The Rest Of My Flock
These guys have laid a second clutch but the eggs are infertile (I think). Flubber can't actually fly which might have something to do with it - was in a cage when younger and wasn't allowed out! Snow is an Albino male. He mated with Coco last year but their eggs were infertile - so perhaps it could be him? This is Fred and Martha. They have been banned from the Aviary twice as he was annoying the 3 Dad's so much and I put him in a cage with Martha for 3 weeks and they paired up! They haven't got into a nestbox yet, but that doesn't matter now! This is Olive and Max. They may have been going to pair up but I caught Olive in Ma and Tawa's nestbox so she is inside too. Max is a yellowhead blue. Guess Olive is something similar. And the last pair of my 16 adults is Snowflake, the other white double factor X female and Bluey a Cobalt normal. He was attacked by a rat and lost one leg but that hasn't stopped him - not sure if he is up to mating or not though! I also have Timmy and Sarah the Chinese Quails but no photos sorted yet. They laid their first clutch and 2 days before hatching we had a thunderstorm and Sarah stopped sitting. Clutch 2 they hatched 6 chicks from 8 eggs and the next day found a 7th chick - not what she normally does. Then to get even further off her routine, when the chicks were 3 weeks old I found 5 eggs and she laid a total of 9. Last week I found all but 3 eggs away from where she was sitting and by the end of the next day she was back on 7 eggs again!?!? I have to move her chicks who were 5 weeks old yesterday from the hutch as clutch 3 is due to hatch next week. Last year my last clutch all died but a bird club friend reckons dad Timmy was killing them, so keeping my eye on him this year.

My Flock And Babies
Any help on their genetics would be great as well please? This is Coco and Charlie This is their first clutch - 2 chicks from 4 eggs Joe and Creme (a Creamino?) born first week of October Coco and Charlie got keen and started laying when Joe and Creme were 4 weeks old! She laid 3 eggs, threw one out and then 10 days later started laying again. Needless to say the first chick hatched and she laid the 7th and 8th eggs eitherside. The 2nd egg got dark but hasn't hatched so guess chick has died in egg. The next lot of eggs are due to start hatching next week. This is Ma and Tawa - (Maori colours!) Ma is a white - double factor X ??? and Tawa is a Violet. Unfortunately they are the next door neighbours to my FM clutch but don't see any problems with the chicks? They hatched 4 chicks from 5 eggs. Ma and Tawa's chicks - eldest was 4 weeks old yesterday. I see 2 skys, a cobalt and a violet? Then there is Cobo and Sky (with another female white double factor x ??) - their youngest chick has the reggae feather do. They were 5 chicks from 6 eggs. These are the youngest lot of chicks and the 1st chick will be four weeks old tomorrow. The middle 3 chicks as they all sit on each other! Then the reggae 5th chick

Is This French Moult Please?
Oh blow! That would be right - they were the first nestbox I handled every time, then the other two nestboxes. I will add the photos of the others but I think the last nestbox may have the youngest chick with FM as it has a reggae feather happening! Thanks for your help.

Is This French Moult Please?
Umm, no the youngest 3 of the 15 aviary chicks are only turning 3 weeks old today and this weekend. They are from the other 2 nesting boxes next to the french moult nestbox. I have only had 3 of the 15 fledge so far so still 12 to fledge. Thanks for all your advice Kaz.

Is This French Moult Please?
Thanks for the confirmation (I guess). Absolutely heartbroken. So I have a breeding pair Coco and Charlie in the house, their first two chicks are in a cage next to Cinnamon and Marvin's first three to fledge (french moult) are they contaminated too. Coco and Charlie with their next clutch are at the other end of the house - are they okay? Do I take the nesting boxes out that are empty - I have 6 - Box 1, 2 and 3 have chicks 5 weeks old and younger (one of them the french moult chicks). Box 4 and 6 are empty but box 5 has a pair nesting but this is their second clutch and they are infertile again I think. There are 2 male quails in the bottom of the aviary - are they contaiminated too? So do I remove some nesting boxes or wait the next until the younges has fledged (Sunday 12 December the youngest will be 5 weeks). Do I have to sterilise the aviary and nesting boxes? I read somewhere to throw out the french moult nest box or do I have to throw them all out? I also have a rabbit hutch behind the enclosed bit of the aviary with Chinese Quails and chicks and eggs - will they be contaminated too or okay. Some feathers from the aviary are going on the hutch. What else do I need to do?

Is This French Moult Please?
I was so excited, this is my first breeding year, my second clutch to start hatching and as they progressed I had an Albino and a Lutino - cool! But the Albino fledged early - think she was the 2nd or 3rd chick but now think 2nd. She wasn't feeding and I had to hand feed for a day and then she started to feed herself. 3 days later Chick #1 fledged and had funny feathers hanging from the wings. Today Chick #3 fledged and has no tail feathers. Chick #4 and Chick #5 (Lutino) seem to have different feather problems again, the Lutino not having enough wing feathers, Chick #6 seems to be okay. The parents don't seem to have any problems with their but I'm no expert so there could be. This is the first fledged chick - my poor Albino: This is Chick #1 (sleeping with the breeze waking him/her!) This is Chick #3 who fledged today (looking like one of my Chinese Quails!) These are the last of the 6 chicks from 7 eggs - Chick #7 (by my thumb) looks normal to me?

Kia Ora From Nz!
Hello, I am new to this forum and live in the North Island in Kapiti. I currently have 16 budgies and 18 chicks and 10 eggs; 8 cockatiels and 10 eggs and 4 Chinese Quails and 7 chicks and 9 eggs. I bought budgies last year but no-one bred except for the Chinese Quails. This year they have gone for it and giving me lots of unique problems. I have 5 pairs nesting in an outdoor aviary in nesting boxes, 1 pair I had to put in a cage inside as she was boss of the roost and wouldn't let anyone into a nestbox. She hatched 2 chicks from 4 eggs (one I am hoping is a cremino but more on another post!) After 4 weeks she started laying again and laid 3 eggs, threw 1 out and 10 days later continued laying until she now has 7 eggs & 1 chick. The 2nd egg is dark coloured but hasn't hatched for a few days now. Another pair their chicks are 5 weeks and starting to fledge, I was so excited because there is a lutino and albino but think the nestbox has french moult! (another post!) Two pairs of cockatiels are also nesting and due any day, one pair previously had 2 chicks from 3 eggs but they died at 5 days after a cold snap. Even the Quails aren't playing ball, after hatching 6 chicks from 8 eggs, I found another chick the next day. Then 3 weeks old and she starts laying again. About 5 days ago pushed all but 3 eggs out of the nest and over the days has 7 out of the 9 eggs she is sitting on - they are due next week too, so will have to move the chicks from the parents. I am running out of space to put everyone! I hope I am able to give some helpful advice too, but at the moment could do with help with my unique troubles!
