  1. Some here on this forum know Ive had a sick hen( fluff ) in the past , good news is she keeps on going , she has the Lipomas tumur thing going on in two places chest & between legs , one bad foot that won't bend and is now rock solid , she dosn't appear to be in any pain but what has happened now is she has become very very fat from lack of exersize caused from the bad foot . weighed her yesterday 77 grams ! Vet said some months ago all I can do is keep her quality of life up till things get real bad , she eats two teaspoons of seed a day and some baby spinach , is there any more I can do to reduce her weight through diet or anything as the vet said she will crash ( die ) due to her weight ? As I look over to her now she's resting her stomach on one of her toys for support . Her poops look okay and her mood & spirate is good . she just so fat . Vet wanted to convert her to pellets but Ive tried many times and she just wont take to em ( even when mixed with seed) by not eating at all for day & days to the point I just had to feed her straight seed again . Any more I can do ? Cheers Toohp & Fluff

Hope Elle gets well , she's exactly the same colour as my bird Fluff .
  3. How much Millet is too much ? Since my bird has made a comeback after being ill Ive been spoiling her with her favorite millet , now cause she love's it so much she's not touching her normal seed , Ive been putting a new millet branch in there everyday she love's em ! Oh now she's making a liar out of me , just turned around and she's eating her seed
  4. Can't believe it my bird has made a recovery ! As a couple here on this forum know my birds been very sick and had been up & down for month's to the fact my vet said there's not much more we can do . Well the little monkey is getting better and back eating again as well as her poop's have almost returned to normal . I'm not counting all my chickens just yet but seeing she's getting stronger I think I'll get her inn for some blood test's to see what might be going on for her . I might ask for some xray's as well , do they knock the bird around both taking blood & xray's ? Cheers Toohp
  5. Apart from some budgie grass Ive hand fed her she hasn't eaten a thing for over a day . She's sleeping mostly now & doing a vomiting movement with her head type thing but nothing coming up . Just one very liquid dropping for all day ,she has been drinking but not excessive , she dosn't look as bad as the other day & she's extremely friendly towards me but I'll be surprised if she pulls through now if she dosn't eat anymore .
  6. Yes this is the same bird ( Green One ) She's been okay for a couple of months . Vet said unfortunatly my birds on a downward spiral due to her obesity issue's fatty tumours etc etc and will probally crash soon due to her weight & it's about quality of life for her now . The vet's just trying to get the weight off to help her and suggested the pellets over the seed , my bird just don't like em , actually throw's em out of the dish . No didn't just put pellets , put 80 % seed 20 % pellets . I'm just wondering if I made a mistake with the multivitamin powder , ratio is 1/4 teaspoon to 1 litre of water but I just put a few granels on the end of a knife and droppped into the water for now - maybe too much and made her sick ? Any thought's with regarding the scratching the side of her face around her eye , she was doing very heavily as something was annoying her , Ive seen her rub her head before & scratch but nothing like this she looked a mess . Several droppings were nearly all water & one small dark green . Back to the vets see what he suggest's maybe a blood test althou he thinks she will have elevated properties within her blood due to liver problems contributed from her weight . My poor little girl Cheers Toohp
  7. Came home yesterday to find one side of my birds face was extremely ruffled and not looking too good , I observed her and she was rubbing the side of the face extremely hard on the edge of the branch around her eye etc . It didn't look too good so I removed the branch . About an hour passed and she became extremely sick , started to vomit and lurched forward against a branch as she was having difficulty with balance & breathing as well as not opening her eyes. I thought this is it she's going to die never seen her so sick . She hadn't touched her food all day so I got her to nibble on some budgie grass seed and got her drinking water . I didn't think she would make through the night but to my surprise she did so and in the morning I hand fed her some more grass seed , spinach & millet . She pulled through today and started to look extremely good then she ate from her seed dish this afternoon and almost immediatly started to vomit , she ate some more millet & a little spinach and now's she's stablized again . Could it be the seed ? It's the same seed she's been eating from . She was at the vet's for a check up 4 day's ago he gave me some multivitamins for her water & suggested I try and convert her to pellets again as I failed to convert her last time and she suffer's from over weight problems . Soon as I seen she was sick I changed her water back to normal & ditched the pellets . The vet did tell me not to over do it with the Vitamin sollution and I only put a extremely small amount inn . Looking at her now she's pretty good . Weird ?
  8. okay I'll take it out . Thanks
  9. Came home today and found my bird had chewed the paper in the bottom of her cage , she's never done this before . Then just as I was about to write this thread she went down there again and started chewing and scratching the same section of paper . Any clue's ? Is she getting ready to lay an egg ? If so what should I do ? Cheers

Today - My bird's temperament is fantastic just like my bird of old , happy playfull , super friendly , singing etc etc but some of the poop's are nearly clear liquid or a milky substance . Today's pretty much the last of her medication , see how she goes in the next few day's ? Cheers

My bird is not getting a lot better on the new medication and I'll will take back to the vets this week to get the blood sample's taken & xray . She's still lively alert , playfull etc but still biting , so she' just not 100 % Her droppings are inconsistant one day not bad then one in a day might be very watery , noticed she's still lifting her good leg every so often - so if this is gout or arthritis in this leg is there anything that can be done ? The vet said a all vegie type diet if it is gout , that's going to be hard as my bird is not big on the vegie's , if it's arthritis can anything be done for this ? I don't like to see her in pain . Cheers Toohp

She only has sore's on one foot which is one that has never had full movement since she was little . Turn's out she's been lifting the good one that has no sore's . okay today her droppings have returned to more of a normal looking state with less clear liquid , her mood is good and super friendly again . Ive sanded down her upper perch and wrapped it . Ive just had her sitting on my hand, all was good then she started to lift her good leg then started to bite me hard . I reckon's she's in pain with that leg ? The vet did say he felt her joints were stiff and she might have gout or arthritis as well .

