What Colour
Thanks for that. I will post some pictures of the last bird today. I think he may be a grey wing. I appreciate your help. I have been breeding budgies most of my life as a hobby but have recently decided to take it further. I have never really taken much notice as a kid about colours, wing colours if it was a spangle or opaline etc but i am now taking notice and finding it very interesting. This site is very informative. Lib

picture's Of New Budgie
What i am asking is this. Can you tell me what you think of the Normal Green cock bird (as far as a potential Show bird is concerned) I scored this blue green boy over Christmas. He is 08 stock. I have owned and bred budgies all my life BUT have never had anything other than pet type. As i love the look of the (English) or show type budgies and in the future was thinking about possibly showing some of my birds (i was intending to buy and breed some show stock), i was wondering is the hen I was thinking of pairing him to okay or a waste of time. The only other big hen i have is another green normal, she is not as big as him and not as buff as the spangle opaline hen but she is still bigger than the pet type. I appreciate your advice. This show budgie thing seems like a whole different ball game but very interesting. Thanks, Lib

What Colour
Hi again, You can tell my kids are occupied. Maybe i have too much time on my hands today. I recently have had 12 chicks fledge and i am curious as to how i would describe them as a few have lighter markings on their wings, some darker etc. Their is a lot of info on this topic but also some conflicting stuff so i am a bit confused. I also have a bird that has a green wash over it's chest feathers, bright yellow underneath it's wings & on back when it's wings are stretched out. Here goes. Hope someone can help. This guy has the green wash (the blue chick next to him is his sister) I pop a couple more of him on. now one of his back next are a couple of his sisters. It's the wing colour Eg: greywing?? that has me curious. This young boy is quite small but i have kept him as he is split to Lutino and is also a golden face so i was hoping to breed him to a bigger hen. What colour would you say he is, he is currently moulting and has green coming through and his lemon is now bright golden buttercup yellow. What should i record him as???? Thanks, Lib

Leg Bands
Hi Guys, Hope everyone had a fantastic Christmas/New years festive season. I have a question about understanding what the info on a legband means. I inherited a beautiful green show budgie that has a legband that says: NSW x8 1518 and is black. Could someone decode this for me. I will attempt to show you some pictures of this boy and his potential breeding mate. Thanks. Lib

What Have I Got
Hi everyone, I am just wondering if anyone had any ideas about the sex of the 2 "DF Dominant Pieds" that are in the pictures i posted. The yellow one is the most interesting being half blue & half pink. I was also wondering if anyone could identify the colouring of the young bird in the first picture for me, i need to record it's colouring but have never had a bird this colour before. Is it in the mauve or blues and would it be considered a clear wing (heavily marked). The cock is a GF Olive green/blue normal and the hen is Lutino. Please help !!!! Thanks Lib

What Have I Got
Could you tell me if they are male or female and what the distinguishing features are of a DF over a SF Dominent Pied. Are you also able to tell me what colour the bird is in the first photo. I have only just started to breed other colours and am unsure of what i would record it as. Is it yellow face violet or blue. As i said before it parents are lutino hen & yellow face dk green/blue normal.

What Have I Got
Your first one sounds like a double factor dominant pied................in all cases though PHOTOS help a lot. Please post pictures if you want an accurate diagnosis Hi Kaz, i posted some pics for you to look at but i'm not sure if i did it the right way. Thanks, Lib

What Have I Got
- What Have I Got
Hi Guys, I have 2 birds that i am confused about. The first one i caught one morning when it flew in to have a chat. It (i have no idea of it's sex) is yellow with a few bar lines in it's head going from one eye to the other, it has a white ring in it's eye and is a clear wing. The thing thst is confusing me is it's cere is pink with bright blue between it's nostrils almost like someone has painted it on with a paint brush. Any ideas! The second one i think is a dominant pied. He is white with minimal baring on his head and the white spot on the back of his head, white ring in his eye, black markings in the top 1/4 of his wings a blue patch on his back between his wings and a small amount of blue just above his legs in a thin line. It's cere is pinky brown but very smooth with the tiniest hint of blue sheen between it's nostrils that is only noticable if the sun shines in the right direction. I have tried pairing it off with a sky blue opaline hen but as yet no results. If he is with other males he tries to mount them but with hens he shows no interest, so it is an unusaul bird. Again any ideas!- Nutrition & Record Keeping
Hi everyone, just a quick couple of questions. Can someone give me an idea on what fresh fruit & veg I can give my budgies and also a list of what not to give them. The other question I have is, I want to start keeping records on my budgies and am trying to find out where to purchase leg bands and other record keeping items from, I'm located in the Southern Highlands in Sydney. Can anybody help me? Thanks, Lib- Please Help!
Hi Liv, Maybe it was just plain luck that none of his budgies died of the fumes. I have managed to get a couple of photo's from through the bars of the cage but I may have to get some better ones I just have to find my cable now to upload the photo's (always something). Can you tell me the easiest way to upload the pictures. I also have some photo's of my other birds and was wondering if someone could tell me the right names for the colours and the wing feathers as well. Thanks, Lib- Please Help!
Hi! Sorry it took me a while to work out how to respond to you. Thanks for the pictures, this look a bit different again as I said it is only on the cere. When i caught her today i had a close look and up close it is very warty in appearance(like a rough surface) and is projected as much as the hen in the first picture. I did try to get some photo's but my camera won't zoom in close enough to see what i am talking about. In the mean time unless someone has an idea (i even thought kanka-unsure if that is how you spell it!) i'm going to try something my AG teacher at school used to do and it usually worked (he had about 1000 budgies) and i know it might sound strange or maybe you might of already heard of this before and that is treat it with straight DETOL on a cotton bud. I have seen kanka totally gone within a week from this treatment. Your all probably laughing but it is worth a try. As i said if anyone has any further suggestions of the disease and which medication to use - great!!!!! As soon as i have some photo's of my birds i load them up. Thanks guys, Lib- Please Help!
Hi my name is Libby, I am new to this site but have been watching and reading for some time. I have a possible problem with one of my hens that I thought someone may have an idea about what it could possibly be. On the cere of this hen she has what appears to be enlarging (sort of scaley in appearance) of the cere, I thought it may be a mite problem but she doesn't have any of the other symptoms like raised feathers around the edge of her beak. Today she has had a bit of bleeding on her beak and it seems as though bits of it fall off every now and then. I do remember seeing this on her before but until now have just ignored it, none of the other birds with her have any problems. Do you have any thoughts? Libby :hap: - What Have I Got
