Megabacteria
I have lots of birds so I have decided to go with fungilin in the water. I get it from Rob Marshall and the dosage is 1ml/100ml. I change it every day and the recommended treatment time is 7 days although I may do it for a bit longer, say 10 days. You can treat all birds from fledglings upwards, not for the breeding cabinets though. Dave, I keep away from open water dishes in the aviaries, they're such a prime source of bacterial growth.

Megabacteria
Since reading this article I have commenced treatment on all my birds. And I'm going to repeat treatment in a couple of months. This is a nasty disease and we should all do everything to try and eradicate it.

Joint Breeding
okay, update from my end. The Lutino hen and Olive cock have 2 fosters which they're raising wonderfully. I felt a bit bad because the pairings I've had haven't done much so I've rung the 2 fosters with Kaz's rings. They are good chicks from a Ces Gearing Violet cock bird and Gary Armstrong Recessive Pied hen ( Ces and Gary are 2 of the best breeders in WA, if not Australia). Understandably Kaz is more than happy! The Violet hen and Greygreen Spangle cock bird have gone down again and the hen is sitting on 3 eggs but as yet they look clear.

Wheatgrass
I bought some wheatgrass in powder form and put a tablespoon in the soft food daily. I haven't noticed any ill effects.

Watch Out Wa - I'm Coming To Perth!
Yep, we're all looking forward to it! Just so you know Liv, we are hoping you can find a free afternoon to come and visit Libby's and my place so we can meet you and show you our birds!!!!

Water Bottles Vs Water Dishes
Never tried the type you're talking about. BUT I fixed the issue of dripping drinkers by attaching a plastic dish to the side of the aviary to catch all drips- works a treat!

Yellow Face Mutant 1 Australian
Aha! Thanks MB. How would theCinnamon wing and Opaline manifest itself?

Yellow Face Mutant 1 Australian
okay, I've been doing a bit of research and thanks to an article Daz sent me about Yellow Faces. So, please correct me if I'm wrong: Am I correct in assuming that Australian Yellow Face Mutant 1 are SINGLE Factor yellow faces? If I were to breed a Cinnamon wing Y/F Australian 1 cock to an Opaline Y/F Australian 1, what would be the outcome? Would I get any Yellow Face in the chicks? (single factor to single factor = double factor????) All comments appreciated.

Nesting Boxes
The top breeders in Germany and the UK use plastic. But as Kaz said, size is paramount.

Joint Breeding
okay. Recap: at this end I started with 3 pairs but one of my hens (probably the sister to the horrid Violet ) didn't like Kaz's magnificent Recessive Pied, so he went home. So I was left with 2 pairs: Violet & Spangle laid 4 fertile eggs, first chick died-not fed; second chick quickly transferred to a foster nest and doing well; third chick died - not fed; fourth chick didn't have a chance to hatch as Violet chucked the egg out. Lutino & Olive have laid 8 eggs to date and while I thought 3 were fertile I can only see 1 definitely fertile egg. Maybe something will show through - HUH! :yuck: Nothing's happening with the Lutino and Olive, the eggs that looked promising have developed a ring inside, so my guess is they're addled. I have popped 2 foster chicks in with them and they're doing a wonderful job of feeding them. Here's hoping raising a round will bear fruits - you never know it did with my best Lutinos.

Breeding in Ken's Aviary
- Breeding in Ken's Aviary
That is the lutino version of a princess parrot. red eyes but both yellow and pink on the body I love this post. It's so tempting to build an aviary like Kens' - but we do not have the room. I could see myself getting Lovebirds and Princess Parrots .... Luckily I can live vicariously through this thread- An Update On My Chick With Issues
MB you get huge kudos for effort! Let's hope the little chickie comes good! Are you still giving a drop of calcium to the beak daily?- Once A Day Top Up With Handrearing Mix As Standard Procedure-
Don't know about that, I keep it in the fridge with no problems.- Someone Shoot Me Now!-
Noooooooo! What did I say, IT IS ALWAYS THE BEST ONES THAT GIVE US THE MOST GRIEF!!!!- Once A Day Top Up With Handrearing Mix As Standard Procedure-
Sounds like your standard mix. BUT egg powder IS a fantastic source of protein and I recommend it to everyone.- Someone Shoot Me Now!-
Well that sucks. Good Luck!- Someone Shoot Me Now!-
Hey MB, I feel for you. If it's not one bloody thing, it's another - BUT when things do work out it's wonderful! :parrot: I agree with Kaz, it seems you have some issues with this nest - or at least this chick in particular. Try fostering it to another nest if you can, maybe it's a nutritional thing, but do keep up the calcium whatever you do.- Budgie Pair Not Creating Family
Glad it's working out for you- Fingers crossed! :parrot:- Show Birds In The Making I Hope Or Stock Birds
LOVE THE BIRDS- CONGRATULATIONS!!! :happy-dancing:- Could Someone Share A Photo Please-
Not too much, I pulled both from the nest box to photo.- Could Someone Share A Photo Please-
Good news that they're hens! I'm sure Kaz has much better photos (we all know I am 'challenged' when it comes to happy snapping! :bump: ) But here's a couple I have on file:- Keeping Your Aviary Cool
This picture is so pretty, I can just imagine how nice it would be to just sit next to them with a cuppa and watch their antics! I'd love to have a nice "open plan" set up like this one day!Thank you very much! Actually that is exactly what my hubby and I do. We always remove the chair when I take pics so it doesn't clutter up the photo. :bump:- Keeping Your Aviary Cool
Yes, my belief in doing the right thing has been rewarded in this case. There was a point when I thought it wouldn't come through and my exasperation was palpable, as I said to the Water Corp rep, "I think I might be one of the few people who has actually contacted you for approval PRIOR to installing a system!" But in truth I don't think that was important to them. Whatever the reasons for their reconsideration of the original proposal, I am deeply grateful and relieved. I have lost a number of budgies to heat-stress before and it's not an experience I wish to revisit. So Hip Hip Horay! :bump:- Keeping Your Aviary Cool
It's taken a little while, but after quite a few telephone calls and to-ing and fro-ing I've finally received a verbal approval from the Water Corp to water the aviaries as needed in the heated 35C+ days. Written confirmation should be coming in the post and once I receive that (probably next week) we'll move on to Stage 2: designing and installing the retic system. :bump: - Breeding in Ken's Aviary
