What's On The Bottom Of Your Cage?
Hello all, i used to use newspaper on the bottom of the cages w/o the grate cause I didnt like them walking on the wire but, they would shred the newspaper to tiny bits. Then after I got birds again, i thought the newspaper wasnt all that safe to them with the ink on them and all. I thought it would be toxic. so, i went with Kaytee's Wood Pellet Bedding that they sell at my local PetSmart store. When I first started using it, it was great since I had a medium sized cage for two but as I got more parakeets I went with a bigger and wider cage meaning more wooden pellets. I change their bedding every week to a week and a half and it's starting to go by quick with two cages now. I'm thinking of switching back to newspaper but i dont know yet. :| The wooden pellets smell fresher. And if water or a bowl accidentally touches the floor (which is rare since I got those water feeder tubes) the pellets absorb all the water. still don't know if that's good or bad but kinda cool.

Unsafe Foods
how about plain frozen vegetables like corn, peas and green beans?

My Parakeets
Never add a nestbox unless you are absolutely sure they are OVER 12 months and in breeding condition as well and not moulting. Oh, okay. I'll keep that in mind. Thanks.

My Parakeets
lol, that's funny. Some of mine like hurling things around too. They do the weirdest things. They're all cute. This picture was from a little while back and I don't have the young birds in that cage anymore. The nest basket is gone too since they tore it apart themselves. I only have the green older birds in there. I installed a nest box for them but the female has only gone inside to mess around, i think. Nothing yet. I have an updated picture of the cage where my young ones are but I don't have access to it right now. But thanks for the suggestion. How old do your budgies have to be before considering installing a nest box? Considering they're all about a month old.

My Parakeets
These are my first I my first couple I have bought with my own money, late last year. I bought these at the pet store after I remembered my first flock of birds I had years ago. Shredder, on the left. Shredette on the right. I named them cause they always like to nibble on things, more than the ones I have now. Shredder and Shredette resting outside their first cage. Later on I got them something bigger and wider. These are the second I couple I got. I haven't named them yet. But the one closer to the camera is a male, and the one in the back is a female. She's the youngest one I got. During this time she had her feathers clipped and couldn't fly away far so the only thing she could do is to give in and rest. I got this cage later on, and put them together but they wouldn't get along and until this day they still don't. I seperated the greens from the blues. My latest additions are the two yellow ones. I still havent named them. They were getting to know the blue ones outside the cage one day. I moved these four together in a new cage (not pictured) i got with them.

Hello Everyone?!
Glad I found a place like this were I can find a lot of helpful information. I see that there's a lot going on. Good tips already. Well, I'm a fan of budgies and I've owned some for a long time until I gave them away because I knew too little about them. Now that I'm older I decided to buy some again. I'm now owner of 6 and I love them all. They're real funny at times. Anyway, I'm glad I found a place to learn new things from.
