Planning An Aviary
Hi I can't help you with the way you have to secure a aviary or birdroom against you native predators and pests but i can maybe point out some useful ideas for the inside http://theoakleystud.webs.com/birdroom.htm especially the work area is most important in my view its added at the bottom of the pages as its a later update

Breeding Results
i am most exited about these chicks 2 visible opaline hens one unexpected cinnamon and that tells me dad is split for cinnamon as well the hen is also a cinnamon so it may be a hen or cock another opaline i think but i'm not sure if there is 3 hens, opalines, in this nest that quite a result a normal chick from a opaline sky blue hen and grey grenn spangle cock pairing from the same nest and i'm stumped about what these will turn out to be colour wise sorry about the dirty hands a occupational hazard i'm afraid and then i have a load of spangles that are cousins to the chicks in the first next, the opalines this little fella left the nestbox and wednesday and i put him back 2day looks like he or she didn't get fedd much while out of the box i've been away all week in winchester and my missus and daughter did a grand job looking after the birds but they didn't think to put the chick back in the box and a box full of spangles i have 7 from this pair with 3 more with the parents these 4 where fostered i also got spangles from another pair

My First Blue
Hi Elly I'm not surprised but exited that my first ever blue could be a hen the bloodline i bought the cock from produces very few blues. i think i have seen a hand full in the main flight when i bought him and his sister the hen in the pairing is a cinnamon sky blue normal so there where due to be blues. i'm especially exited as i can pair a hen back to the sisters young who is paired to a yellow DF spangle and they produce nothing but greens. there are the makings of a nice bloodline

My New Bird Room
thats a serious downside i hope it will not be as bad as the last time i've seen the pics on the news and that was pretty scary i totally agree with splat on this your rooms great and i move my birds into the open air in summer and dont usually breed them between dec and over jan as too hot although i think i over come that problem last year with a mesh door i made so ....we will see  well do fantastic job thanks guys. i also have a mesh door so i can leave the maindoor open during the summer and incase something escapes thats my old birdroom Kaz i found it a little restricting so i bought the big shed and returned my garage back to normal once i boarded the shed i just transferred all bits over only the flight needed modifying

Breeding Violets
violet and cobalt Hello i have a cobalt cock and a sky blue hen i will pair of in march as they are a bit young for now i also have a violet cock born last new years eve the question is do i want to pair it to my 08 yellow face hen and end up with type 2 yellowface violets like the mother or should i try and get another sky blue hen from the same bloodline and breed more violets apart from having a yellowface the hen is not particularly good then i could pair the chicks of those pairings towards each other and cross in the yellowface once the birds are old enough or even get a outcross yellowface with better features cobalt cock sky blue hen violet cock yellow face __________________

My New Aviary Extension..
Hi Thats a cracking flight cage I just can't get over the fact that you use metal instead of wood it must cost a fortune but in the long run i can see why you have to do so some nasty white ants :reading: my new birdroom is a 14x7.6 feet wooden shed i gotta make a thread of my own but now i need to do some budgie paperwork keeping up with chicks hatching and being rung make life much easier

My Bird Room
they tend to get out once in a while  i got 17 including an australian yellowface i'm going to pair to a DF spangle cockonly one pair on eggs for now. 9 laid and 7 are fertilei got room for 50 birds in the flight, 30 in the big stock cage, lost the small one and if i remove the dividers in the breeding cages i have room for 40 more plenty of storage in there and i'm thinking of building a custum extraction something. gonna have to go to the drawing board first.for the time beig i open the windowthis is the current layoutsorry but i got no smaller picturesFloor Lay out http://i678.photobucket.com/albums/vv142/U...dRoomLayout.jpg Weaning Cage http://i678.photobucket.com/albums/vv142/U...er/P1050675.jpg Stock flightAbove i will add 6 more breeding cages http://i678.photobucket.com/albums/vv142/U...er/P1050676.jpg Main Flight http://i678.photobucket.com/albums/vv142/U...er/P1050680.jpg Breeding cages Only 4 in use The other 4 front have been ordered and are taking ages to get here http://i678.photobucket.com/albums/vv142/U...10032009079.jpg My Bits and Bobs for every day useI find using those smaller tubs for seeds etc etc make life easier in a small set up like mine http://i678.photobucket.com/albums/vv142/U...er/P1050677.jpg

