  1. well buddy is progressing nicely! he is confindent enough to sit on my finger with in the cage! i was little worried about letting my 3 year old daughter put her hand in as i thought she might go at him too fast but i caved in and let her and he hopped on her finger without hesitation! i can let buddy out of the cage and easily get him back in by getting him to hop on a perch i am holding, but out of the cage he wont get on my finger. I generally do this when my daughter is in bed so not to terrify him too much, but the other night because she had been so good i got him out while she was still up, buddy flew around the corner of the lounge room to sit on the clothes airer and my daughter quickly followed, here i am in the lounge room growling at her for chasing him and telling her that he is still a little nervous and just let him explore peacfully, well... here comes this little girl from around the corner with a smile from ear to ear with buddy sitting happily on the perch she is holding!! She was mighty proud. It seems buddy is not as nervous around her... maybe it's that she is little and not so scary! Even though she is the noisy one I think that maybe buddy might end up being jades best buddy not mine :hap:
  2. Im trying all the different australian native gum, wattle and bottle brush trees i can find and he seems to enjoy nibbling on them, he doesn't eat alot of it but he is trying them. also my lawns have been getting a little long around the edges and some of the grasses have gone to seed, i have pick a few different varieties for him and he really loves them! is this more benificial for him or is just the same as seed?
  3. Thanks! i tried that tonight and he was picking out the seed but i could tell he was getting a little bit of the other stuff hopefully this means the start of something good!
  4. I have tried every fruit & vegetable in my fridge including cauliflower, brocoli, apple (no seeds) carrot, brussel sprouts, and even grapes! he is just not interested in them he wont even try it, he seems to only be interseted in seed! im worried that he will be lacking nutrition if he doesn't eat a varied diet. is there anything else that i could give him that he might like? or is it cause he is still a baby or nervous about his new home?? Also i have cuttle bone in his cage that he is not intersted in! and on numerous website i have read, it says that sand paper perches make the little guys feet hurt (understabley) but what do i use to keep his beak and nails well manicured?? i have a branch from a gum tree as one of his perches but he doesn't like to sit on it! any suggestions would be greatly appriciated

  7. Well i just had to tell someone! everyone else i know is in bed well this is the 4th night buddy has been in our home and to start with he would flap around crazy everytime i went near him and yesterday he was quiet clam when i changed his water and seed and tonight he was even calmer! He was on the side of the cage (inside) and i put my finger near his foot and to my surprise he put one foot on mine! then he started to eat his seed treat that i gave him, and i sat their for as long as he was willing to keep his foot on my finger... 15 minutes went by and i had pins and needles and all of a sudden his other foot came off the side of the cage on to my finger! it was a momentus experience for both of us! im so proud of my little buddy bird! and after i couldn't take the pins and needles any longer, i moved my hand and he stayed on!! and then i put him near the perch and he steped on!! no flying feathers around the cage! well i just had to share that.... im so proud
  8. thanks heaps, this may sound like a silly question but the only stupid question is the one not asked! when you say eucaplyptus, it's not a specific type is it? or am i just safe with the "gum tree" in my back yard?
  9. thanks throwback researching before i went paid off then! i wanted a young male
  10. Hi i bought my first budgie today and was just wondering if someone could tell me what the sex is please and the age if possible, i read a few articles before buying buddy and to the best of my knowledge i think i have a young bird.... also i would like to put some natural tree branches in his cage for some variety but would like to know what trees are safe for him.
