Keeping Your Branches Fresh
The thing about keeping the lid on is that it minimizes evaporation so the branch stays fresher longer.

Keeping Your Branches Fresh
Another couple of obvious tips: 1. Don't buy pails with tight fitting lids, you want to be able to top up with water in the aviary with minimum fuss - if the lid is stuck on tight, it's a real hassle! 2. DO tie your branches to either a perch or the aviary mesh, you don't want the branch falling over and the weight of it spilling all the water everywhere. Some examples: I used an elastic tie for this one I used the wire attachment from a drinker for this one A piece of twine to the perch for this one

Pairing In The Breeding Cabinet
Believe me, you will never get used to it - it's too annoying, exasperating, frustrating ....!

Keeping Your Branches Fresh
Just an obvious tip: Check your bucket regularly! I was amazed that the branch we cut down 2 days ago has drunk 1/2 bucket of water!!! Also, if you have access to Seasol (liquid sea weed fertilizer), it doesn't hurt to add a splash.

What Items/medications Should I Ask For From The Vet
You call direct and ask to become a registered client. 02 9871 7113 / 5156 In my case I was asked to give a reference so I gave the name of the President of my Budgie Club, who I knew used his products, the vet put me on hold and rang him to check I was fair dinkum. For those of you who have joined clubs and receive the magazine, check in the members' directory and ring around till you find someone who uses the products and is willing to sponsor you. Or maybe it won't be so complicated ... just make the call and play it by ear.

Aviary Base
Well the sand was delivered late this morning: I chose white washed sand because that's what they use for sand pits- if it's good enough for little kiddies, it's good enough for my darlings! We dumped bucketfuls and then evened it out with a broom and rake, making sure the sand covered the lime by 3-4 cms. All done - but there's something missing ....? Oh yes, here they are!

Keeping Your Branches Fresh
Good idea! I shall give it a go. :bump: And one sacrificial sock later: Problem solvered!

Wet Patches Under The Drinker
So I was admiring my aviary this morning ahead of laying the sand (delivery any minute now!) when I noticed a wet patch under the guinea pig drinker :bump: Here's what I've done to fix it: Take 2 plastic containers and glue them together & then drill holes in the side about 1 cm down from the lip and thread through a piece of cord: Attach to aviary below drinker: SO simple! I'm hoping that the excess drips will fall into the container and the birds will drink from that too. Now, if I find the budgies are pooing in it as they drink I will attach the lid and drill a hole right under the trajectory of the drip.
