  1. -Update 2- I went to the vets today, and it went pretty well. We discussed a few possibilities as to what to do, and what could be causing them to be sick. I asked her if they had any of those tubes available, but she said they don't have any that are for crop needling. Anyway, we ended up asking about the exotic vet she mentioned before. She said he stopped running his place, but she called a place anyway and got two different numbers of exotic veterinarians! They are both about 3 hours away in a city, but we are going to head up there Friday and check it out. I hope the budgies don't stress about it too much. We are going to be staying over night so we are going to try to find a place that allows pets. Wish us more luck!
  2. I tried holding her, HARD with big hands like mine. Okay, going to go to the vets very soon. How big of a needle would you reccomend I ask for? If I get no replies, I guess I'll go with a 14 gauge? I read that in the crop needling part, maybe I should ask for a couple different sizes just in case. Wish us luck!
  3. Yea, me neither. But I guess if I have to, you gotta do what you gotta do. I've read that you get used to it after trying it a few times. I'm just scared I might mess up, and get it down her airway instead.
  4. -Update- Koko looks a bit better now. She isn't as puffed up or shaking anymore. But now I have to be careful, because I know how well they can hide illnesses. I reasearched on crop needling, and it seems harsh, but I understand how important it is. I'll try practicing holding Koko the way these videos I found showed how to, but I didn't like how much he was shaking and waving the poor birds around. Here's the two videos I watched: Kasper is fine now, his leg is okay. No more bleeding, but still looks sick. I'll be going to the vets and asking for a tube for crop needling, but how big should it be? Thanks for the help.
  5. They don't have crop needles, they are only normal vets. Yes, I have an appointment tomorrow morning. No, but they were in cages beside eachother since before she got sick, and they still are. A little off the topic of Koko, Kasper seems to have red poops. It doesn't look like blood, but the poop part is all light red? He doesn't have any food or mineral blocks that are red, but Koko does. Koko was in with him, but would she be able to feed him any of that stuff? Oh, another thing that could possibly turn his poops red would be his pellets, but I'm not sure..... Is there any pages that I can read up on crop needling or something on the FAQs or in any threads? I'll start searching in the forums now though. And something else, Kasper got hurt. I was moving him out of his cage, and he flew off my finger to the floor, then he slid a little and got his foot stuck under a computer part. It happened really fast, but I ran over and lifted it for him to get out of. Then I carefully picked him up and put him into his cage, but I noticed he was lifting his foot off from the perch. He seemed okay, but then I noticed some blood on his leg, it seemed to stop bleeding. But he won't stay still for me to look at it and I don't want to stress him out by looking at it. I went back and felt the under the thing he got stuck in, but there wasn't anything sharp for him to get hurt on. Any suggestions? This was all my fault, and I feel so sorry for him.... and Koko, but I'll try to do my best to help them.
  6. The medicine only seemed to help change her poops back to normal, but now they are all mushy and liquidy. I'm not sure if the medicine is getting into her right, and now Kasper seems to be getting sick too. I think it is caused by her not consuming it right, if you read my above post you can read what she does. I'll be calling the vets soon to book another appointment. I think another reason for these problems is because the syringe I am using is a bit too big. Would they have any needle points to had on to the syringe at the vets? Like one that isn't pointy, such as those ones on air pumps? I'll be cleaning out her cage again tomorrow, is there anything that I should change for her to help comfort her? Also, I asked the local vets if there were any certified avian vets around. They said that there might only be ONE 3 hours away. They also said that it might be closed down now. :party0011: I guess I'll have to hope for the best. If anyone can give me any advice, please do. Also, if you need to know any additional info, feel free to ask. Thanks for the help!
  7. Wow, beautiful flock you have there. Your nixie looks almost exactly like my sister's Froot Loop. We've only owned him for 6 days. You seemed familiar to me, I remember you from another forum. :party0011:
  8. Okay, thanks everyone for the help. :hooray:
  9. Oh, thanks for the help. And for the comment. I agree with Dean Okay. :hooray: Thanks, it was funny how we named hime though. All day we were thinking of a name, and all of a sudden it hit me. I was like "Froot Loop!" And everyone just looked at me. Thank you.
  10. I'm having some trouble with deciding what mutation my new budgie Froot Loop is. He seems to be opaline, yelloface/goldenface, skye violet budgie. Does anyone know what he is? Back View Side View Front View I think he is sky violet because there is violet on mixed in witht the blue, it doesn't show in the pictures much though. Thanks in advance!

Hello! Hope your little ones will recover soon!
  12. Thanks! Thank you!
  13. Okay, thanks for the help!
  14. Thanks, I'l see if I can find some fresh ones tomorrow for him to try. But all they had out for them to eat was seed, so I don't know how he will react to them. Thanks, I hope they do. Okay, that will be perfect. It'll be close to the start of school here, so they will be able to be together around that time. That way they won't be too bored while I'm away. How old do you guys think he is? It looks like most of his barring is gone, but there are little patches of barring left on his forehead. Do you think this has to do with his mutation? Another thing I should point out is that I see a few feathers on the ground of his cage, which probably means he is moulting. Does this mean he is around 6 months old? I thought that he was, telling from his barring gone, the color of his cere, and the moulting. But they said they were all 4 months old at the pet store, another reason I should be wary of them.
