  1. I will check that. I was just reading about AGY (megabacteriosis). It seems very consistant on each feather though, that is what gets me. On the other bird (the one that is still alive) its not as consistant.
  2. Thanks for that. My guess was a molt but I'm pretty sure he only had one about 2 months ago, he grew back all his wing feathers then. I will check him out when I get home though.
  3. I went out to my budgies this morning before work and saw Sapphyre looking a bit ragged. He was at the seed dish eating just fine and he ran from my hand and chirped a lot at me for trying to catch him, so I thought he must have started to molt or something normal. Now, the feathers all around the head were fluffed up and each feather had a black dot at the end, so in a way his head looked a little like a feather duster. I've seen it on some of my other birds when they were molting, but probably not this bad. I noticed one of my other birds has it a little bit, so I'm a little concerned. I'd provide a photo, but I'm at work, and my partner has just called to tell me Sapphyre is now dead Needless to say, I'm a bit worried. I've had Sapphyre for about 4 months now and Bitey seems to be okay (I bought them together from the same place). Can anyone tell me what this might be?
  4. I like the way you have the bricks laid out there Liv. Is there concrete underneath the sand? I've been contemplating how I will do my avairy floor when my house is finished. I had thought I'd do it the same was as my dad did it years ago and just pour a concrete slab, put sand down and put quail in there, but I'm no builder like my dad.
  5. Thanks guys, I'll get the little guy sorted out shorty.
  6. It's looking that way. He's in good spirits at least, but the lump is still there even now :/
  7. 5 days on AB's (5 more to go), lump is still as big as it was :hap:
  8. I never wanted anything from them except help. It's also quite possible that he hurt himself after I bought him, maybe one of my other guys took a dislike to him, or maybe one of the butcher birds or crows got to them while I wasn't close by.
  9. Yeah I'm really happy about that, of course, if the AB's don't work and he has to go under the knife, well there is significant risk there too. So I'm hoping the AB's do the job.
  10. Vet Diagnosis: Abssess, cause by an infected open wound at some point. Going to give him Doxycycline Hydorochloride for 10 days to see if it clears up before risking an operation.
  11. I will try that MB! Avian Science is just a seed brand, pretty much like Trill but I think there is a couple of different seed types in there. We have it here in QLD, not sure if you have it elsewhere but its on the shelf in woolies/safeway alongside Trill. I forgot about corn! it took my lot a while to pick up on corn but they love it now. I usually give them some milk thistle too, but the place i was getting it from mowed their lawn :/ but that was prior to me getting Sky. The lump appears to go away, I'm not 100% sure if it does or not, its just hard to see sometimes, and others its plain as day, like in the photos. The Vet here said they'd be able to diagnose the bird properly but gave me the number of their avian vet if I wanted to go straight there or the bird needs surgery.
  12. I feed them Trill and Avian Sciene bird seed. I think he's had some carrot and lettuce since I got him, I've been a bit slack with the vegies since I got my new job a few weeks back.
  13. sadly its back again
  14. I'm not looking to get them to pay the vet bills, that was other peoples suggestion. I only wanted them to give me some indication of what is wrong with him, not for them to blantantly say he's fine and I'm dreaming that there is an egg size lump on his chest. I even showed them the photos. I want the little guy to be okay, I picked him out of a cage because I liked him, not the other birds. Well okay, I got a pure white albino too, but she's fine Either way, the vet has given me a few simple things to do until I can get in there to get a proper exam. I know that the exam will probably be about $40 unless I go to the avian vet, which will be more.
  15. That's good to hear Liv! Though from the sounds of it everyone seems to think the lump is terminal. I wish I had more time to actually get him to a vet surgery, the nearest one being a good 20km away (that I know of, unless Derek knows of a good one nearer to me). Thanks Kaz, I have to go near the pet store tomorrow, might see if I can squeeze in an examination tonight for my birdy so I can go there with some info at least.
  16. I don't think they intended to sell me a sick bird, the only sign that there may have been something wrong was he was a bit sleepy when I bought him (though I had seen him flying around a lot prior to that). To be fair, they did ask if I wanted my money back, and I probably should have said yes, but I didn't really want to give up on the bird so easily, he's cute!
  17. The lump appears to have gone down a lot, but he still shivers a lot during the day where the other birds don't, so I'm gonna have to get a vet to check him out soon I think. Other than that he seems fine, nothing out of the ordinary. I'd love to hold the shop to ransom but really, its not like they would pay anyway.
  18. The shop I bought it from (who claim to have a 2 week health guarantee) had the nerve to say there was nothing wrong with him
  19. :fear I'm taking him back to the store shortly. I'm gonna miss him
  20. bloat or apparently burn holes in their insides.... I never knew that... but then, I'd never feed my pets hot food...
  21. I think its been slow over the last 2 weeks, though I only noticed it this week, and at first I wasn't sure if it was just the way the bird was sitting. I just rang the store I got it from, they asked a few questions about his time here, like is he in an aviary, been out flying in the house a lot, wings clipped, eaten hot food... but its none of that. The lump itself is pretty soft.
  22. okay I bought some new birds less than 2 weeks ago, and one has developed an egg size lump on his chest. Yes, it's a boy, so I don't think it's an egg. Any ideas? http://users.on.net/~trentt/Sky1.jpg http://users.on.net/~trentt/Sky2.jpg http://users.on.net/~trentt/Sky3.jpg
  23. I recognise the name from my searches of scaly face. I'm not finding any online for sale though. I do have this AviTrol stuff for mites and lice that has Pyrethrin and piperonyl butoxide in it, but I dont know if it does the same job. You spray it on them. Edit: Hmm if that isn't good enough, Avitrol Plus Bird Wormer might be...
  24. Oh dear that doesn't sound like fun... I've been looking around and we don't seem to have the water based medicine in Australia... I have 7 other birds in that cage
  25. Ahh thanks Liv!! I had wondered all along if it was scaley face but I wasn't quite sure. I'll get him some treatment tomorrow.
