Cage Buddy?
I used to have a peachy face parrot and a budgie living together - they were good friends. We used to let them out and they would just wander around the house and follow each other everywhere. It was super cute. But as your budgie is not really tame, I think another male budgie would be best.

Justice For Mima. *upsetting*
That is so sad - she looks like such a loving dog - but without her little legs she wont have the quality of life and I personally feel it would be kinder to let her be put to sleep. I know that if it were my poochy, he wouldnt want a life like that being unable to run around the dog park (and pee on all the trees hehe), it would be a hard decision to make, but you have to put the animals feelings first, not your own. I hope the people who did it get punished, but like many other animal abusers, they'll probably just get let off with a good behaviour bond, or something similar.

Are There Things That I Should Be Providing Apart From Seed Ect
Thanks for all that info - With the egg stuff - Im not really sure - is one better than the other? Im not really sure what its purpose is. Do they seem to like one more than the other? When people mention feeding their birds crumble - are they refering to some sort of egg food? I have read about the egg food. Is that important for my male budgie too? I havent seen it for sale in my local pet store (Gold Coast). Are you meaning egg and biscuit? or egg powder? or both? You're already feeding fruit and vegies so that's good  , just becareful doing it daily as they may get poopy bums, depending on what fruit and veg you're giving them His poo is always normal and not runny. He enjoys alfalfa, watercress (favourite), celery, corn, bean shoots & sweet pea shoots. Different all the time depending on whats at the supermarket & fruit shop. Oh and with the sandpaper - not really sure what made me get it - but he seems to enjoy it and playing with it. I only put one sheet in the bottom so that it only covers a small part of the bottom of the cage. You've been very helpful about the mites/worming stuff - thanks so much

Are There Things That I Should Be Providing Apart From Seed Ect
Hello there - I have a couple of questions about what to get for my budgie. Is it important to spray them with lice spray? Is there a particular brand that sells a natural one as I read in another post somewhere that it can cause blindness if spray near their head. Also do they need to be wormed? Is it something that you add to their water? I have read about the egg food. Is that important for my male budgie too? I havent seen it for sale in my local pet store (Gold Coast). Just one more - are there any supplements that I should be providing for him? I have noticed that he has been eating (or at least trying to) eat the sand off his sandpaper on the bottom of the cage. I provide him with shellgrit, fresh fruit and veges daily (as well as seed/water). Sorry to ask so many questions - I am just so unsure what to get - so any brand recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks so much - Meeka  & Leroy

Getting A Friend For My Male Budgie
Ive posted before about my Leroy and I just have a question. He seems abit lonely (tries to feed his toys and grooms his furry "snuggie" that I put in at night) and I was wondering if I should buy him a mate. I read under the FAQs that two males together work well, and that suits me as I dont want to breed. He doesnt like to leave his cage (doesnt mind sitting on top) and I thought that if I got a friend for him it would maybe make him more social and confident. I realise that he will then bond to the other bird more than me but it is possible to be able to handle 2 budgies isnt it? So if I was to get another one would it be a good idea to wait until Leroy is abit more friendly and then introduce a new budgie so that the new one would copy Leroy and let me handle him as well? Leroy is from a pet store and I think that it would be a good idea to get a friend for him from a breeder. I live on the Gold Coast is anyone knows a great breeder. Please give me your thoughts.

Budgies Destroying Cuttlebone.
If they dont seem to be eating it maybe they are just bored? Have you got them a seed bell for them to chew? You could also leave some greens for them to eat and play with while you are at school.

Budgie Doens't Like To Leave Cage
Hi everyone, I have had my budgie Leroy for about a month and a half and he seems to be too attached to his toys and his cage and Im a little worried that he is bonding to them rather than me. He seems to be abit naughty now and wont do as he is told. When I first started training him, he was obeying me and stepping up onto my finger (while still in the cage) and letting me pet him. Now when I put my hand in he runs to the other side of the cage and wont step up. To get him out of the cage I have to use two hands and "cup" one over him so that I can get him out. When he is out, he is very stressed and pants alot and doesnt seem to enjoy it at all. He sits on my shoulder, but is still stressed. When he flies away from me I walk over to him and he will step up onto my hand. I only get him out its only for 15-25 mins as I dont want him to have heart failure and die from stress, Id feel so terrible. I have tried bringing his toys out with him so that he feels more safe and at home, ánd offering him millet - but it makes no difference. He had a mirror, but I took it out as he was getting too obsessed with it. His other toys are shiney ones and he can see his reflection in them too - should I take those ones out as well and swap it with some other ones. I want him to have the best life possible, but I also want him to enjoy coming out of his cage. Please give me some advice as to what I am doing wrong and any tips that you think may help. Thank you.

Hawk Problem
We had a Gos Hawk hang around our house as we had 2 cages outside and chickens in the yard. They are nasty horrible things. We had a Peachy Face parrot at the time who lost one of his eyes to the hawk. We had to just keep watch for the hawk and scare it away by making lots of noise. It got the idea after a couple of days and never came back. It seemed to come in the early morning the most. Goodluck, Im sure you'll be able to sort it all out. Just remember they are protected!

New Budgie Not Eating
Hello - I purchased a new budgie yesterday and named him Leroy (Lee-roy). I am a little concerned as he is not eating and I realise that this is usual behaviour, but I was wondering how many days usually pass before they start to eat? As he is young I have placed a millet spray on the bottom on the cage and well as some in a seed container right next to his favourite spot (well his only spot he's been in really lol). But he still hasnt had a nibble. I know that he knows that the food is there because he has taken a liking to sitting on top of the seed container (as he can then get a better look at himself in the mirror). He has been tweeting and is in very good health. Thank you in advance for any help or suggestions
