  1. Looking at the eyes of the other CKC's I can see where my Harvey shows he is crossed with Shih Tzu. His eyes are bigger? Ears aren't as long as pure bred either. I still think he is beautiful even if he is a bitser!
  2. he is just beautiful, how old is he? I have a CKC too, he is nearly 5 months old but is the tri colour. I just love their "sloppy chops". My Harvey at 4 months
  3. Hi, they are two different birds.
  4. I have taken the box out of the aviary. Just her and her mates now, she seems to be enjoying the new flight. They all have 7 metres of flying space from one end to the other! A bit dissapointing to lose all 10 eggs but at least she seems okay.
  5. I check the nest twice a day. The two that were dead this morning were doing great last night, lovely full crops, growing nicely, looked like they were starting to open eyes (they were 7 days old). I don't know what happened. Yes, they were in the aviary, colony bred, something that will never happen again, we DO live and learn! She has shown absolutely no interest in going to the new box. I even managed to catch her and put her in so she knew where the eggs were, but not luck. I will just wait til I am a bit more educated about breeding and will do things the "proper" way. Hopefully we will have better news soon! Debbie
  6. unfortunately, the 2 chicks died overnight. have no idea idea. i took the remaining eggs out and put them in a clean box, then i caught the hen and put her in. She seems okay at the moment but has a serious case of egg bum! Could she have killed the chicks because she is going to lay again? There are 6 eggs in the box and have lost 4 babies. debbie
  7. hi, My hen, Dianne currently has 2 babies and 6 eggs in the nest box. It is a long thin one and I have been told the chicks may not be able to get out of it. I want to move Dianne and her "baggage" to a better box but not sure if I can without upsetting her. Any suggestions? I thought about turning the current box onto its side but then the perch for dad to feed her is on the side of the hole not underneath, would that be a problem? Also, she has lost 2 babies and has buried 2 of the eggs, does that mean she knows they are infertile? Debbie
  8. I gave the guys a shower today when it hit 35 and got these pics, thought they were gorgeous! Gemma lapping it up Dianne (who currently has 2 bubs and 6 eggs) in bliss!
  9. They are just all so gorgeous! This is my beautiful baby face Muffy who I had to have put down in Octpber 08 due to multiple organ failure. She was my 1st born and my only girl(I have 3 "human" sons) As a baby As a 10 year old, having cuddles with Daddy, 2.5 years before she left us This is my new monster Harvey, supposed to be a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel x Shih Tzu At 8 weeks 2 weeks ago, at 4.5 months

Thanks for all the advice. I was going to cover the roof with that waterproof shadecloth stuff. I lined the top of the fence next to the aviary with it to stop the rain getting in, seems to work well and isn't as hot underneath as tin. As for the grass, I hadn't thought about mice or rats! I use ratsak in the aviary and have baits along the side of the aviary near the fence (totally unaccessible to anything I don't want dead!) but I think the paver idea along the inside sounds good. Do I did them down or just place them next to the base?

Hi All. I have finally finished the flight. So far the birdies are a bit reluctant to go thru the aviary door. Hopefully they will! The quails have no probs, love the grass. What does everyone think? Any ideas or suggestions would be great. The flight is 4m long, 1m wide and 1.8m high. Aviary before flight attached Aviary with flight attached
  12. Thanks Kaz, What about a Danish pied with a show type? I have been told I can't breed my Danish recessive pied cock with a "dominant recessive pied" hen that I apparantly have. I don't want to be breeding birds that are a genetic blow up waiting to happen
  13. Hi all, This is probably gonna seem like a stupid question to all you experts, but what would happen if a pet type and a show type budgie were bred? Is it okay or not? Debbie
  14. The cock, Jack, is a strange colour. His cheek patches are the same as Boof, who is a grey green but Jack's body colour is no where near the same. I would call him a green blue, like the sea, if that is possible? His tail is black.
  15. Hi everyone, I am so excited, I just had to share. My hen has laid 10 eggs in 20 days, the 1st being laid on 2nd Feb, when it was really hot. I wasn't sure if they would hatch but when I checked this afternoon, there was a baby! MY FIRST EVER! As I was peeking I noticed another poking out of its shell!! 2 babies in one day. Here are the parents, any idea what babies I should be getting?
  16. Hi, I have these two greys, very similar but Ashley, the hen is darker than Smokey, the cock. Just wondering what type of greys they are? This is Ashley This is Smokey Together, Smokey on left Ashley on right
  17. is his shape good or bad? we called him Boof coz of his big boofhead.
  18. After having a close look at Boof, his cheek patches are more a steel blue than purple. Florrie And Cindy have purple patches. Boof's tail is black. Does that make him a grey-green? I have tried to get some better shots.
  19. This is how my big fat guy Boof sleeps, still waiting for him to do a face plant!
  20. Hi guys, I have just checked the nest box again and have discovered that there are now 8 eggs in there! Isn't that too many for one clutch? She started laying 2 weeks ago, the 1st being due to hatch in 4 days time. I am just concerned that she is still going to be laying when the 1st ones hatch, provided they didn't cook in the heat we had. Anything I should be doing? Debbie
  21. Hi all, I currently have the aviary pictured which is 3.2m long, 1.5m wide and 2m high. I have just been given the open flight pictured that is 4m long, about 90cm wide and 1.8m high. The problem is, I am not sure how to use it attached to the aviary. Do I leave it long and build it up to the same height? Make a suspended long flight to fit above the door? I have no idea!! I also have access to more of the metal parts if needed. Would love some ideas! The aviary The flight Debbie
  22. Hi all, I have recently aqcuired these 4 gorgeous greens. I have no idea what they are. Can anyone help? This is the only boy, Boof This is Florrie Maggie(left) and Cindy( pretty sure she is a cinnamon?) Cheers all, Debbie

I sang to a snowman because my family thinks I'm stupid anyway.
  24. They are just gorgeous. My husband accidently hit one in the truck and unknowingly ended up bringing it home. What a shock it was to find such a beautiful bird on the front on the truck! My boys were so upset and I was in tears. My hubby gently removed it from the truck and it was obvious it's neck was broken, so at least it didn't suffer. My boys took a feather each and we then took it down to the bush and gave it a little burial ceremony. My hubby felt so horrible but as he said, it is a bit hard to swerve when you have 60 tonne on behind you.
