of 2 that are very similar, could you tell me what he is please? And this is my hen. I think she is a cinnamen. From the back, you can see the brown feathers, her tail looks blue in this one but it is more brown in real life. From the front. I have adjusted this picture to make her look more like her true colour. But it made the males colour is totally wrong. This is both of them together. The male colour is quite true in this one. The other male that is similar is further along the branch. Underneath you can see my french molt and my normal green. This is my older bird, my son calls him the zombie bird because of his eyes. Lastly my cage boy Echo.

I'm new here but have had budgies all my life. I currently have 7, 6 in an idoor aviary and 1 caged. I have had the aviary since September and origionaly wanted all males. Somehow a female was sold to me. I didn't intend to breed but am now considering it.
