  1. Thanks heaps for that Kaz, to tell you the truth, b4 I got onto this website I didn't even know that you could touch the eggs or the chicks! I've been breeding them for a couple of years now and have always checked them but never touched them! I've learnt so much!! Big thanks
  2. Thanks for that. They've had 1 chick from the last nest so I think they should be fertile? The hen did go in the nest almost straight away after I paired them up so maybe she didn't mate. I bought the cock from a breeder out of the paper so I don't know how old he is, he couldn't tell me.
  3. Hi I went into my bird room today to check on a nest that was due to hatch yesterday and noticed that 1 of the eggs had been broken and dried yolk in it, I then checked the other eggs and they too were just yolks This pair only hatched out one chick last time and the other eggs weren't fertile, why is this happening?

I don't know about this 1, my birds like to be able to chew at their nest box in preparation for nesting. If it was me I probably wouldnit use it

Are bottle brushes okay for my budgies to chew on, and also what other branches are safe? I read yesterday that eucalypts are good and we put them in and the birds went crazy!!!
  6. Yes, when I first started breeding I used the colony method and ran in to all sorts of problems, birds breeding to early was 1 of them. I had young hens that had no idea what they were doing and a few lost chicks! I then started breeding them in seperate cages and haven't looked back.

My husband had a large garden shed wich I transformed into an aviary ( much to his disgust!) We cut out some of the panels leaving about 1mtr of tin on bottom to keep pests out then covered the rest with bird wire. Then we halved and made the second half into a bird room for breeding cages. My husband then ran sisalation paper along the roof to keep the heat out. Works a treat!!!

He was a great looking bird
  9. They are much better pics, I would have said that the grey 1 still looks like a cock.
  10. Yeah I didn't say but I was looking at the green bird too. Thanks Pearce for that info, I always thought males had purple nostrils and female chicks had white nostrils.
  11. I'm fairly new to breeding but I honestly thought it was a male, blue beak?? It's so hard for me to tell at this age, I'm always getting it wrong!

Hi all, I went out to my bird room this morning and discovered my first lot of of chicks for the year had hatched out! I got 2 on the one day as one of the eggs was fostered from another pair. The next chick is due to hatch in a couple of days, I will send pics. Beutiful parents but not sure of what they are cause I'm not up with bird colour types yet. Look forward to learning though!!

Hi all, I've just signed up as a new member. I love budgies and have kept budgies now for about 4 years. I started out with a pair and now have 50 budgies. It's a great hobby and very rewarding. I'm looking forward to meeting other breeders and comparing notes and learning more about these great birds. I'm just budgie mad, I could sit there all day and watch them!
