Good morning, I'm Jen. I recently became the owner/carer of two female budgies as my best friend's breeding pair have been producing prolifically and space was at a premium over there. I have never owned birds before and hope I'm doing at least some things right. The girls' names are Ally (she's all white, so my friend's kids called her Al for albino) and Blaise (she's mostly blue). I have a large garage with a window up one end so the girls live in there, out of the wind and weather and with a view. During the day when I'm home I put their cage outside in the fresh air and the winter sun which they seem to love. I believe they are about a year old and they seem to bicker a lot, unfortunately. They have toys and a mirror each, shell grit, good quality seed, treats and veggies to eat and two different water containers since they seem to want to bathe in one. They have a swing which Ally has pretty much commandeered, although Blaise is the dominant bird. I'm not used to handling them and am nervous about it so I haven't tried. Any advice experienced budgie owners have would be greatly appreciated, I really want to give these girls a happy life. Oh, the reason they live in the garage is because I have two cats, who are inside cats so I can't bring the birds inside. My cats absolutely cannot get near the birds but find them extremely interesting to watch when they are outside in their cage. Anyway, hello from Ally and Blaise and I!
