My Bird Get's The Sniffles At Night ?
Birds can get colds like humans , and if you stay outside in cold weather you will get the sniffles . Your bird may have an upper respiratory infection , most likley mild if she is getting better each time , I would look at only putting her out in warmer weather and look at where you put her , is it drafty or in a windy situation , cover the cage , Budgies have their lungs close to their backs so they can chill quite quickly .

DF crested you would describe how ? Wouldnt a canary with a crest on top of its head and one on the back of its neck be a DF crested ? Yes

What Is The Hardest Mutation To Find/breed For
Thats a bold statement , Id like to see your pratical breeding theroies behind it, and as for a breeder not knowing if the final eggs dont hatch due to the double up than your really clutching at straws, truth is if any serious breeder has a nest of more than 5 eggs you would be looking a moving them around to increase the chance of hatching . There are many reasons why eggs dont hatch , even normals lose eggs. The bird in the picture has a multiple double up on the crested factor , crests can apear anywhere on the bird but its up to the show breeder to concentrate on the birds that conform to the standard. There are many ways to breed crests , I know a guy that sucessfully breeds them in a flock situation with good results. Everyone to their own.

What Is The Hardest Mutation To Find/breed For
Years ago , I bred crests , I purchased them from Frank Jefferies on the North Shore , I bred Crest to Crest and multiple times to increase the number of crests in the flock . I never encounted the lethal factor , I believe its a myth. From these Crests I then bred them all to normals to get the crestbred birds , Like the Recessive Varieties you have to keep the size in the bird to maintain the show quality and this comes from the normals , The bird is always judged first , then the crest.

They would then be the hardest to breed ?. Just because they arent in our avaries doesnt mean they cannot exist , Nature has performed wonderious things before . The question was what was the hardest mutation to find/breed for ? . This to me is the mutations, That we dont have. To me, a mutation that exists is a named mutation and then we can decide if its hard to breed based on them existing and what we know of breeding them. If it doesnt exist it is not a mutation at all YET. Its kind of like saying the purple budgie with pink spotted wings, black tail and yellow and blue striped flights is the hardest to breed If we are to talk about existing mutations , Then none of them are hard to breed , as long as you can purchase the variety , you can breed them. But in saying that , If you are talking to conforming to the show standard for a particular variety , then its a completly different subject, All Varieties have to be respected as different challenges, That is why there are specialist breeders .

Grey Budgies
So if one was to continually breed greys to grey, would every generation get darker? Yes to a point, If you look at a grey bred from a blue you can see the blue sheen in the grey it is a different colour and if you pair grey greens together the grey will become more intense in the feather and there will be less green feather.
-
Grey Budgies
Correct, it is a modifyer and as you said changes the background of the birds colour . If you keep pairing the grey or grey green together you will double up on the grey factor making it stronger , Violet works in the same way by modifying the background colour.

Old Cock Birds

Looking Ahead
Renee, You cannot hanging off too long this year as the breeding season will be short and you only have 9 months too produce those champs for 2009. Goodluck with them Hens.

What Do You Think Of This Pair-
They look like a nice pair, Ones that should produce good stock birds to continue on with if you are looking to show . Keep in mind to cull hard though , this is the only way foward , pick your best 2 birds and use these for your stock , Try not to pair Cinn to Cinn and Opaline to Opaline , if you pair back to Normals ( As you have done ) you will produce a mix of varieties and this will help with your size , spot and Feather features. Goodluck with the breeding.

Round Two Eggs Clear
Couple of ideas for you , The Hen has held fertile sperm from the previous matings for the first egg to be fertile, The young chicks that are out are interrupting the mating parents , The cock bird is worn out from feeding and not in condition to produce fertile sperm, Pluck the cock birds feathers from the vent area so you have a more successful chance of mating, you can also do the hen. Move the young out if they are feeding by themselves to a nappy cage so the parents can get back down to business.

Pro Biotic
Now that's interesting. How can I get hold of these articles? Mods? Any one out there knows of this? The tetracyclines will with prolonged use cause thrush , Like all antibiotics when you start a course you should not stop until the completion time , as with humans you dont stop taking them for a day and start again. The doxicycline is the replacement of the older tetracyclines and does not cause thrush , but the older meds can still be used , just take care with there application. Now with Probiotics , you should not use them during the course of antibiotics as they will have no affect and be wasted , once the course of antibiotics are finished then use the probiotic as this is good bacteria and and will flourish in the gut and help stop the bad bacteria taking hold again once the antibiotics are finished.

Clearwings/greywings/dilutes
The Dilute is a Recessive factor , in Which White is the factor and as the name says this white factor dilutes the colour on the entire bird, it can be mistaken to be greywing at times thus the problem with the variety on the bench . The clearwing is what it says a bird with no markings what so ever (yellow wings on a green bird and white wings on a blue bird) any markings is a Fault. And greywing is just that a bird with grey in the wings instead of the appropriate ground colour ( ie yellow and black on a green bird and white and black on a blue bird).
