After losing Tilly and the wonderful support i recieved from people here, i wanted to update and share some news. I made a decission with my daughters to by a cockatiel. He is my first cockatiel after always having budgies,i am still interested in getting another budgie but not just yet. I have noticed some of you have both budgies and cockatiels, I will appreciate some advice when i do get a budgie. All the best wishes, I will keep in touch Thanks again Cheryl

RIP Tilly 16 march 2000 - 30 January 2009 Thanks for being such a special part of our family we will miss you forever.

Thank you Kaz I have just buried her in a very large pot that has a frangipani growing in it. The girls seem okay, The youngest, 11 year old, helped but the 15 year old didnt want to. It is going to be quiet without her.

Thankyou all for your help Tilly has just passed away. I am very sad but pleased to say she is at peace and it was very fast. She was okay this morning before i went out and when I got home at 1.30pm today she was on her perch. At about 4pm we noticed she was on the floor of her cage, i held her for a while but she was happier in her cage. RIP Tilly XXX

Tilly has a tumor i had her at the vet a fortnight ago and was told nothing could be done.I had posted about that then, sorry for people that have missed the post,i should have explained, but being upset i didnt think. I have kept her comfortable and she is about to die, i wanted to know wether to let her die at home or take her to a vet and have her put down. Vets nearby closed now and would have to call emergency out of hours. Thankyou for your help

Thanks for your fast replies. It is not hot where we live our house is quiet confortable weather wise. The girls are talking to her and she is just looking at us. I am worried that she is in pain so i am hoping she goes peacefully sometime soon. I have to work tomorrow so it will be hard to go and leave her alone if she doesnt pass away.

Tilly has been going well but suddenly about half hour ago she has put herself on the cage floor. She is puffed up and doesnt look good. Do i take her to a vet to be put down or do i let her go until she dies. Really bad timing my daughters had just walked in the door from school , we are all crying. Thanks Cheryl

Thats terrible! how could she not know that hair dye would be poisoness. I am a hairdresser and a bird should not go near a persons head during or after the hair dying. Pleased you said no to her and i hope she thought about it later and now understands.

Tilly has this "ferris wheel" as we call it. It is also her favorite toy and I have had to replace it a few times as she has worn out the balls. I have noticed the balls can be quite sharp when worn so i keep a watch on it. Think i will remove it now she's no longer using it lol Thankyou for this post, I didnt realise they could get a leg stuck.

Wow Krosp, 12 years old! that makes me feel better. When i was little we had a bird with a lump it couldnt fly but waddled around for a few years.My mums budgie also had a tumor on it's chest mid last year and he was operated on sucessfully by a wonderful bird specialist.I live a couple of hours away otherwise i would take Tilly to see her, she was really kind and caring to my mum.Tilly seems okay still in herself ,especially after car trip, she is eating, talking and screaching if the TV is too loud lol, but is having to wriggle around to poo and seems a bit off balanced on perch, seems to me it is weighing her bottom down?? Its just her age that is still concerning me the others budgies were only a year or so old.. so a better chance.I am hoping the drops will fix the parasite problem at least , half the battle for her. It would be great news if tumor was benign,so i will look for and see a specialist in this area.Thankyou all for you support. That is right, i dont want her to suffer she has been big part of our family. She was an easter present to my daughters who were 6 and 2 at the time. She has given us a lot of joy and laughter and still is at this stage.

Thanks Sailorwolf The vet is not a bird specialist ,he said that himself when i went in, so he didnt really say anything other then that the tumor was in a tricky area and that he thought it would interfere with her internal bowel, i was too upset to hear much else, he just elaborated that it would be like operating on a 90 year old person, im not sure what to think.

is a sad time for me and my daughters.
