  1. Also dont want to bother you to much but how could l make my aviary more rain proof so minimal to no rain enters the aviary. l was thinking of extending the roof each way and also change the roof to a clear colour so the budgies still get daylight but are also protected from rain...unless it is on a really sharp angle.
  2. so thats four budgies. one breeding pair = two budgies ... sorry l should have worded right. But yeh l only have one breeding pair ( two budgies of opposite sex) .
  3. Wow im confused...i meant like i bought two birds of opposite sex and was they have babies fed them, waited 8-12 weeks until the babies and stand on perches, eat food etc then i will move the nest box. Atm there is only two birds in my aviary/cage. l thought colony breeding was having lots of budgies mating etc and having multiple nestboxes and l only have two birds and one nestbox so i thought i wasn't colony breeding but i will read
  4. wow thanks alot KAZ and DAVE l have already learnt so much from your contribution in my two threads l posted. For sure as soon as day comes tommorrow l will post picture. Now l think about it l probably should have brought it from a breeder it would have been cheaper and more reliable as he obviously knows how many times they have breed etc. In saying that...we learn from our mistakes
  5. and yes i did remove the nestbox haha l will most likely connect it through the outside of the cage but i will have to make sure it cant get wet inside. Yeh l dont plan on colony breeding as l have seen in pet shops and through other aviary budgie videos it gets very dirty and lots of illnesses lurk the aviary. l will most likely let them breed in this aviary/cage and then move the nestbox to a spare cage l have. Also for cold weather/windy will putting a thing blanket sheet around the aviary be enough for the budgies to manage through the nite without being to cold, what is the best way to keep them warm from the wind.
  6. Petshops will tell you anything you want to hear..............please post pictures of the birds, in particular the iris rings of their eyes so we can assess their actual age for you you cage will also get rain in it so the paper will get wet. Any plans for weather proofing the suspended aviary ? well atm its sunny and has been for couple of weeks with little to no rain so newspapers will be good but l will get the sand once it comes the wet season. If it does rain they will must like hang out on the other end of the aviary where it is protected by the fence/shed and some leaves and il most likely do some DIY to stop the rain hitting them. You are correct l guess the pet shop wants to sell there birds so they will say anything to sell them. Atm its 7-30pm so i will take a picture tomorow Also could you please reply to how many birds can fit in my aviary/cage.
  7. l have been lazy to read the sticky topics and search the internet so hopefully you guys can help me I have bought one breeding pair [ two budgies of opposite sex ] and the petshop owner said they are in there prime as the cock has a dark blue cier [ i think its called that] and the female a dark brownish one. l have bought a bell which contains iodine and calcium for the birds. I have also bought shell grit l believe it is called. They are also located a a quite large aviary for two birds so there is no threats of other birds and there is lots of space to chill. Is there any other things l can do on my part to encourage them to breed.
  8. l have only been there once it is very big and stores a wide variety of birds. There is another petshop nearby that is really HUGE that you might want to take a look at.
  9. have you tried your local pet stores, trading post, gumtree or even forums like these?
