  1. Thats great our club is currently setting up a mentor program so hopefully all will benifit and new friendships made
  2. It is so disapointing to hear that some clubs are like this. I find my club great, have had heaps of help and have fallen into a group of people that i get along with well. People do come and go from these clubs but everyone needs to be given a fair go as it is the people coming into the hobby that will help push it forward. It may be only a few who remain in this hobby but if they don't find the help they need from the start then there will be even fewer. I also know that the people i wish to buy stock from time to time may not always have what i want available at that time, so when it comes to buying stock sometimes you just have to sit back and wait a little while rather then buying birds you really don't need or want and i've bought my fair share from auctions etc that i really just didn't need. Hope you find the club that suits you.
  3. I thought DF greys are grey and unless you could see some blue suffusion you would have to wait to see what they produced to establish wether they were SF or DF greys. I always thought my grey greens of having just a single factor grey. Am i wrong?
  4. The cock bird would have to be split Opaline to produce any visual Opalines

I had been using the tim stuff in their soft feed i never even thought about using the fresh stuff probably because we always buy the tim stuff for ourselves. I guess i'm going shopping tomorrow. Beetroot is one of my birds favourites.
  6. Had i lot of sucess with AI when i have needed to use it. Though i would prefer if they did it themself. Will let you know if i get some filled

The only photos close to funny i could find Don't Call me fluffy little bird I'll show you fluffy bird who feels little now
  8. this cock looks under 6 months i doubt he will fill anything ???? His a 2008(Black Ringer)Bird bought him last year from a fellow breeder. Have already had 6 chicks off him so he does fill eggs thats why i used him plus he is in condition at the moment and producing heaps off sperm. picture was taken when he was in his last moult though.
  9. She does come into condition and lays fine. The picture of her is an old one when she was still quite young. She is in condition now and she always pairs up and goes through the usual process. I have seen her jump away when the Cock tries to do his part so this may be the main problem. I could have missed with the AI last time. Hence giving it another go.

Just wondering if anyone else has had the frustrating problem of hens that no matter what you do,do not fill eggs. This is Jewel my problem girl, shes about 3. She has been paired several times to different boys some proven. I AI her last time with no joy. But like all determined people i decided i would give her one last go before she goes into my retirement cage. She is in with a boy this time who filled 9/9 eggs his last round and she is also being AI with another bird who has been knoen to fill. 4 eggs so far with none showing fertile yet. So wish me luck. 12. Hi There Yellowface opaline clearwings are what is being refered to when people talk about rainbows. You don't see them that often as they are not a standard variety but would be able to create them easily enough with the right birds. Thay are quite a pretty bird.
  13. Number 5 is a DF dom pied not recessive...... and proof is in this photo as well .....see iris rings I didnt need to see the iris rings ...the fact it was DF dom is obvious. Yep your right there Kaz. I missed that other picture with the bird there opps you can also see the cere starting to blue up. Your right dom Pied. Have to get my eyes tested
  14. My guess is 1 A Grey Normal could be opaline but cannot tell without seeing the back of the bird. Looks like it could be a dark grey. 2 YF Cobalt Recessive Pied 3 YF Sky normal 4 Grey Green Recessive Pied could be cinnamon but hard to tell 5 Sky Recessive Recessive pieds dont get the white iris rings in the eye so if any of the pieds have iris rings they would be dominant pieds. Some DF doms look a lot like recessives at first glance At a guess from photos posted
  15. Budgerigar by Rob Marshell is excellent and the most recent book written on budgerigars that i know off but with a price tag of over $100 and i havn't seen it available second hand as with the Challenge by G Binks. If you try ebay for secondhand books there is normally a good range to choose from. As for older books I always personally found anything written by Cyril Rogers(budgerigars in colour) a worthwhile read but there are many different authors to choose from. If searching for something specific the internet is as good as anything else. Also most budgie clubs have a library that you can borrow books from and members with a wealth of knowledge. Hope that helps
  16. You can try adding a product like quikgel or spark(vetafarm Product) to his water which are high energy supplements (there are other products like these out there but i cannot think of the others) that are designed to help give a boost to birds that are under a lot of stress. Acidifying the water with a little bit of citric acid or apple cidar vinigar can be very benificial as well i use about 1/4 teaspoon per Litre of water for the Citric acid and 5-10mls per litre for the cidar vinigar. Placing him under the heat lamp is always the first point of attack for a unwell bird. If the little fellow has picked up a bug somewhere then he may need to go the vets to be tested, but you say his poos are reasonably normal which is a great positive and that he is eating. Your doing a great job and i hope he keeps inproving good luck. comments made are my opinion and others on the forum may not agree with them.
