  1. update. Freckle laid her next egg on the right day, but again it was not in the box. But it was in a different place closer to the hole, so I'm not sure if she laided it outside or threw it out afterwards.

Rainbow it is a nest. I don't think it's for budgies? But then they will nest in any sort of hole. I'm with Hath I think they would chew it to bits.
  3. okay thanks, I was only thinking of it cause I was worried about egg binding. But if I take it now she was surely laid one or two more anyway. I finally got that book that some folk in here said was good and it answered a few things for me that other books didn't. So it's okay that she took two almost three full days between eggs to laid? Or did the lost of the first one upset her cycle?
  4. thanks for the info, I will try and store it way for future use. But she laid her second egg that night, again out of the box, she was even like jumping in and out of not five minutes before like a madman. But again it was as if she sat on the branch and laid it. I don't think she is going to be successful at that mother deal. I think it would be best to remove the box. That won't harm her more? will it? In the middle of the circle of egg laying? I know that you can take the box out if she is laying a second round with babies still needing attention, but it is okay to do this with out any babies? I can't see how that can be much different. You really learn just how much you took in with something like this. I though I had all bases covered. Maybe it just help me calm down to get a second opinion.
  5. update okay it is now Tuesday here and I found that first egg on Saturday. hath I think I need your help to answer theses questions Could there be a problem with her? she is still running around the cage like mad, and jumping in the box and digging about. But now egg. She doesn't look sick or stressed she is eating happily and I gave then some carrot today and she was telling Pie to back off as normal. Is it possible she will only lay one egg for her first time? Could she be moving into her second round? I can't remember if budgies can stop laying after having laid some if they don't think it is safe to breed? Is that so? :bluebudgie: I swear I'm going out of my mind.
  6. okay well that make me feel better I just rased off and did as you said and checked her, she wasn't happy about that, let me tell you, (Laughing out loud). It seems she has plucked her feathers around her vent, is that normal?? I'll keep a close eye on her (as if I'm not already, (Laughing out loud)) if she starts plucking in other areas. She doesn't' seems stressed at all, she races about and get mad at her bell and eats and grooms Pie and all the normal birdy acts. I just panicking at the little things, I'm sure all first breeders are. edits to say - no second egg yet :bluebudgie: But I think she will lay it soon, most likely later today or tonight.
  7. it just didn't seem as if that was the case. It was on the other side of the cage to the box and under the branch that they sit on the most. It was almost as if she didn't know it was an egg. Well I know she has been digging around in the box for like at least a week and tonight she is due to laid her next one so fingers crossed. This is her first time so she just may be a bit lost in the whole matter.
  8. If he doesn't like new things in his cage hand the mirroe on the outside for a while and see what he done, it might not scare him as much as if it was in his cage? Just an idea. Also if he like music and such have it playing while you have to to the wrok around his cage, replacing feed and everything, it may calm him a bit and he might linking the fun music cleaning being a good thing. When you do the workd to you talk and sing to him? That may clam him too. It sound like you are doing a great job with him though.
  9. okay I need this help bad, this morning I when to check my two budgies and found an egg on the bottom of the cage. I am trying to breed them and they have had a nest box for two weeks. But this was like on the ground under they branch as if the hen didn't realise it was an egg. Well I picked out (using some paper towel) and found that it was cracked. I don't know if I should put in the nest box so Freckle gets the idea for next time or just get rid of it, this was her first egg. Does any one have any idea to get them to understand that they need to laid in the box? I haven't been about to find fake eggs, but I'm heading out today to hunt a bit more, I'm not sure if this would help or not, but I thought if I could put one in she may laid others with it? What do all your breeders think? I have been around the pet stores in my own but can't find any fake ones, I was told marbles would do well? does that sound right to you?