  10. goodluck with your birds moglet keep us updated
  11. thanks for the replys guys with the breeding i just intend to do it once so they can have like a family inside there and obviously remove the nestbox so no more breeding i have a spare cage and spare nestbox i could use to breed more if l decide to, thanks for the reply's Also how many birds could l fit in that cage/aviary the dimensions are 230cm length 60cm breadth and 90cm height..... and replying to KAZ i have bought a pair of breeding budgies from the petshop and they are over 12 months old. For the floor im experimenting with newspaper for now as its simple but if it gets to hard to manage or clean i will try some white sandpit
  12. What should l put on the floor of my aviary/cage? Currently l have a piece of gyprock underneath and on top of that some wire. The gyprock can be taken out to clean the poo but it does make alot of noise and l am scared it might be a negative experience for my future breeding birds. What could l put as the aviary/cage floor without taking the gyprock out. OR what could l put as the aviary/cage floor with taking the gyprock out. As l have heard that the aviary floor should have some natural settings which will help the birds breed as they feel at nature. Also incase your wondering that is leaves from a mango tree, l am aware that they are can be harmful to budgies and therefore l will trim the tree once l get my birds. Last point the nestbox will be moved to outside the cage and connected to the inside as l believe this is the best position of it. Thank you
  13. You guys hate me no offence yeah? My parents pay for the seeds and there needs! The money i get out of breeding goes to me. I know its not a lot but i can stop nagging my parents to buy stuff for me; more responsibility! No offence to you guys but everything i have to post there is a multitude of replies that are negative, rarely any positive. For example i know a person this old man who gave me these budgies for free; he has about 50 budgies right if he sells 40. That equals about 40 times 15 dollars= $600. Now he has 10 left they will breed in spring about 4-5 eggs that's another 40 budgies. Then he is back to 50 budgies and he can sell them again. he might get back maximum i say about 300 dollars in food; so he gets 300 dollars profit a year; not quite bad considering you just take care of them which is fun and you can play with them!!!!!!!!!!!!! spelling please use spellcheck before posting so that your posts dont have to be physically edited by staff to be able to be read
  14. Answers to your questions; lol! 1) the box isnt that secure but if i see it on the ground i will make it secure. 2) I get inside the cage by opening it from the bottom, the birds don't escape because they love me. lol! 3)I love budgies and i want to see there cycle. Also i would like abit of cash from it. =) will he birds breed regardless of age, as i dnt no ho old they are also. Can they like dis-like each other as we humans do?
  15. My Bird Cage! does the position of the breeding box count? my birds hang out in the top left corn facing abit of the side of the box and abit of the front.. will they realise they can go in and out etc...? ? theres the cage above
  16. when the baby budgies hatch from there egg, will the parents eat them? i know this seems bizzare thing to say but i am just starting breeding and need all the info i need. =)
  17. I have had them for the night :hap: and they seem not to tear the green mesh, but il still keep it in the back of my head. Trust me this thing is heavy unless a heavy heavy heavy heavy storm comes in, it will stay put. Its dimensions are 110cm by 110cm. :hap:
  18. I have 2 budgies at the moment and will breed at the start of the school holidays(2 weeks time from today.) and l'm very happy. What do you guys think?
  19. By reading other post and having a look in this topic, i see quite a number of give me aviary ideas/suggestions or me to build one. I believe people should post topic like these but the have to include pictures of there backyard to show where to put the aviary. No dimensions or lengths to no how long it would be. They are entitled to show this topic but give more information in doing so. I just thought of saying this to warn those who will try to do topics like those. Its not a lecture just showing you the right way!
  20. Remember my old aviary: above? Rotten, weak and old nails not to mention. Well I have seem to have found some timber in my shed! So i decided to knock this one down and to build a healthy aviary which isnt rotten but strong and new nails! I took a picture below and will show you guys my final/finished aviary! down Its not the longest or tallest but I will add adjustments once I have finished this one! So what do you guys think? good? Instead of replying to you in my threads let me just say now, Thankyou!
  21. I live in sans souci/ramsgate yourself? What's your msn/hotmail/live account so we can talk more there easily :hap: :)
  22. you are trying to help but if i had money and support from my parents you reacon i would be using this wood? not at all.. My parents oppose the idea of an aviary while i love it.. so they wont support me and i have to use what i can../
  23. down where i live, its been raining all night and all morning... i checked to see if the aviary is in good shape and its good laugh out loud.. then what type of wire is right for aviaries and how do i add it?you guys areant much support, 1st of all i got this all for free from my neighbour so i payed nothing instead of just leaving it there i thought of making an aviary. Well doesnt matter... also i have moved it by myself and the wood stayed on nothing collapsed
  24. also how would i add chicken wire to my aviary?
  25. would it be possible if i make my floor grass as shown in the picture then when the birds poo i just wash the poo into the ground? would it be possible?.,
