What Do You Want To See In A Blog?
Hello everyone! I have a general question for discussion, feel free to contribute any ideas you have. The question is simple, what would you like to see in a blog about a bird? Pictures? Videos? Stories? What would you enjoy?

Is He Ready To Breed?
- Breeding Setup
Makes sense :emoticon112:, I thought it had it to do with other budgies in the aviary which the parents would find hard to cope with but anyway, I will find a good sized kindy cage. I wont be doing any breeding until my outdoor shed is built, I'm still researching the prices and what sort of shed I will need so if people have some ideas about outdoor sheds that would be great. I plan on putting my cockatiel cage in the shed along with the budgie aviary I'm getting, their will be one breeding cage, one nursery cage and one kindy cage. Since I'm only breeding one pair just to start of with I'm not going to make a big aviary, though if things are successfully in my first attempt at breeding, in the future I am thinking of building a small section in the shed to rest the parents, instead of using an aviary cage I would build a suspended aviary which I have access to from inside the shed, I would use my aviary cage for breeding cockatiels in future and I would probably use the kindy cage for resting cockatiel parents if I do breed them. But thats in the future if things go to plan, for now I'm only breeding one pair and I will see how I go.- Breeding Setup
Is it necessary to rest the parents if their is only two other budgies in the main aviary?- Breeding Setup
Thanks Kaz, I will see if I can get a kindy cage to rest the parents in. Dave, the birds I breed will most probably be the pair I discussed with you a while back, that is if you will still have them when I am fully prepared.. Kaz, approximetly how long do the parents need to be rested for until they are ready to go in the main aviary, is their signs you need to look for from the parents to see if they are ready to go back ?- Breeding Setup
Hi guys, In a couple of months I would like to start breeding a pair of budgies. I believe that I have done alot of research and I have the space and money to sucessfully breed budgies, in a couple of months I believe I will have sufficent information to breed them safely. I have been doing alot of research, flicking through the entire faq's section and breeding section, printing out articles which I think will be good reference for me in the future and Ive also read through the requirements to breed sucessfully and I think I'm ready. This is the setup I have in mind:, I have am going out this weekend to buy a breeding cage which meets the requirements stated in the pinned topics in the breeding section, I will post photos when I buy it. Assuming I safely breed my budgies I will move them to the main aviary, there is a link at the bottom of my post for the cage I ordered for the main aviary and I also have a nursery cage which I will post photos of. After the babies fledge and are ready to move on I will move them to the nursery and the parents go back in the main aviary, after three months or after they moult I will move them to the main aviary aswell. The last point which I made I'm unsure of as I do not know if the parents go in the nursery cage aswell or if they go directly back to the aviary. I am aware of the diet and close monitoring the chicks and parents will need until they are ready to go in the main aviary. Please let me know if I am wrong about somthing or just let me know if the setup is correct. Aviary cage on order: http://www.crazysales.com.au/large-sized-b...6-cm_p7055.html Thanks- Outdoor Bird Shed/ Aviary
you mean my dream one has a lot of potential - Outdoor Bird Shed/ Aviary
:emoticon112: thankyou, now it makes sense. I would love to see some photos of your other aviaries, your setup sounds awesome. After the parents are rested to the fledged chicks go in the same aviary as the parents and the main flock? Also, are your other avaries like sheds aswell or are they those types of avaries that you can buy from petshops and different pet warehouses.- Outdoor Bird Shed/ Aviary
oh right , your names sound similar :emoticon112: I really like Daz's setup then- Outdoor Bird Shed/ Aviary
their it is!! :emoticon112: I really like your setup, even though it is your old one I think its a great idea to have that aviary outside!- Outdoor Bird Shed/ Aviary
Hi, Thankyou for the information, I recently saw your new setup and I took some images from your thread (hope you dont mind) to ask a few questions. Your photos didnt show any flight cage or main aviary so I was wondering where you keep all your birds. Also you have your breeding cages next to the other section which appears to have other budgies in it. After the budgies breed where do the chicks go and where do the parents go ? and the other small section which you have shown in the photo, what is that used for ?. here are the photos I took from you thread just to let you know what I'm talking about.- Outdoor Bird Shed/ Aviary
Hi guys, I was just wondering how I would go about building an outdoor shed which I can store all the breeding cages, nursery cages etc. I have been looking around the aviary section of the forum and I saw some excellent setups. I cant find it now but one of the members had a shed which had all the cages inside and then sort of a cage which hung outside the shed but you still had access to it via a door from inside the shed. Do these things come built or do you simply buy a shed and you need to do it yourself?. Also, some people have their cages in the shed plus a small section which they keep budgies inside, what is the purpose of that?. What I would really like to do in the future is buy a shed, build a flight cage which hangs outside the shed but you have access to it from inside (I will try and find the photo of it from the aviary forum section). I would keep all the breeding and nursery cages inside the shed and have a small section which has some budgies in it. This is pretty much copied from another member who had a similar setup built and I thought it was really good, I think it was Liv but cant remember. I just had a few questions: 1) What is the purpose of a small section with budgies in it when their is also another cage which hangs outside the shed? 2) Is this an alternative to keeping birds in aviaries which can be moved around or can you also keep those sort of aviaries inside the shed?- Breeding Budgies Process
just a quick question after reading that post, this is the part which confuses me. After the budgies are 42 days old they are moved to the nursery cage: 1) do they stay in that cage for 3 months until they moult? 2) Where do the parents go when the chicks are moved to the nursery cage, are they put back in the aviary or somewhere else? After the chicks moult they are ready to go in the flight cage 1) Is the flight cage same as the main aviary? 2) Do the chicks go in the same cage as all the other grown up budgies? or are they in a new flight cage with budgies only their age? Sorry for so many questions but these questions have been popping up in my mind for the past week and wanted to clear them out!.- Breeding Budgies Process
Oh this post has everything I wanted to know: http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....showtopic=11715 Just made a total fool of myself!!, I'm sorry for posting this thread up when their was already all the information in the other thread. Thanks maesie!- Breeding Budgies Process
Hi guys, I have been reading up on budgie breeding information and have come accross a process which budgies which goes through breeding budgies. It starts of by pairing two budgies together and either putting them in a seperate cage or breeding cabinet (some do colony breeding aswell). Could someone tell me the rest of the process, such as what happens after the budgies hatch and so on until they are ready to live without the parents, where are they moved to then? are they moved into the main aviary with all the other budgies or do the budgies who hatch and are ready to be by them selves go in a different aviary?. I'm not breeding my budgies but just was something which peaked my interest, and wanted to increase my knowledge. If someone could provide a step to step process on budgie breeding I would greatly appreciate it. I know everyone has different ways they go about breeding them so I am interested in how everyone does their budgie breeding.- Getting Started..
okay thanks for the suggestion, I will leave the birds for four weeks to let them settle down.- Getting Started..
Hi, I will soon be buying a breeding pair of budgies from one of the members here and I need some help getting started. I have read through all the information I can find on the forum and on other sites though I was wondering when I do get the birds before I put in a nest box what sort of diet should the budgies be on, what is essential for them to breed properly?. I have got the basics such as a cuttle bone and normal budgie seeds. Also after the budgies lay the eggs is their anything I need to do other then providing the proper diet the budgies need. Any help will be appreciated.- Tips Needed.
Thank guys, I will read through all the information on this site, and will give that a try james sounds good to understand the basics first.- Who Lives In Sydney