  15. Oh yes, I would never forget quarentine. He is all alone in a seperate room from the other budgies right now. How long should I wait to end his quarentine? Thanks, I'm not so good with mutations quite yet. I'll get some more pictures tomorrow in natual light, it's too late here now.
  16. While me and my Dad were away last weekend, we decided to go visit the pet shop that was close to where we were. It has been a while since I've been searching and watching out for a good new bird cage for my budgies. So while we were at the pet shop, I was checking out all the different cages that were meant for birds. Before doing that, I looked at all the different birds there. Amazons, Lovebirds, Finches, Conures, Canaries, Quakers, Cockatiels, and Budgies. Ironically, the budgies and cockatiels (Same 'cage') were both in together, and were my last birds to visit. They were in a plastic tank (All of them were clipped) together that was about 3 ft all around. I think there was probably at least one of each mutation of budgie in there it seemed, because it was a rainbow when you looked at them. Along with their chattering, chirping, singing, hopping around, climbing, preening, eating; I could have watched them all day. I guess there was at least 30 - 50 budgies with two English budgies, and about 4 or 5 cockatiels. After watching them for a bit, I went off to look for a cage..... I ended up finding a perfect sized one that actually came with a deal of a free budgie! I hesitated at first, but my Dad said we might as well; since my sister has been wanting one for months now. So, after packing up my new cage. (Will post in another thread) I went over to try and pick out a healthy, young male budgie for my sister. There were so many to pick from, so I was chasing around all of them trying to find a male. I bent down at eye level with them, and wouldn't you know it. A beautifully colored male budgie scurried over to me and started staring at my face. After watching him interact with the other budgies a bit, I decided to get him. We had a bit of trouble catching him among all the other birds running for their lives, but luckily; his colors were so bright they stood out easily enough for us to keep up with him. We got them to prepare a bigger box for him to be in because it was going to be a 3 hour drive back home. So then we gathered up some extra supplies and headed home. This whole time, my sister didn't even have a clue that she was going to be receiving a new little pal. So she was sooo excited when we got home with a box wrapped in a sweater and a new cage. After assembling his massive cage, and putting all of the other necessary things in it, we let put him in to his new home. Which was about 3 days ago. I'm a little late introducing him, but here he is on his first afternoon at our home: He was eating and was suspicous of my big camera snooping around. You can see a hint of the violet on his neck. He got a little spooked from something on the side, but I actually got a good piture of his back! See how beautiful he is? But the color doesn't do him justice, he normally has much more vibrant colors with violet patches all over his back and neck. I'm pretty sure he is a male, but the pictures make it look like he has white rings on his nostrils, when there really is blue. Here is a better picture that kind of shows his colors better: He was hanging out near that dish for a while, but then decided to go for some perches up higher in the cage. Now he sits there and chirps every now and then and gets excited when he hears the other budgies down the hall. We decided to name him Froot Loop after going through many other fitting names, but the nmajority of us agreed this was a perfect name. Barely anyone disagreed with it. We haven't exactly decided how to spell it, but we actually named him after the cereal, froot loops. My mom even thought of spelling it like Frewt Lewp. I'll try to get a better picture of him today, so stick around. I think I see some spangle, violet, and yellowface in him. But I really have no other idea what mutation he is. Anyone want to try guessing? He almost is a perfect combination of the two budgies I already own, and I think he'll fit right in with the other two. Just thought I'd share!
  17. Awwww..... That picture just melted my heart.... Congratulations to all of you on taking in this little fella and providing two (!) loving and caring families. Hope all stays well with the both of them. Kassidy
  18. Hehehehehe.... I guess GB again!
  19. 3 more doses done. Last night, this morning and then again later this evening. The only thing that I'm worried about is how she flicks her head after I get the medicine in her beak, she almost spits out couple of drops. Should I be worried about this? It seems to be working, her poops are back to normal now. Only a slight green tint to them, but very similiar to Kasper's healthy ones. Much better than her other sloppy, mushy, watery ones. I'll keep you posted! Kassidy
  20. Nope, it's me! I guess GB!
  21. Hello all! I gave Koko her medicine his morning! She didn't co-operate very well, but I managed to get some into her. She didn't look good afterwards, but now she looks twice as better than before. I saw her eating, drinking, and her poops are looking better too. She still has a slight tired look to her, but seemed better and even let out a very cute chirp for once! I'll be giving her another dose tonight, so wish me luck once again! Kassidy
  22. Wrong! Muahaha! I guess rachlem!
  23. Thanks, I'll keep that in mind when we start harvesting them and see some wacky shapes. They are growing in a 5 x 6 plants block in the corner, I forgot to mention. :hap:
  24. Update for July 14, 2010 - Pumpkins Potatoes Carrots Lettuce Turnips Beans Peas Onions Cucumbers Tomatoes Corn Cantaloupe I'll get some pictures of the whole garden view, the herb garden, and the flower bed tomorrow. Thanks for viewing! Kassidy
  25. July 14 - The budgies have been very good with trying out their new foods, I think it might be time to try something different soon. Here are some pictures I got of them eating their grapes: I'll update the next time they try something different! Kassidy
