  1. good luck with this little one
  2. Just a quick update, Molly has more eggs yay the first one is definitely bigger than the rest. She is still sitting nicely and coming out for me to look inside each morning. Minnie is doing so well in the aviary and has been exploring the nest box, so here's hoping. She doesn't even seem to mind when I walk in their. Cant wait for more eggs and babies :hap:
  3. I have just candled the first 2 eggs and they both appear to have veins in them. I think I will add the egg and just keep a close eye on everything. Thanks
  4. They are in a cabinet as they are being quarantined and it is the only cage spare. I had blocked the nest box off however when I found the egg I opened the box and put egg inside and hen hoping she would sit. As they are in a breeding cabinet the perch is not very high All my birds are over 12 months except one which is only young and in a cage of its own. I havent candled molly's eggs yet as the first one was laid last friday. She has 3 already. She has never had babies while she has been with me. She is very good though and sits all day. I am putting millet sprays in with her because of that.
  5. My new budgie pair that I got on the weekend has laid an egg of the perch. It has not cracked at all. I would like to try and save it. I have put it in their nest box but obviously she is still too stressed to go in there. She is showing no signs of wanting to at all. I put her in myself and she just came out. My question is how many eggs can I foster into another hens nest. I have molly on eggs at the moment but dont want to overload her with too many. This is her second clutch. Last clutch was only 5 and they were infertile
  6. Great news Molly has 3 eggs so far and is sitting like a champ, I am adding millet sprays to keep her going. She is so good, she doesn't even mind when I check on the eggs. I just tap on the door and she pops out so I can peek. As soon as I step away she is back inside. Mickey and Minnie have been put into their own aviary and are loving it. I'm not too worried about them breeding just yet, I will let minnie get used to her surroundings first and if they do breed then it's a bonus. She does seem so much happier than in the breeding cabinet. They have even been down the bottom of the cage picking at the rabbits food and grass. The rabbit doesn't mind though. So all is moving along at my house!!
  7. Thanks, I have removed the eggs now and will let them settle in. I am sad that the person could no longer look after these birds at such a critical time and I could do nothing to save these eggs.
  8. I have been given a breeding pair today(in quarantine) and they had 2 eggs with them. The hen was in the box when I got them but since then she hasnt been in there. What is the best thing for me to do? she has been off for quite a while now. Should I foster the 2 eggs into my other hens nest who has 1 egg at the moment( second clutch but first was infertile) or leave her and hope she will go back on them. Has egg bum and known to lay at least 6 to seven eggs a clutch, or is there a way I can incubate them myself?

The millet spray is great, I put one in my birds box as she has been in there for weeks and she loved it. So at least now I know she is getting enough :feedbirds:
  10. congratulations, I am excited about getting 1 egg this morning, I can only imagine finding 11. Good luck with them all Im sure they will be beautiful like all your others
  11. I have just been and done the morning rounds,I noticed yesterday that molly had a lot of feathers in her nest box(she had thrown all the shavings out a while ago) and today there is a nice big egg!! Mickey and minnie still don't have any and I haven't even seen her in the box for a while. I am thinking about moving them into the other side of the aviary as she just doesn't seem happy indoors in the breeding cage.
  12. just an update on lucky, It turns out I believe is a she after reading posts about cere colour etc. she has the white rings around. She is eating and plays heaps. Loves the millet, very friendly unless she thinks you are going to grab her then she bites HARD. She still loves the bottom of the cage but Im finding she is curling up there and sleeping. I am so glad I found her.
  13. all the toys have now been removed and new ones added,
  14. Here are some pics of Lucky. He is now perching but he seems very strange. He spends all his time climbing up and down not even trying to jump to the perch etc like the others. He also likes hanging upside down all the time. Maybe there is something just not right about him. He is now eating small amounts on his own and I have been hand feeding watering as well. I think he is going to be my special boy? At least I think it's a boy. Can you tell me if he is a boy or girl and what breed? Im guessing a yellow face something?
  15. He seems to be doing fine since I have got him home, even eating the millet yay. He is in a separate cage away from the others as I know the risks and no way am i going to risk it. I will try and post some pics tomorrow, maybe you can all tell me his exact breed or close to it anyway. Thanks for the help
  16. I have just been to a bird place to get food etc for my budgies and we noticed a baby for sale sitting on the bottom of the cage floor not able to perch and having trouble eating. I felt so sorry for him so I bought him home with me. My question is what should I be feeding him? I have no idea how old he is. Should I put some millet in there for him as well as seed or give him soft food(egg and carrot etc)
  17. I have just been watching my pair in the avairy, molly has been in the nest box for a few days now, she is out and having fun with Tommy(if you know what I mean) but then they seem to have switched roles and she is mounting him? Is this normal? It is actually quite funny to see because he will actually try and flip himself over when she does!! I know she is a female because she has laid before, her cere is crusty brown and his is blue.
  18. well I thought I would start a journal on these 2 pairs as they both seem to be showing signs that soon we hay get some eggs. At the moment both females are in boxes and coming out to have a bit of fun with the boys. I am very excited as they have all been separated for a while now and finally seem to be getting it together. Cant wait for the eggs
  19. great news, two of my pairs are now showing very good signs that things may happen soon, they are both in the boxes quite a bit and have seen them in action with their mates. Thankyou everyone for the suggestions, hopefully soon I will be posting about eggs arriving!!
  20. I have just swapped the 2 pairs outside (molly and tommy back in the avairy and sunshine and raindrop in own cage) and would you believe molly is already back in the box! Another question, sunshine a dominant pied is feeling very large around her belly and has been guarding the nest box hoever her cere has not changed, I was starting to think she is past breeding age(was not told age when brought) as she has never shown any interest. Does this mean she may be getting ready to lay or she just eats too much? What branches are safe to use?
  21. Thanks for those suggestions, I will put the 2 from the avairy back in there and the others out, and I will add more light to the room for minnie and mickey as it is not very bright. There is another bird in a separate cage that they chat to all day so it is not silent. I hope they come around, minnie does actually seem very scared and jumpy when I go and feed/ clean water etc so maybe she just needs time
  22. there are only 2 other birds in ther and 1 other 2 nest boxes. I dont want to colony breed so not sure about putting them all back together
  23. I have 3 pairs in separate cages at the moment to breed, 1st pair mickey and minnie. Mickey seems very keen but minnie just doesnt seem interested. I have moved them from outside with the dogs to a breeding cage inside away from noise and kids etc thinking it was maybe too stressful for them with the dogs and kids running around outside. Is there any reason why she may not be interested? It has been 3 and a half weeks now and still nothing? Next problem I have Molly and Tommy who laid a clutch earlier in august while in the avairy. I separted them and put them into their own cage once her cere turned brown and she was showing interest again, however she seemed to go weird once in that cage and just sat there and kept trying to get out. I put them back in the avairy and within a day she was in and out the nest boxes, however fighting was going on so have separated again and now nothing. wont even go in the box? Any suggestions on what I should do with any of these pairs, whether try new partners, swap cages etc would be appreciated. sorry it is so long

I just thought I would show off my beautiful new budgies that I got on the weekend from Kaz. I think they are just absolutely gorgeous. They have settled in well and are very keen on each other. Their names are mickey and minnie What do you think thanks Kaz
  25. how can I tell if he is split for blue? He has some blue tail feathers. Also it is definately a hen, she recently was sitting on eggs that she laid. The quality of the photos isnt that great, I need a new camera.
