One Winged Budgie - We've Called Him Nemo
My friend took Nemo to the vet and she said she thinks it's wing was bitten off when it was a day or 2 old. I disagree. Firstly, surely it would have bled to death if that was the case. Second, that would explain why it's missing the lower wing joints, but it doesn't explain why his shoulder is missing too. I'm sticking with a deformity, especially when you look at this picture... what do you guys think? Kaz any ideas?

One Winged Budgie - We've Called Him Nemo
Thanks I was going to keep him for myself, but my friend was after another budgie so this worked out well, and I'll get to see him grow up We are planning a disabled birdy set up. It can't fly at all, even when jumping from the ground, one flap causes him to just spin and land on his side/upside down.

One Winged Budgie - We've Called Him Nemo
I went down to the nest to have a good look at the babies and this is what I found... The third baby in the nest was missing most of its right wing. There was no evidence of trauma, so it's just a birth deformity... So not sure what has happened, all other babies these parents have had have been fine. She/he's (I'm finding it hard to tell with this one) is going to a good friend's house and will be well looked after. I just thought it was worth showing everyone as it's quite interesting.

Wanted: Crested Budgies
Thanks Kaz, I am now regretting selling my crested baby last year! He was a stunner, looked like he had a hat on!

Wanted: Crested Budgies
I'm in Brisbane and I am after some crested budgies (preferably male) for no more than $30-40. I have one female whose crest is small (a few tufted head feathers) but she has given me one awesome male crested budgie. So anything will do! Thanks

Pearl - Father Of My Backflipping Budgie
Just thought I'd mention that Kami turned out to be a girl. Also... Pearl has developed his random yellow feather again. I suppose it make sense with his mother being a yellowface but in a bird with so much blue genes it's pretty awesome.

Ivermectin In Brisbane
Just a quickie - I have some ivermectin that is 8g/L that is used for guinea pig worming - is this a suitable concentration to use on birds?

Boy Or Girl?
Thanks Kaz! Yeah it was a combination of things that were making me wonder (nostril size too) but overall it _is_ purple. I don't know why I've had trouble telling lately, normally I get it right from 1-2 weeks old.

Boy Or Girl?
Parents are just as far as I can tell (not sure of their parent's genetics as these are birds I have bought; Dad: skyblue yellowface type 1 (the wings appear normal, though have a sheen that makes me think possibly split opaline...) Mum: dominant skyblue pied (crested). The colour I am seeing for the most part is purple, but its cere was a bit bulgy when it was a baby and in some light, I think there is quite a lot of white around the nostrils. These are the only other pics I have at the moment...

Bad Season For Egg Binding
Yeah - I was thinking the same thing - the timing did work out that it was 2-3 days after her last egg. Maybe it was a coincidence?

Bad Season For Egg Binding
Do you think I should feed the birds in the nest on small parrot mix (mixed with budgie) for the sunflower? Most of them have had access to the sunflower as I have a mixed aviary with neophemas/bourkes so I have both seed varieties available at all times?

Bad Season For Egg Binding
There are pics already in another thread Kaz, (http://forums.budgie...=1) it's the one built around the pool fence. I would be inclined to believe that this could be the issue, however the birds that have died have died within 2 weeks of being put in the nest boxes. Before this they had all the access to light and calcium (bells, grit and cuttlefish + occasional water supplements) that they could possibly want in the outdoor flight for at least 6 months since their last nest. I would be very surprised if something could happen that fast. Like I said, this is a weird occurrence, I have had this set up for many years and never had a problem. Just in case though I have bought some vit D3 from the pet store and given some to the birds. It can't hurt and at this point I'll try almost anything. The weird thing is that the birds have all died in the same cage (which is the one that, coincidentally gets the best light). I have disinfected it with pet store disinfectant and also vinegar between birds, just in case.

Bad Season For Egg Binding
They do get good sunlight in the mornings (and before I put them in the nests they have the whole outdoor flight to bask to their hearts content). It's been set up this way for 4 seasons now hence I'm confused. I might get some vitamin D supplement just in case, it's about the only medicine I don't have.

Bad Season For Egg Binding
Sad story - I have now lost 4 of my best breeding females this season (since January). I haven't done anything differently. They were all treated with coccivet in January because of the wet season, they have all had adequate grit, cuttlefish and calcium supplements in the water as well as fresh fruit/veggies (corn, carrot etc) and freshly picked grass seeds from my lawn. I lost one tonight, I went down to the aviary and knew she was in trouble (making noises as if in pain and sitting with her tail up) so we warmed her up in a box with a hot water bottle (she only died 10 mins ago). The others have all happened during the night when I couldn't have noticed (same with my bourke parrot ) Is anyone else having issues this season or am I just really unlucky? Coincidently, 3 of these birds have been paired with the same male (who has bred successfully before with no issues whatsoever) so I'm at a loss as to what's going on. (the nest boxes/cages are in the aviary so I don't want to disturb all the birds again tonight). Daddy bird seems to be in the nest box, but now I'm going to lose all 5 (3 of which are definitely fertile) eggs as I have no incubator and all other pairs have just finished hatching their chicks. Do you think it's worth the risk putting them with a female that hasn't laid (and is too old to do so, but she likes checking out nest boxes all the same)...

Enlarged Solid Crop
i would be cheaking for air sack mite or treating for canker Thanks GB - don't want to sound daft here but what exactly is canker? The birds don't look sick, just like they have extraordinarily full crops and they feel kind of sandy from the outside. I don't think it is air sac mite from what I've read about the symptoms.

Enlarged Solid Crop
In the last week I have noticed that several of my budgies have a large, fairly hard, protruding crop that makes it look like they are top heavy. In 9 years of breeding budgies I have never come across this before. None of these birds are laying/in nest boxes. Is it some kind of crop infection/worms/yeast? What should I do? Thanks heaps.

Cheap And Decent Bird Seed
Here you go Thanks guys. http://www.alloragrain.com.au/index.php/our-locations/springwood-outlet-location... it cost me ~$64 total for 20kg bag of hulled oats, small parrot and budgie seed nearly $1/kg!!! Else, the same seed is sold at Pet Cafe for $28/bag. Still not complaining about that price though
