Grey Budgies
Hi Im having trouble with grey budgies. I have read that grey chicks can be bred from 2 blues, but grey cannot be split, so how is this possible? I thought grey was an adding factor that goes over the previous mutation, eg: Grey turns a green into a grey green Grey turns a blue into a grey Am I wrong? How does grey work? Any articles or information is greatly appreciated.

Is the green hen a bush budgie? Are you going to breed them? They are both very good Nevermind I didnt see the other text. Hen looks to be a light green opaline and the cock looks like a mauve?? normal.

I Have 8 Hens, But All My Boys Like Only One Hen... Why ?
I have read that if you have breeding cages inside the avairy the birds in the cages will be focused on trying to get out with the other birds and they wont breed.

Yes thats how I breed my birds, they will have far less problems this way. Are their hens in the avairy with the cocks? Maybe the cocks are mating with the doves because their are no hens in the avairy.

Colony breeding is when more than 1 pair of birds is breeding in the same cage/avairy (thats my definition anyway) You should have 2 nest box for each one hen, all nest box should be the same height (this prevents hens fighting for the higher nest box) How many hens are their? The other hens may not have any places to lay so they dont mate.

I have read articles that say hens shouldnt be bred over 3 years of age, maybe they are too old? Are you colony breeding?

Thankyou Jimmy. I will do a big update with no pictures now. Summer and chompers first clutch are all out in the avairy now, all 2 - 3 months old. They are all moulting and their colours are changing. I will take new pictures tomorow. Chomper sadly had a heart problem or a stroke about a month ago and he died. Summer flew into the cage wall and broke her neck 3 days ago and she also died. Chomper and summers second clutch are going very well. 3 of them are eating on their own now and 1 I still have to handfeed. Their is even a light green opaline budgie in the bunch which I have never had from this pair before. Neon and thunders first clutch babies are not doing so well. The 2 eldest have french moult and look to be getting other health issues. Their beaks are growing very fast and they eat very little. A vet told me they are fine and will regrow all their feathers but I cant say I beleive him. The youngest is not french moult and she is having a blast in the avairy, she is the only bird in the avairy at the moment that will fly at me and sit on my shoulder when I go in, sadly she will become untame soon. Neon and thunders second clutch are going well. She has 4 babies which I fostered all to sumo and bullet, to give neon a rest. Bull and bullets first clutch are all doing very well. Their are only 2 babies directly related to bull and bullet but the other 4 are fostered in from neon and thunders nest. Bull and bullets babies look to be grey which I didnt think was possible from a blue to blue paring, one even looks yellowface. Basically everything is going well and I will continue to update this thread. Thankyou for your time.

Post Pictures: Of Your Dogs
I have one dog called ruby (female). I got her for a birthday present 11 years ago. Here she is. She barks at anything that walks past the front fence so we have not had a robbery YET. She is the smartest dog I've ever seen, she can open doors, fetch, sit, ly down, handshake etc etc. I do not know what I would do without her.

Tonight I went out to the breeding room because I heard a loud noise. I opened the door to find summer dead on the cage floor with a broken neck. Sadly I beleive she had a night fright and flew straight into the cage wall.

The "angry Noise"
My females make the same noise if I put my hand in the nesting box.
