  1. Hi all, Am terribly sorry for not replying sooner. Just been so busy. I mean moody as, one minute she will let me scratch her and one minute she won't or sometimes she gets scared of my hand being in her cage even when I'm not doing anything differently. IE. Moving my hand slowly toward her. Sometimes when I go to scratch her, she will open her beak like she's about to bite me but she won't. Anyways, I have made a little more progress with her. I had her on my desk just yesterday and she was happy to sit next to me. I had her cage in another room as I was half way through cleaning it and I read that someone tried the trick of moving the cage away from the normal spot as their Budgie kept flying back to it's cage. ANYWAYS... I stopped cleaning her cage as I went to answer the phone. I sat down at my Computer desk and Lambchop came up to me, climbed onto my hand and then up my arm and sat on my shoulder. It was soo nice. I was trying not to jump up and down with glee! I also found a Vegie she likes.. Silverbeet! She can't get enough of it! lol. Clinton even steams her a little bit everytime we have it hehehe. I had her sitting on my finger the night before and was feeding the Silverbeet to her. I had to do something so I put Lambchop on my shoulder and the Silverbeet in front of her. She was happy sitting there eating it lol. Another thing: Everytime either Clinton or I play a video on Youtube, whether it be someone talking or Music, Lambchop goes off! Dosen't matter what it is!! lol. Dosen't have to be a Video either. It can be Music from my mp3 collection lol. She was sitting on my shoulder the other night talking away lol. Sounds funny. Ohhh and yet another thing lol, It's like she's only just discovering everything that's in her cage! She has a seed stick which apparently has bits of apple and is stuck together with a Honey compound or something to that effect! There was one that sat in her cage for AGES!! She's only just started eating them! She would rather eat that, than the seed which is in the tray down the bottom of her cage. The last couple of nights aswell, she's decided to start sleeping on her little swing. It's been in there ever since she was brought home lol. It's strange, all of a sudden she's being more and more open to trying new things. Makes me so happy to know that she is coming out of shell and she is slowly bonding to me. Can they learn their own names? Or just the pitch in which you say it?
  2. I have had Lambchop now for a bit over 6 weeks now, she seems happy enough and she will let me take her out of her cage with no dramas, she will still eat from my hand from time to time and she will even let me scratch her around the head. Sometimes she gets a little stroppy with me, is it normal for a Budgie to be moody? :hap: My question is: Whenever I take her out of her cage she will just sit wherever she chooses and not do anything. Is this normal? She's got plenty of toys she can play with and I have even tried playing with her. She's got those balls with bells in them but when I try to encourage her to grab it, she just wants to climb on it to sit there. Also, I have tried introducing steamed vegies into her diet aswell, although she will eat them from my hand. I read someone's suggestion on putting some seed on the vegies and she will get the hint but the cheeky thing ate all the seed and left her greens. I have a cuttlefish bone in her cage and she won't touch that either. Am I doing something wrong? Perhaps she needs a new friend in her cage with her? I was looking into getting a friend for her a little while ago but things were really up in the air. Things have settled down now, so I am starting to look into getting another friend for her again. So if there were any breeders here in Perth who could let me know if they have any babies they were willing to sell to me? Thanks.
  3. Yeah it is. I'm so happy. She's not OVERLY friendly but she will sit on your finger or on your shoulder. Is it a good sign when she is sitting on my finger and starts to groom herself and carry on? Also, how do I get her to eat more than just seed? I can't seem to get her to eat the vegies I put in her cage. She also picks and chooses when she wants to eat out of my hand aswell.
  4. Im so proud of my little Lambchop. I gave her some Millet just now and she ate it from my hand! I let her out the cage all the time now aswell. When she gets stuck I will come over and put my hand in front of her and she will hop straight on. I feel all warm and fuzzy inside

  7. Yeah it is really noticable. She seems happy enough but I will take her to the vet just in case. Thanks. U was wondering if I was to get another tame Budgie for a friend for Lambchop would it make the other budgie "wild" again? She seems so lonely by herself. Whenever we bring Olive in she is always chatting to her and carrying on.
