  1. the baby is alive and doing well. It is a miracle. From now on I will not be throwing any eggs away without checking first!!
  2. on close inspection of the eggs 1 had pipping like a chick had tried to hatch out. When candled there was no movement. Curiosity got the better of me even though it was agreed it was probably dis for being cold so long etc. I started to open the egg and there was chirping!! The baby was alive. So I have just hatched my first baby. I have put it back in with molly and am hoping it will survive. It was an amazing moment
  3. should i remove the eggs left
  4. still only 6 babies, the last 2 eggs havent hatched yet. I think they might not. when i have checked the babies they seem to have pushed the eggs aside so molly isnt sitting on them properly. Should I just take them out? Molly is a very messy feeder and has food all over her face Tommy is in there helping as well so I think it is probably just as well the others havent hatched yet. I have officially fallen in :happy-dancing: with baby 1 .Im not sure why but as soon as I see it my heart melts. It also seems the most comfortable being held. They have started opening their eyes and the first is I think starting to show some colour? Not sure as this is my first. Where I presume the feathers grow it looks like blue specs? I probably sound really dumb!! There is not much down on them. Is this normal? How young can you tell the sex? baby 1 is 7 days old and cere is very white?
  5. I've added rolled oats and did it with the babies still in the box so lets hope this helps and she doesnt throw it out again. She wasnt happy while I was doing it though.
  6. I will try the rolled oats, Do I take the babies out and place in a container next to box while I do this or try and do it with them in?
  7. okay thanks
  8. I cant get a photo at the moment, will try later, it just seems to be bits that molly has been feeding them and she has got it all over them. There is no nesting materials as she has thrown it all out every time I have tried. I can try again though any recommendations on what to use
  9. just wondering, my babies are all covered in their food, what do I do with this? Do I clean them? and if so how? or do I leave it? The youngest is only 1-2 days old :chickendance:
  10. thats what I thought. I will move the rabbit as soon as possible thanks
  11. molly has 6 babies they are just so cute. they have all been fed and it is amazing how fast they are growing. 2 eggs left, I wonder if they will hatch as well. They all looked fertile. quick question, my birds are in the avairy and our rabbit lives in the bottom. I am worried if any of them leave the nest before they are ready and can fly the will end up dinner for the rabbit. My husband is going to be building a hutch for the rabbit but just wondering when he should have it done by and if it isnt finished can I put molly and tommy in the breeding cage with the babies once all hatched. I dont want to stress them out though. Also molly and tommy wont eat vegies, is there anything I can give them instead.
  12. well I thought I was shocked earlier when there was 4 babies. Did my last check for the day and there are 5 I went back to see when first one hatched and it was thursday 30th. So we have 5 in 3 days. They all look well fed and nice and pink. Also very active. I am in shock. Poor molly
  13. have been out to check the last baby had been fed as this morning when I checked it hadnt and there is a new baby. Oh my goodness we have 4 in 4 days!! One I know is a fostered chick and the other quite possibly the other foster. It is amazing how quickly they grow, the first one is so much bigger than the last. I cant wait till they get feathers and I can see what colours they will be.
  14. we have 3 babies woohoo
  15. 2 beautiful babies, nice and healthy and have been fed. I looked for the shell this time and think she has eaten it as I cant find it anywhere. I think this one is the one I fostered in from lolly and pop. I am amazed these eggs are hatching even though she did not sit for 2 days only at night!! :party0011:
  16. okay so silly me!! The egg I thought was cracked was actually sitting inside the broken shell. Drama over
  17. that is so exciting, do I need to check to make sure it is out and if so how long should I leave it? I first noticed it all cracked at 10:30 this morning. Will the checking upset molly? she seems okay so far but I dont know. Any guess on the colours?
  18. okay I have managed to take a couple of quick pics so they arent very good. Can someone tell me what colours I may get from these again. also the other baby is still in the egg but is cracked all the way around. Is this okay or is there a time frame they need to be out of the shell by
  19. Molly is a mum yay I went and checked this morning as I have been getting worried because of when she was out of the nest box all day in the heat. At 6:30 there was nothing no sound or sign that anything was going to hatch. But 4 hours later I checked again and there was a beautiful little baby with white fluff all over it. I cant believe how big it actually is. Even better news another egg was starting to open, had been cracked all the way round and starting to lift up. So I got a double whammy!! I really wanted to wait and watch it hatch but because molly is a first time mum, I thought I better not.
  20. that is excellent news congratulations. I now hope I have the same result with my eggs. 1st due tomorrow I think
  21. oh kaz really? would you mind taking at least 4? do you have room? can I bring now? all is good, molly is in nest box and tommy as well. The weather cooling down seems to have helped. lets hope the rain comes and cools things for a few more days! Thanks for the offer anyway kaz.I will still be interested to see if the eggs end up hatching. After this clutch I am taking the box out and going to give them a rest. By then we should have build a more effective shade for them, Maybe even change position of avairy.
  22. okay, so now I am starting to really worry, as I said before molly is spending a lot of time out of the box, I am going out several times a day and hosing the roof and spraying the birds but am still worried about the time she is off the eggs. There are now 8 eggs altogether and when I candled them 6 were fertile and the 2 newer ones too early to tell. I am starting to think they wont survive. The first one is due to hatch in 6 or 7 days. I will be so upset if it doesnt work and Im even thinking about taking the nest boxes out and wait till next year as it's only going to get hotter. The last clutch of her eggs never hatched and were dis. I have no other pairs down at the moment so cant foster
  23. they are in an avairy out the back against the fence(not colourbond). There is a tree offering some shade the nest boxes dont have ventilation holes, how do I go about this? The eggs are between 10 and 1 days old The birds are bathing themselves
  24. It is so hot/humid here today and my hen has not been sitting in the eggs. Will they still be okay since it is so warm or will they now not be viable. Everytime I go up to the cage she goes back inside but I can see she is very hot. Any suggestions
  25. molly has now laid 6 eggs. I found one of them this morning pushed aside and cold so I brought it inside and candled it. It wasnt fertile. I think it is amazing that the hen can tell this and push it away to focus on the others. So here is hoping the rest of the eggs are all fertile. I will try and candle them later. She is still sitting on the egg I fostered to her I am hoping it hatches and grows up healthy. The pair are I thought blue normals but one of their last babies looked a dilute blue with cinnamon wings. Is that possible?
