  2. Hi all,i was reading in the FAQ section regarding safe plants/branches but as i am not sure what this is called i dont if it is safe or not. I looks like a sort of eucalypt/gum.I was going to use it as a perch for booga. If so do i strip the leaves and nuts off or can she eat these?? and what is the best way to clean it??? thanks
  3. hello....is it safe to say that booga is a girl??? my partner says he always thought booga was as her personality matched mine especially when shes grumpy....dont on earth know why hahaha!!! booga has been rather nasty to him lately anyway thanks for everyones replies
  4. thanks liv i have reposted in the other topic...i wait and see what everyone else thinks.
  5. Hi all, in previous posts my little Booga was said to be a boy. But in a post yesterday regarding booga having his first moult "liv" suggested that Booga may in fact be a girl and recommended i repost the photos here for other opinions. Booga is 15 weeks old. thanks
  6. do you think???? hehe!!! should i repost in the "what sex is my budgie" to get another vote???? as you guys are the experts should i be calling booga a she? thats funny..i not want to give booga a gender complex hahaha!! maybe thats why booga's so cranky....PMS!!! hehehe!!!! at what age is the sex (cere colour) definate. Booga is 15 weeks and those photos were taken last week.
  7. hi guys, my little booga is almost 4 months old and i am assuming is starting his first moult. These are some recent photos of him with what i am assuming are new feathers coming through on his head????. He has become really grumpy which i have read is common when budgies moult, but his poos have also changed. his diet has been the same..he gets trill budgie mix with vegetables and grains but isnt really enthusiastic about fresh friut and vegies yet. his poos vary from nice little dark poos with the white dot in the middle to pale green poos which are quite watery. i am a bit concerned with the amount of liquid present.it seems to be only tiny amount of solid to a larger ring of liquid around the edge once on the paper.there is no white???. He is chirping and playing as normal but have noticed he is eating like a little piglet..He seems to be constantly at his food..he is eating as there are empty husks...Im just not sure if this is moulting related or something else. As i have said he is extremely grumpy and is not liking being handled at the moment..i guess im just looking for some reassurance that this is normal moulting symptoms otherwise i will take him to the vet..any opinions would be appreciated also i have heard some of you mention a product "moult aid" or silimar??? should i be using a product of this sort at the moment and if so can i get it from a petshop or the vet??? Is it like a multivitamin suppliment for budgies????? thanks in advance for any advice
  8. thanks everyone for your replies..sorry to have caused such a kufuffle hehe!! I have read "jodies" previous posts re guinea pigs so thought since some offered her advice that you have guinea pigs or have had them in the past i would ask. thanks "Una" for the link i will investigate and maesie i wasnt offended..just baffled as i wasnt asking for health ect. advice i just thought maybe someone in my area new where to get one from.. thanks guys...
  9. thanks for your help Elly
  10. Oh sorry... I thought that since other members had posted about thier guinea pigs I would ask..I cant find the clarification list on what is classified as "off topic" so didn't think it would be a problem.
  11. Hello im looking into getting a guinea pig and wondering if anyone knows of a breeder in the Perth Metro area?? Ive have been looking in local pet shops but am assuming its better to purchase direct from a breeder...is this a better option than a petshop purchase?? any info would be great..thanks
  12. thanks for the reassurance guys...it is just very disheartning because it has been a week since he has been clipped and he must think i am going to take him out of his cage when i go near him so he cowers away from me i will keep trying and see how he goes...thanks again
  13. hi all, booga is 8 weeks old and has been with me for 2 weeks now. i handled him in the aviary so when he came home he was very comfortable with me. he let me hold him and take him out of his cage where he would have a fly and explore and walk up and down my arms. last week we had to go to the vet because he hurt his foot and while there i got the vet to clip his wings to make it easier to get him back to his cage. this last week however things have been slowly deteriorating.the first time out of his cage after the wing clip he wasnt quite sure and didnt really wander around that much after he realised he couldnt fly.it has now come to the point when he wont come out of the cage unless i actually take him out and even then i can tell he is stressed..this has now affected him inside the cage and his bond with me. while he will eat millet when offered to him by hand the moment i go near him with my hand without the millet he shrinks into himself and freezes i am very sad about this.... i know it is only early days but he went from being a very confident little budgie to a very scared little budgie and the only thing i can put it down 2 is that hes not happy with not being able to fly ( i suppose he feels very vulnerable as he would if he couldnt fly in the wild)..has anyone else experienced this behaviour???? i somehow feel responsible now and guilty and that he is somehow blaming me ...i have read in the FAQS that his wings will grow back in with his first molt??? this is still a few weeks away and i feel i am losing valuable time to train. i have been reading the taming article in FAQS but am worried that if it is his wings that are bothering him he wont be happy until they grow back therefore i will lose the bond altogether by the time this happens..can anyone offer any tips to help???? i try my hand in the cage a few times during the day but only for minutes at a time as i dont want to over stress him..perseverence is probably the key but i still cant help feel guilty that i am the cause of his stress
  14. thanks for your replies elly and neat..