  8. Yesterday was the time to clean out her cage. She was terrified of me grabbing her toys out of the cage to clean them. So I got Clinton to grab her and put her in a box while I did my thing. I went out the back and found an old stick which works perfect as a perch for her. I also got her a few new things like a Cuttlefish bone, a seed bell, a new swing with a bell on and another new toy which is like a babies toy. After I finished cleaning out her cage I got Clinton to hold her while I clipped her wings. After doing that back in her cage she went. She tried to fly around because I am guessing she didn't know what the new things were. I also moved her next to where I spend most of time which is in front of my Computer. (I study Graphic Design so most of my stuff is Homework) She seems a lot happier here now. She's next to a window which is opened regularly and she calls out a lot more too. I gave her a leaf of lettuce last night and she gobbled right into that hehehe. My only question's are at this time though: 1. Is it normal for budgies to poo a lot? I can't believe the amount of poo that is in the bottom of the cage now. 2. I noticed a day after bringing her home that her tail seems to "tick" like a second hand on a clock? Is that normal? It seems to be linked to her heartbeat.
  9. Yeah I think there is some gone. I actually pulled some seeds off the stem and it looks like that she's eaten some. When I put my hand in there today she was all flighty again. Think im back to square one again *sigh*
  10. umm, im not actually sure. I gave her some in a little shallow dish before I went to School and by the time I came home she had knocked it over so I have no idea. She eats seed that I put in there. Quite a lot actually lol. So does that mean anything?
  11. Thanks It's funny though, she will sit on my finger but she won't take millet from me. Will keep trying though.
  12. WE HAVE SUCCESS!! I finally got Lambchop to sit on my finger. Took her a bit to realise she was, then she calmed down. YAY! I brought Olive inside near her cage and I was playing with her and had on my hand, so I think that might have helped the process too.
  13. Thanks for everything. I finally decided on a name for her. Lambchop, it's kind of an ongoing joke between my Partner and I . I bought some Millet just tonight, so when I come home from tafe I will try her with it. Any suggestions on what to do with it? Do I just put it in my hand and wait for her to come to me? (If she wants to?) I think she is beginning to trust me, when I put my hand in her cage, she was all sleepy like and didn't really seem to have any issues with my hand about half an inch away from her, I also heard her making the grinding beak sound. Is that a good sign? Hahaha. This is my first Budgie. So I am still really unsure of everything.
  14. Thanks for all the replies :hap: I think I'm making progress with her. I had my hand right up near her and she flinched a little, she didn't move. I started talking to her and she was closing her eyes and yawning lol. She also puffed the feathers up and had a shake. Libby, thanks for the offer, might take you up on it one day :hap:. But yeah I do live NOR. All the way up in Joondalup haha.
  15. I was actually thinking the same thing lol. Here is a better picture: My hand is the closest it's ever been to her/him too :budgiedance:. Is it hard to teach budgies to talk too? My other half Clinton, wants to teach it lol. He reckons that Male Budgies talk better than Females.
  16. Awe thanks for the lovely reply :budgiedance: I just put my hand in there again and he didn't really flinch. He was looking at my hand a lot too. I slowly brought it a little closer to him and he didn't fly away.... He trilling again just now and I found him eating his seed. Something I was wondering if he was doing or not. I'm so happy! I'm tossing up names for him now, Jingles, Petey, Paulie, Charlie or I might just stay with Pretty boy coz he is
  17. Well, he is starting to be a lot more noisier than he was yesterday. My other half Clinton has a Green, yellow olive Lorikeet named Olive and she's adorable. The Budgie seems to respond to her a lot too. Will see how we go with it. I really hope it will be okay, the last thing I want is to scare it to death. Thanks for all the replies :budgiedance:
  18. Thanks for the response. I just put my hand in there for a bit just now I was looking at "him" now I'm not so sure if it's a him or her lol. And yeah, S/he always stands like that. I didn't notice it before. Hmmm, a bit worried now. Andrew, this is my first Budgie so I'm not quite sure what I'm doing wrong or right yet...
  19. As the topic says, I am new. I have a new baby Budgie and I'm not quite sure what to call him yet. I have been reading up on different tips and tricks for training budgies. My question is, how do you go about making him tame? I brought him home yesterday and he is still really jittery. Everytime I walk past his cage I say hello to him in a low tone. He does seem a little happier now, he's trilling a lot more than yesterday and he was having a good old conversation with himself lastnight aswell . I saw that you shouldn't put mirrors in the cage with a lone budgie so I am going to attempt to take it out soon. Any extra help will be appreciated Here is a picture of him.