My Bird Room
this bild started on the 25th of feburary and took 4 weeks to completea few changes have been made as improvementsi copied and pasted this from a english forum and thats the reason i keep going on as if i did it bit by bit...well i did ;D first pictures are from just after i sold all the fish, most of them, got the tanks out and removed the rackingremoving the racks made a bit of a mess of the floor so i reborded it http://i678.photobucket.com/albums/vv142/U...25022009050.jpg those boards ar 44 inch square 9mm ply and are used a packing material at my friends factory. needless to say i get them free;)the other end.you can see one of my stockflight frontsi got 4 of those 44x24 inches. they will have draws for cleaning http://i678.photobucket.com/albums/vv142/U...25022009051.jpg these 2 are of the flight i will finnish 2daythe walls have been tripple lined and need paintingit all neds painting.a job for the weekend http://i678.photobucket.com/albums/vv142/U...26022009053.jpg http://i678.photobucket.com/albums/vv142/U...26022009055.jpg the room is not very big and i can't get the whole flight into the picture.with consideration towards my next door neighbour i decided against an outside flightit will be cramped but top notch when its all done.the flight is nearly finnishedall i need is a cage around the light, (i opted for a 25w /150w 1400 lumen energy saver i successfully used on my fish tanks) a feeding station and a wire cover for the windowI have room for 50 birds, that means roosting space. I'm not sure i wuld want 50 birds in that flight. It seems to me its not big enough for that http://i678.photobucket.com/albums/vv142/U...28022009056.jpg http://i678.photobucket.com/albums/vv142/U...28022009057.jpg This is the right hand side that will house 3 biggish stock cages, my seed bins (i get 20ltr buckets from work i will use for that) and a sink with storage underneath http://i678.photobucket.com/albums/vv142/U...28022009058.jpg on the left are the remaining 3 fishtanksonce the right side is build up and completed i will transfer the fish into 3 smaller tanks i temporarely going toset up on the head wall.then i can finnish the birdroom by building my breeding cages.Anyone for Snakeheads? http://i678.photobucket.com/albums/vv142/U...28022009059.jpg it was meant to be a cage front for one of my stock cages but i made the main flight just 1 inch to wide and a cage that size doesn't fit nowhowever it didn't get wasted;) http://i678.photobucket.com/albums/vv142/U...01032009060.jpg i need to re-allign the door/ flap as its not quite rightthe flap, formerly a door:D will enable me to opn the window in the summeri gonna build a new cage front 2 inches shorter so the cage will fit in nice and easystep one1 small stock cage with storage underneaththis will contain my seeds. i got big 20ltr buckets for that still needs door http://i678.photobucket.com/albums/vv142/U...02032009062.jpg step 2the big dividable stockflight80x20x28 inches and it can be halfed http://i678.photobucket.com/albums/vv142/U...02032009063.jpg http://i678.photobucket.com/albums/vv142/U...02032009064.jpg step 3this was supposed to be the sink but i decides not to have a sink in the birdroominstead i will use the area as a working plattform for putting down nestbox draws, keeping records and generally clutter it upunderneth again will be storagethe doors will be fitted later http://i678.photobucket.com/albums/vv142/U...02032009065.jpg the next levelall painted white http://i678.photobucket.com/albums/vv142/U...02032009067.jpg fronts attached and draws build and fittedi will change to draw fronts, i just used some left over wood up for now http://i678.photobucket.com/albums/vv142/U...03032009068.jpg http://i678.photobucket.com/albums/vv142/U...03032009069.jpg i'm having an evening of for a changesod it all:Dhere is the latest updatebuild these this morningluckyly my mate popped round and gave me a hand moving them into the birdroom as they turned out a lot heavier then i thought http://i678.photobucket.com/albums/vv142/U...05032009070.jpg and after 2 coats of painti will do a 3rd before bedtime http://i678.photobucket.com/albums/vv142/U...05032009071.jpg rite, i will explain what i'm planning to doi have added the framework to the cages now.sadly the fronts are missingas you can see in the picture there is a long Pal timber at the top of each frame now and also underneath about 40mm of the floorthis will hold the cagefront and allow a draw to be insertedi beleive hygene is important and draws will make that job so much easierin order for the draws to work i added a internal frame that will overhang the draws and stop bits from falling down the wrong side that frame will also be used to fasten the bottom of the cage front to http://i678.photobucket.com/albums/vv142/U...06032009072.jpg and here is one of the draws of my bigger stock flight http://i678.photobucket.com/albums/vv142/U...06032009073.jpg also each cage is roughly 29 inches wide but i only will use 24 inch frontsin the gap i will fit a purpose build nestbox 12 inches high okay this is as far as i can go for now the forum will not let me post more picturs in this topic is there something admin can do as i got a few more to add?i hope you enjoy this post and it gives you an insight into my birdroom

Hi There
Hi all I'm a keeper and breeder from England and i only just stared out this year I have experience in keeping a variety of birds including budgies but the breeding side is new to me Currently i have a pair on eggs with eggs no 9 laid earlier 2day (today) and 7 are fertile. All other pairs have failed to deliver and the cocks have been moved to the flight again and i will pair up in a weekor so and try again. I hope to learn something here as the site seems very well organized. It probably will take me a while to find my way around all the sections see ya around then
