I'm an aromatherapist and olive oil will deffinatly not cause the feathers to fall out! obviously it's something else. You shouldn't be using baby oil because it's petrole based and will just clog and not alow the skin to breath. Try using a more natural base such as plant derived oils (grape seed etc that will absorb but not clog!
  5. All I can say is nice, nice, nice! great birds you have there

Well seen how everyone has had there opinion on this topic I thought that I should keep up with the trend and have my opinion seens how I started this discussion and it got way out of hand!! I own over 40 budgies and have been breeding for a few years now but still class my self as a beginner. I have learnt so much from this forum and managed to save quite a few birds from it. I think that everyone has a right to there own opinon but just remember that there are beginers like myself on this forum that follow the advice and reading some of these messages and getting very confused. Using common sense I would never breed a young bird, not only is it selfish on the breeders behalf but also extremely irresponsible!!! Think of the poor bird before your ego!!!! I think of what's best for my birds before what they are capable of!! A human girl can fall pregnant at age 12 but would we encourage her to????
  7. Fantastic set up you have there, I'm jelous!!
  8. Very crowded or is that just the perch area?

  11. Sorry, I agree with the others! Perhaps remove one of the hens for now and let the other hen bring up the chicks, that way you won't be losing any eggs. Put the other hen in a seperate cage for now if she becomes a problem. Just my thought!

Hi all, I took a chick from a nest about a week ago now as it had been pushed aside , had sevear splaid legs and was near death. I have been hand rearing since and the chick is coming along really good now but... I tried the make up sponge idea for the splaid legs and the chick wasn't impressed but put up with it but by day 4 his feet were slightly purple, so I removed the sponge and his legs are still very splaid! Please help, what do I do now? I dont think the sponge was too tight, do I put it back on or try something else I have been giving calcium syrup too

Hey, I have a budgie exactly the same as that! I have no idea when it comes to colours but what is he? I've bred mine with a lutino hen and they had beutiful babies.
  23. Hi there, it soungs like a great idea taking him camping, only thing I could sugest would to be to put a cover over his cage while your traveling so he feels safe and secure. Apart from that, have fun!! :grouphug:

  25. Good to see I'm not the only one trying to juggle work, a large family and my favourit hobby (my birdies) Heathro I get up in the morning and get my children ready, then I go out to the Aivery and do my checks and top ups, then I go into our home office (We have our own business and I work from home). Our Aivery is just outside our office window so I sit in there and look out at my birds and pretend to do paper work LOL while my husband thinks that I'm buisy doing work! Then in the after noon I go out and check them all over, do any more top ups and close them up for the night. I spend about 2 hours on a Saturday morning cleaning out the cages and changing feeders ect.
