Hello Everyone Um, I don't keep budgies or any bird, but my mum does. The reason I subscribed was I was looking up another topic over the net, and came across your site, and read about a lady having trouble with snakes. The lady was asking about a holistic approach to keeping snakes out of her yard, and I just really wanted to help her. I have 'had' to do a considerable research into snake repellers due to being inundated with over 73 Eastern Brown, Taipan, and four Black Whip Snakes in mine and my mums yard in 16months. My mum lives beside me, and her beautiful Labrador woke up at the wrong time when an Eastern Brown was slithering under her bed, and as she stretched the damb snake bit her on the nose, and even after getting her to a vet within half an hour, she died a horrid death. My cat Felix was bitten by a taipan (my fault) but thankfully he survived. Anyway back to the original reason for my post. For a holistic approach to rid your yard of snakes... there is a product that I have used that is VERY good. It's called shoo Snake. It is very expensive, and you need to re-apply it after rain, but it does prevent snakes entering your yard if you spray it around the perimetre. Alternatively, you could crush cloves and sprinkle around your yard, or grow lemongrass. I haven't used the lemongrass as yet, but I have ordered a heap of organic lemongrass and intend on tying it. I haven't used the cloves for quite a while, becaue since Cyclone Yasi, I lost my home, and am living in my shed, and my little sister died in my arms until the Paramedics revived her (God Bless them), so snakes have been more afraid of me because of my mood hmhm. I am just about to purchase the sonar snake repellers, and yes they are expensive, but the cost of a vet to treat a snake bite actually costs more than the price of the repellers. Aw another thing you can use for a quick fix is Napthalene. It isn't quite as enviromentally friendly as the other that I have mentioned, but if you are doing any yard work, and don't get a chance to pick-up the cuttings etc until the next day, just sprinkle a little Napthalene over the rubbish so you are safe to pick it up the next day without having to worry about being bitten.
