  1. Well Confetti is finally in with Lemon, the past few days we had their cages together to see how they would react to one another closer together. Lemon seemed deperate to get in there and she seemed love struck, Confetti paid little to no attention to her. Yesterday we moved Confetti over into Lemon's cage and so far so good. She's had a few digs at him and made herself look bigger and taller then him, trying to boss him around cause it is -her- cage after all. But after that she started to kiss him, then had another go at him. But they're getting along rather well considering, just looks like she's telling him who is boss, a sorta pecking order so to speak, but their cuddled up together outside now, and they've been preening one another, its quiet cute So I have high hopes for these too, I know she'll warm upto him fast.

I bought Confetti from Daz on the weekend and today will be day 3 of having him. But since I bought him home, he hasn't eatten and I am worried he will starve if he won't touch anything in my cage, we have seeds, and veggies for him to choose from but he just dosn't seem to touch it. I understand he may be still adapting to a new home, but he really need to eat something. Is there a way I can coax him to eat?

Everytime I bring Lemon out to give her medicine [to cure her of the parasites] or just to let her out of the cage at night for an hour or so to run around and climb all over us, she seems to be pancing a little. Her wings twitch, and she dosn't seem to do it when she is in her cage, its like her safety blanket so to speak. I am trying to get her handle friendly and trying to teach her to talk. Is this normal for a budgie when their not used to being handled so much?

  14. I had been reccomneded to go to the Vet at Chermside by another vet because she couldn't tell me what was wrong with Blueberry. After checking the crop, euthenizing Blueberry, cremating him, and checking the crop on Lemon and also her poo, and then handed a bag of pellets my bill came upto over $300. Now I think that is a bit too expensive for tiny birds. Is there any places that are Northside Brisbane that won't cost me an arm and a leg everytime I go?
  15. Lemon isn't overweight or underweight, she is a nice and healthy, but she looks rather lean and slender [compared to how bulky Blueberry was] But she seems happy with the seed and fruit and veggies I am giving her, but I didn't even have a choice with the pellets, she just placed them on the table and told the other woman to add it to my already expensive vet bill. At that time I didn't really care cause I was in tears over Blueberry as it was just wanted to go home and be by myself.
  16. Thank you guys I will continue to suply her with them but if she dosn't touch them by the time I buy her a friend their gonna be ditched.
  17. lol I know it will take some time, but I wanna be able to keep supplying the food I know she is gonna eat, and not have her starve to death if she won't touch the pellets.
  18. Hello  I was told by the bird vet a week ago that I have to get Lemon off of the seed and supply her with only pellets and fresh fruits and veg. But the thing is, Lemon dosn't seem to like the pellets at all, and she always eats the seed and fruit and veg. I have tried doing exactly what the vet had told me to do to try and get her off it, but as soon as the seed was finished, she wouldn't touch the pellets. I bought her the Trill budgie mix seed and its aparently ment to be good for them, so I am confused? Do I supply her with all three for her to pick and choose from or try and 'ween' her off the seed completly? We had around 10 budgies a few years ago and they we're always on an all seed diet with fresh veggies every couple of days.
  19. So say in a year's time and I wanna breed her, and her boy wasn't a dominant, they would more then likely look like her?

She was such a beautiful girl, sorry she passed away ):
  21. Thank you for helping me determine that Lemon is definetly female. Now I'm just wondering wha type? She also has a very dark blue back, she woudn't turn around for me so I could get a photo of it. (Lemon is currently being treated for mites)
  22. Teagan replied to Teagan's topic in In Memorium
I know, I have had budgies before, and I have only just recently started getting back into them. But when I go back to the vets in 2 weeks for her next dose for the mites, the vet is also checking to make sure she is in the all clear and dosn't carry anything. But when I buy a new bird it will also be getting a checkup.
  23. Thank you I had a feeling Lemon was female, just when the cere looked more blue it had me thinking again.

Well yesterday morning mum came to my door and told me Blueberry. my budgie, had looked very sick, so I go outside and he had alot of trouble breathing, he had diahrrea, and he could barely keep his balance. By this point I'm freaking out and called the vet for an ASAP appointment, we got there and had to wait around 45 minutes when she said we could get in straight away. The vet saw Blueberry and then told me she wouldn't know what was wrong and then told me to go to a Bird Vet, so they booked us an appointment and we headed over there. The vet looked at Blueberry, and told us straight up he would have very little chance of surviving, but if I wanted to try and save him that we can put him into intensive care, he was underweight, and they would of had to force feed him, give him antibiotics and kist keep an eye on him through the night, and if I wanted to continue on with that it would of been $150 a day after that first night. She did a swab of the area where he stores the food and she put it under the microscope to find alot of parasites. And I mean ALOT of them, she felt around his neck and found he had a very large bump around his throat which is the reason why he was struggling to breath. So at this point she was going through my options of what I could do with him, I wanted him to live but watching him just looking for hopeless and struggling to breath, I asked for him to be put to sleep, of course between sobbing. I was really upset and I still am, I have been crying alot since then. She also checked out Lemon, which also had the parasite but not as bad and she was seemingly fine. I now have her on antibiotics. So I hope Lemon pulls through this. It turned out when I bought the birds they already had the parasite, so I am never buying from a pet store again, and going straight to a breeder. The vet is gonna give me the number when I go in 2 weeks from now for Lemon's second checkup.. I am gonna miss Blueberry so much, I only had him for just over 2 months, it really isn't gonna be the same without him. But I think I made the right choice.. Blueberry with Lemon
  25. I had 2 budgies, Blueberry and Lemon, I knew Blueberry was definetly a male, but unfortunately he had to be put to sleep yesterday as he was violently ill..Still very upsetting.. Lemon is the only one I have left now, and I am confused on what gender it is, I refer Lemon as female because the Cere is usually a pinky/purple colour, but some days it looks alot more blue. I was wondering if you guys could give me some help? S/he is about 5 months old. Lemon is currently being treated for mites.
