Question
not trying to be ...whatever you want to call it, but i too kaz can tell when chick is 3 to 5 days, after that they start to change. its easier at this young age i get confused when i have not studied chicks when cleaning box but do what you suggested somewhere once . Right my guess down then confirm if i was wright or wrong i started breeding at 15 years old but to this day sometimes dont call it how it is but am normally correct if i have made effort to check when few days old ,my easy way out is to stick to sex linked birds

Boys,girls Or Pigeon Pair?
i say both cocks i have lots of pieds recessive and i agree she is clear flight as doms dont have spots although can be noted with wing markings doms have full blck feather marks and recessive fade out towards the end ... but im only novice so still get my clear flights and doms mixed sometimes but usually due to them holding recessive gene also just my spat on things

To Grit Or Not To Grit, That Is The Question! + 1
hi all i always feed my birds chicken carcus and they hog it down ,along with fresh bread daily veggies ,i even burn my own gum log in the fire pit and give it to them all, but only for one day every few days for one month, as the have the iodine bells cuttle fish. linseed i add once a month. i feed home grown millet ,weat, and canola, fresh gum and native nuts off various plants (washed), red soil from fire pit and from root ball of grown seeds mandarins bananas apple so on so on. and shell grit of the small variety. If i go out anywhere i always on look out for a treat to bring home for them i feed left over porridge but take it out with in half hour my birds have never been sick except this year when i did not quarantine a new bird. I remove everything every night and they never get the same thing i always rotate. My breeders get a bit of rearing mix as well as the above i find that the chicks throats are a lot more full when mum and dad has this on offer. I am not a show breeder just a hobby to keep me sane but i do try to stick to the breeding regime of no more than one clutch for my hens. In may just after a molt and then oct last eggs laid before the heat wave and i stagger my breeders so they have a good long rest before second clutch 3 to 6 months depending on birds condition and i wait one year before letting them sit. As to grit or not to grit i believe yes but like you have all stated small and fine i am a strong believer of recolds even for just a backyarder

Cage Shower
Thats cool , sorry about the pun ... i am putting a similar thing in my aviaries when i move soon but am making the hose a dripper hose along the one wall kind of like a water fall with a catch tray along the bottom that will run back to the original water source this will recycle with a small water pump

What are my birds Mutations?
hi trish im not to good at this myself but i do believe but may be mistaken that the blue and white budgie is a spangle with a pied inheritance hence the laced wing markings and the spot on head there has been talk that spangle budgies can have spots on head but this is only due to having a pied inheritance eg mum spangle white wing ,dad pied white based hope this helps my knowledge is mainly due to my own breeding experiences im no expert but seeing is believing and best way to find out is to pair it with a pied most probably a danish i would say if chicks come out spangled and pied there is your answer good luck some one else i am sure will probably know straight up but im just a novice and injoy the challenge of finding the perental genetics of birds i know no history of most times i am able to be right and can start my own line from their hope i did not confuse you there

Need To Clean My Aviary
eight is normally when they sit but if the have more than that they will wait till they finished laying before collecting then once all collected the sit quail eggs don't incubate until they collect them all just the more they lay the least out come i had 30 eggs for seemed like forever then when i tossed them 11 were a day off hatching so i just leave mine then once collected all eggs i let them sit for their presumed cycle before discarding i find always get chicks with out fail this way