  15. hi all,i was just curious as to the sleeping arrangements of your inside pet budgies especially those of you who do shift work if any. i do shift work that varies each week.this week i leave at around 230pm and dont get home till about 1130-12pm.i live in a 2 bedroom 1 bathroom/laundry apartment with open living area and kitchen so i put Booga to "bed" in the spare room just before i leave. as he is only 8 weeks old i cover 3 sides of his cage with a sheet so he feels secure. the bathroom is opposite so i close the spare room door so as not to disturb him when i get home. apart from not being able to say hello when i get home i worrry that hes lonely in there on his own but i know it for the best to keep him in cycle with the sun. he normally wakes me up at about 630am with his chirping so i get up uncover him and bring him either into my room or the living area. next week i will be leaving the house around 930am and be home around 630 7pm. technically i wont see him all day . does anyone keep thier budgies up past thier bedtime??? im not sure of the best thing to do for him??? i dont want to disturb his sleep patterns as he came straight from an outdoor aviary to me so he is used to sleeping and waking with the sun but i miss saying hello and "checking" on him when i get home. i have had him for a week and half now and have been on night shift so have been able to spend a good amount of time with him in the mornings and training him (we have almost got "step up" ) i am worried as to what will happen next week where i may only get an hour in the morning. i usually leave a lamp on in the living area for me if i am late home but was thinking if i left him out there even with a sheet covering him the artificial light might "mess" up his sleeping and also the noise of me coming in may startle him.. sorry i have written an essay but would appreciate anyone thoughts on this
  16. he hasnt been wormed but we have had a trip to the vet already and the vet did a health check including his poo for parasites and it was clear. should i worm him anyway???
  17. hi all, just a quick question to put my mind at ease...my little Booga came home with me last saturday and is 7 weeks old. he came to me a fat little chubba chub but now he seems to have lost quite a bit of weight (i can feel his breastbone but its not over prominant (or should i not feel it all ))..i have watched him closely eat to make sure he not just playing with the seed but the empty husks are evident..i have tried feeding him mashed egg mixed with broccolli and sprinkled seed on top and through it but he just picks the seed out..i have also tried grated apple and seed thinking that the sweet apple may entice him but to no avail...is it early days to expect him to eat different foods??? is it that mum is no longer feeding him so often and its normal to lose a bit of weight??? should i be concerned at this point or give it more time??? he is very active and is out of the cage exploring for most of the time while im home so maybe thats what it is..he is showing no signs of ill health so maybe im worrying for nothing?????? I am new at the whole baby budgie thing so any advice is welcome..thanks
  18. thanks very much for your help Elly
  19. the cere is a noticeable blue and pretty much even all over...at what age is the colour definate???? ive been referring to booga as a he so hopefully he is hehe!!! another quick question is that since hes had his wings clipped he stands very upright on his perch, is this a balance issue???? his tail almost points straight down which wasnt the case before the wing clip. is he just adjusting maybe??? thanks everyone for thier replies and advice..it is most welcome
  20. here are some pics of booga's cere..hope they are clear enough
  21. Hi guys, some of u you may remember these little guys...... well its now 7 weeks later and i would like to introduce you to Booga.... S/He came home with me on saturday. I had been handling Booga in the aviary so S/he is very tame already. Having had him only 2 days we had our first visit to the vet today. I popped out to the shop early thismorning and when i got home Booga was smeared with blood and the newspaper at the bottom of the cage looked like texas chainsaw massacre :budgiedance: poor Booga's little leg and foot didnt look good at all..i got the cornflour out and rang the vet as i was not sure the extent of damage...we managed to get straight into see the wonderful Mr Ray Butler and once he had cleaned away the blood Booga had managed to get one of his nails caught on something and it needed to be cauterised to stop the beeding..we were not sure how he managed to do it as his cage and toys were "cleared" by Ray as safe :budgiedance: he had been going to town on the newspaper so maybe thats what it was....anyway by late thisafternoon Booga was almost back to normal...i think i was more stressed than Booga While i was there Ray clipped Boogas wings also which i dont think H/she is very impressed about when i let booga out this arvo and he realised he couldnt fly properly he kind of gave me this look as if to say what happened hehe!!! anyway hopefully all will go well from now on. before i go can someone tell me what age a budgie is to be able to tell the sex????? at the moment Booga's cere is an even blue colour and i assumed it was a boy but Ray had said it too early to tell.. im sure i will be asking lots more questions in the weeks to come as its been a while since ive had a baby budgie. thanks
