///////// This was a blood pairing Kaz,the parents visually are very ordinary. The mother is a double factor grey dominant pied, the dad a sky normal . Nice chick. Just a query. Which is double factored....the pied or the grey part? ///////// It's a sky dominant pied,it's mother was a double factor dominant pied,i know this because she has been with three different cocks & bred nothing but pieds, her parents where both dominant pied so she is one of the 25% or is that 50% not sure? ,so i am reasonably sure she is a double factor. If she was a double factor grey the youngster would have to be a grey pied.

A youngster was working on a school project, the subject "where do humans come from".He went up to hes mother & said ,"mum where do we come from",the mothers reply,we evolved from monkeys son.The boy went up to hes father & asked the same question "dad where do we humans come from",well son you know the discussion we had about adam & eve .The son looked at hes father rather confused & said "dad ,mum said we come from monkeys" & you said we come from adam & eve, i don't understand. The father replied to hes son & said, well son it's really very simple to explain, your mother told you about her side of the family & i have told you about mine.

  9. /////////////////// It certainly does Jack, many people i know determine the sex of young budgerigars using this method including myself. Here is an example of why the "rings around the nostrils" method is not true: He got named 'Ariel', because of the nostril rings, and I didn't know better. But he is definitely a boy! He's very bonded with a hen, and he's over a year old now, and has never had a brown cere, or any change in his cere at all. You can't just look at the nostrils, you have to consider the over all color of the whole cere. //////////////// Hmmm a debate going on here lol, white around the nostrils is the case as far as sexing young budgerigars make no mistake about it,i have a mate of mine writing an article "he's been breeding budgerigars for over 30 years & is well known by a lot of breeders"i will post it here when he is done. The fact of the matter is, this rule does not apply when sexing recessives & ino's as is the case with the picture above "recessive".In he's article he will explain how to sex ino's and recessives ,Watch this space cheers Phill

I am no carpenter rachelm, this is the first time ive tried anything like this,i don't like trays i always vacum out the breeding cabinets doesn't bother the birds at all .When the chicks are due to leave the nest box i don't vacum as much, that allows seed abgrit & selgrit to build up on the floor of the breeding cage, makes it a bit warmer for the youngsters plus there is always seed in there face wherever they are.As soon as they are moved to the nursery cage i begin vacuming again aprox twice a week.

  19. This chap just made me 26 quality wire cage fronts 24 inches wide 14 inches high with 8 inch square spring loaded doors & a sliding access top right for nest boxes. He is located in Queensland Al Beutel ,,,,, aeandmt@bigpond.com,,,, 07 54661384 .
  20. There is a lot of light going into the nest boxes from your pictures, turn the nest boxes around so the hole is facing the back wall, follow what everyone else has said in this thread and maybe get them on B12 that should spark them up.
  21. I think that if imports started again it would be a good thing,"most" of the big name breeders imported birds,& anyone who want's a quality bird these days usually will have to buy birds from them, usually via an auction. So why not give everyone the option of spending there hard earned money where they choose. There are horses that are imported each year to race in the Melbourne cup ,pigeons are allowed to be imported into Australia so what's the problem with budgerigars?.

  23. Yep i went, bought lot 49 replacement bird cinnamon opaline paid $700 & lot 149 cinnamon opaline paid $750 , very happy. The fellows bird lot 156 was a top bird got $3000,if i had the money i would have bought lot 175 spangle double factor white, this bird had an awsome head.
  24. I sent these pictures to Ray Welshman, this was hes reply. ///////////// The picture. of the bird You sent does not look like a MOP as the tail feathers are in line with the body, when it is a mop they are usually angled out about 30 degrees or more on each side. They just look natural feathers to me, they appear to have plenty of blood in them I would be more worried about them being french moulters than anything and I don't even think that is the case.

This bird i consider to be one of my best cocks, but he is already paired up.The better the hens ,usually the harder they are to get to breed so i am getting a cock this week which is a very vigorous bird to go with the cinnamon violet.