Well i was told not to breed my bird who I thought was five (work out she was only four later). Both by Hath in here and other breeders that I talked to. So I think 6 is a bit much. Is there any way you could get another set and start with them?
  11. I want to get my hands on this pet store owner, hiring people that don't seem to care. The bird little girls, yes budgies continuity lay eggs if they are taken away and so they lose calcium in the body. and it seems the male wished to case the other ladies in there instead of caring for one.
  12. From reading stuff here (mostly from hath) and a few books candling is shining a light on the egg and looking for a red dot inside, meaning they are fertile. umm I think it's best to keep handing of egg to a minium. Because germs on your hand can kill the growing baby inside.
  13. ohhhhh I've never heard about that before but now that I read it it akes lots os sense. The poor birdoies don't fly all day, they sit about alot so they will want lots os space to rest I'll keep this in mind if i ever find a place to build an aviary myself
  14. OMG I woud have told the staff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I guess if they where split then the bond would be broken and if the hen was left she would give up on the egg.

Like cherpy said I just want to clear something up, you said: that doesn't mean they are oppsite sex, all budgies kiss and prean and sometimes feed each other, it just means they are friends. Since you onely have two and they are int he same cage they would have a close bond with each other.
  16. *Nerwen* replied to chirpy's topic in Budgie Safety
agrees with the two above although my birdie never spoke any word, but that was my fault not taking the time to train her Flying or not flying has nothing to do with talking, keep it in the cage while you repeat the word or words you want him to say. He would be a capative audience then
  17. I just thought I should clear it up a bit that you use the tubey paster not the skinny stuff, (Laughing out loud). I'm sure oyu worked that out but just in case..... I haven't had a chance to use it yet, i'm trying my two with veges so I don't want to put too many new thing in at one time.

oh well i just thought since it is soo much colder in England than Aussie, but then the budgies over there a bit different. The end is the same they still die.
  19. a bit off topic but above Animal Student said: well today I saw two wild budgies up close, like caught and OMG they are stunning!!! Much nicer than the normals found in pet stores and breeders. They were almost half the size of the budgies people own but the green was so clear and the yellow lovely and bright. plus the idea the budgies are good to eat??? Think about it, they size of the bird you would find mostly bones. The effort it would take to catch them in the first place why would they bother??? It was something believed my the settlers and how much of other things have they gotten right? oh and nice pics adam I wish I had the room to have even your 'little' flight cage
  20. If you want cheap toys I read in a budgie book that a string of raw pasta is good for them the chew to bits.
  21. *Nerwen* replied to a post in a topic in Breeders Discussion
DON"T LET THEM GO!!!!!!!!!!!!! *faints* Budgies can not live 'wild' in the UK!!! They would die from cold in winter and the fact that they wouldn't have the skills to live wild.

wow was that confusing, and I have been reading about colors in budgies for ages. Well I worked out if my two ever had any they would look like the mom, normal colors (green/yellow) but she is a spangle so I'm not sure what that would do but the **** is a ressive pied. I think for what I understand from colours to get anything away from the green and yellow for the first generation the hen would need to have the codes for other colors.
  23. It's been a while becuase one it was hard with my dog about, he wanted to chase her and kill her and when he got locked up he barked and carried on which did help her settle down at all, and then life took a hold of me and I was leving the house before sun p and not getting back until after sun down. But now I have the time yes I plan to let them out more (plus my dog died a few months back) Hopefully they will both love me to death soon.

okay thanks a lot for the answers, the cage in inches is 22.5x 15x 19 if that helps. I also got some book about breeding and that answered a lot too. I've always wanted to breed from my girl but I don't want to put her in danger, so I will think about continuing or not becuase of her age. But at the moment she is showing all the signs of been ready to breed, been more distruive than normal.
  25. hay I so happy I let my two budgies out in my room for a flay bout, now I hav done this alot of times with my girl (freckle) but never with my new bog (pie) Freckle remember about it, becuase I aven't done it in like a year or more but she happil sat on ony finger and shoulder like she use to. They both flee about a bit and tired themself out, but Pie was really really goo, remeber I have never do this with him before but he once I caught him he sat on my shoulder happy as larry I had some millet seed for them and they ate that. I was so hapy that it worked out so well, I thought he would freak and just keep flying away from me. *dances about with glee* my two birds are just so smart.
