Hello all:
I am hoping you can help me.
My female parakeet (1.5yrs) viciously attacked by male parakeet, who is still only 5-6 months old.
We brought him in about a month and a half ago and even though she would peck at him (the normal bickering) here and there, it never got to any red flag warning point.
Other than this, they got along well and played together.
The cage they shared was big enough, more than the recommended size.
Water and food cups for each of them respectively and toys.
Today early morning I heard fluttering around and screeching so I came to check it out.
It's when I found my male parakeet bleeding and feathers around his crown all over.
I noticed his eye, immediately took him out.
His eye is shut and I believe he has lost it. It seems she was pecking at it and pecking at the crown of his head.
It's just horrible.
I called the vet but he is not in until tomorrow and I have no one else close by.
I cleaned him up as much as I could and have put him a different cage.
Previous to this, I nursed him by putting ointment for birds I found at Petco around his wounds.
He is eating and acting okay but he has no eye, I think.
What can I do in the meantime?
Has anyone else had this experience.
I am completely mortified.
All I wanted was for him to have a nice healthy life.
Please help.
