Fighting, Egg Eating And Mice In Nest Boxes
Dont steer away from colony breeding just yet. It can be harder, but in my opinion it is more rewarding. Have double the amount of nest boxes per hen. I like to have nest boxes 3 foot apart, same height, different entry points. The mice is your main problem at this point, get rid of the mice and all you have left is fighting budgies. Remove the perpetrator, for a few weeks, put her back. If problem continues, sell her. I've started colony breeding again and so far have 5 nests of babies, no problems have yet to occur. Problems will occur in the future, but I will be able to control them.

I Can Breed With Young Budgie
Kaz and Neat, you guys are geniuses WHAT is the POINT of having budgies if you arent going to give them the quality of life they deserve.. there is NO reason why you should be taken care of all well and be it top-notch health when your bird cant have the same happiness. its simple and plain..DONT breed budgies at a young age.... P.S i know its no good to have budgies colony breeding (as birds do breed young) ever since i joined this forum because, like kaz sai, its the best budgie forum in the world, and i intend to remove nests asap from the cage... The part about colony breeding is not true at all. Common sense would tell me that any budgies under the age of 1 years are in a separate aviary, away from all boxes.

What's This On Her Leg?
that happens sometimes, just have a pair of ring cutters or side cutters on hand and you wont have a problem.
-
What's This On Her Leg?
Side cutters are designed to cut metal.

You can buy ring cutters from show tables. If the ring is cutting off the circulation that bad, you may have to see a vet. Depending on how much room their is, you could use side cutters. Ive used side cutters many times to cut the rings, but mine have never cut off circulation. Be carefull you dont chop the birds foot off.

3 aviary pairs have chicks and I believe I know the parentage. Some of the chicks are almost ready to leave the nests.

Chickens
Personally I would not do it just because the size difference and the big beaks on chickens. And they make a huge mess.

I've personally never tried it. I guess you never know until you try.

I have a yellowface cinnamon grey opaline hen. She is 4 years old and I've been trying to breed her for 2 years. As soon as I start trying to colony breed she lays an egg, which she has never done before.

Absolute Disaster!
Genericblue's setup is very good and very simple, its exactly like what I had.
-
Are These A Good Pair?
The male looks like a pied and the female looks like a double factor spangle. Need a close up of eyes to be sure, especially colour. If I am correct then you will not get any albino babies unless the father is split for ino.

Introducing My New Rat Babies...
Very nice, I love the white patch on the first one. Are you able to tame them like you can with budgies? Are they a fairly placid sort of animal and love to be petted?
