Today I went in the aviary and it was like the birds have never been fed in their lives. they all piled the food dishes eating and making so much mess. Seed was flying everywhere. It started with a few Then more Then more More than a quarter of the aviary birds were eating at the same time Birds in flight
  6. I would have said recessive pied spangle but I have a feeling it is somthing more confusing. Its got a lot of green on its rump, I definitly think its a pied of some sort. Taking a guess and saying banded pied.
  7. Thanks very much Kaz. Freckles day 1, with red eyes I also forgot to mention that all photos will be taken with the same background in the same box, this way you can get a feel for how fast the chicks actually grow. This was suggested by a forum member. Day two will be posted in about 30 minutes.
  8. Hi. Recently I did a thread with Tiny, it only lasted 21 days and I got really busy with work and I stopped taking photos. For old times sake here is tiny at 52 days old, in the aviary. I am going to start a new journal day 1 - 42, this time I intend to complete it. Here are the parents - Father Mother
  9. I have just read this Kaz and I cannot believe it. Honestly it just sucks.
  10. Personally I would not take it to that extreme. At the very most I would quarantine for 90 days, seperate rooms. I personally would not allow them to fly around in the same area, and I always wash my hands after touching a bird, quarantine or not. I would not change clothes, if I did I would go through 50 sets of clothes each day. I wouldnt worry about the seed box or anything. But I do not allow quarantined birds to switch cages, Mites and other diseases can stay dormant in the cages, I always wash the cage thouroughly with disinfectant before putting new birds in a cage. What I do is - 40 day seperate areas. Treated for a few things - Worms and mites are the main 2. The birds never come in contact with any other birds.
  11. It was an excellent game. I was washing the car today and abut 10 wasps came flying out under the bonet. I was stung a fair few times and I started getting a big rash and puffing up so I ended up going to the doctors. With many wasp stings it is common to get the symptoms I had. I learnt something new today.
  12. Depends what food. Egg I dont leave in their longer than 2 hours but corn on the cob or greens can stay for about 5 hours in my breeding cages.
  13. 50 dollars Shannon me and a work mate had a little bet.Queensland have had an excellent start, I am very confident at this point.its looking very good for me at this point Shannon

The flower will be ready in about 2 weeks I will get a picture. Its mainly the cockatiels and dove that eat the seeds but some of the budgies do try some.

thankyou all. The flower will be fed to the birds, full of sunflower seeds, they love them.

  20. Yes he is called freckles.
  21. I stopped breeding for about 3 weeks, re did the aviary and breeding room. Put a screen door on the aviary as suggested by a forum member. I have decided to only breed 3 pairs of budgies at a time. - Less stress on me - Less expense - Less problems - You still get the same feeling of enjoyment, no matter how many birds you have breeding. So I have 3 pairs at the moment 1 pair has 2 babies Mother Father
  22. I wouldnt feed that seed but in the end its up to you. I wouldnt do it because Its got alot of those vegetable things in it which could be full of preservatives and all that junk. Its got sunflower seeds in their which I dont feed every day as it makes the birds overweight. I dont need all that junk in the mix because my birds eat their vegetables, all birds can be taught to eat vegetables. As Kaz said keep trying eventually they will take a bite.