Ive returned from the vet's where they have taken a swab of her dropping and have confirmed she still has Stafflacosis . Vet has given me a different antibiotic to try and also introduce a pro biotic into her water . He believes my bird has major internal issue's ( kidney's ) and the next step is full blood test's and an a Xray . Still saying that he thinks my bird's outcome might not look too promising . Yes we discussed heavy metal issue's at the start , while she was in the hospital I gave the cage a huge clean . maybe I should buy her a new cage ? The vet has inspected the cage and he said he's happy with the condition of it . Overnight one of her feet has started to bleed and sore's have appeared again on one foot again so I'm going to wrapp her perche's again with the Vet wrapp bandage . They have only been unwrapped for about 4 weeks. I have a feeling it was the new main perch with all the bark on it that's been too much for her , I'll sand the bark off and wrapp . I'll leave the one small chewing bark one there for her to de bark I have to go back next week and till then I'll keep an eye on her , she's gone from savage this morning to extremly friendly to savage again just in that short amount of time . She's chirping and singing which I feel is good . Cheers

okay this morning things have changed again , her droppings have changed again . Her mood has gone back to agressive and I have now taken the main mirror out and after some 30 minutes her mood has changed back again to somewhat normal . Just noticed the leg holding up thing again , Ive got an app to see the vet today and will go from there . Here are some pics of her cage and droppings from today . Cheers .

One copper bell , the other is like a gold zinc plated one below the yellow plastic bird in which she strikes the bird to make that ring . Copper no good ? It's inside a tassle rope so she pulls on the end of the rope to make it ring .

okay I'll post some pics tomorrow , I had sheet's of white paper in the bottom so I could see exactly what the droppings looked like and today I removed the one with the large poop's on to see what the new one's were like . Anyway the large one's looked okay as in fairly firm large dark green & white . okay ......., she's actually got three toys with mirrors a spinning one which she just loves to show me her spinning it , one with a yellow bird and bell in which she rings when she want's attention and the main culprit ( larger )which has a step on it in which she sit's on while pecking at the mirror , this is the one were she hangs on too while rubbing her behind on the perch . She also has a rope bell too which she loves to use , really get's stuck into that one when she want's attention , rings it then runs over to the side of the cage to see me . Cheers

No nothing in her cage apart from toy's perch's feed & water , noticed her rubbing her bottom on the perch again tonight as well , the mirror is back in there . I noticed her holding one leg up too never seen that before ? She did have feet problems and her perch's were wrapped for a long time but Ive recently removed the bandaging due to her feet looking better , I have installed a thicker perch for her main top one so she can rest her belly on it to sleep . She's due to see the vet this week as a follow up and a re test of her droppings . Cheers .

I woke this morning to look in my birds cage and to feed etc before heading off to work only to find A MOUNTAIN of Droppings from overnight . As I'm trying to keep her weight down I weighed her again this morning and she's put on 4 grams since returning from hospital and is now 55 Grams . Pretty much what ever I put inn her dish she will eat , so how much seed is enough or not enough ? The mountain of droppings I noticed in the morning came from 3 tea spoon's of seed that I put inn her dish the night before in which she ate the whole lot . Tonight Ive cut that back to two tea spoons . I asked the vet nurse a while ago , the only suggestion they made was cut back to an amount where they hold there weight but not gain . I have a feeling with my bird that could be as little as two tea spoons a day but dosn't seem enough . The vet has been pushing for the pellet diet but my bird just won't take to it . Suggestions ?

She did have a heat lamp , Ive now upgraded to the convection room heater ( $300 ) with a built inn thermostat and a digital temp gauge on her cage keep the room at 20 - 23 deg C . It's been a great help here over winter . She's still doing well and she's got just one more day on the medicine .

Her seed dish is on the lower perch level and her water is on the top as she sleeps on the top perch and I figured would be good for the water near by during the night ? She maybe splashing some water around during the night ? Her seed dish is not really in the firing range of the dropping unless she's facing around the other way now , I will keep an eye on it . She's going well I just have to try and keep her weight down to where it is now , she's flying and climbing around much better now . She looked like she had a bit of a relapse yesterday but's she's been real well today super active & super friendly and her droppings better . Cheers

Ive been removing the mirror for a short period ( 1 hr ) and her behavior settle's - good . Been noticing of a morning lately her eaten seed husk's from overnight look darker almost like there's been moisture mixed with em but there not stuck together in a clump or anything or seem to have dropping's in them . Is there a chance she's doing something here with em ? Cheers

She was treated for worms three day's ago , I just spoke with the vet he said sound's like a sexual thing and try taking the mirror out or covering for an hour , I did take the mirror out for a while boy did I get some bites from her She's going very well so I'm glad and going back in for a check up next week . Cheers

So my bird is back from hospital and she seems back to her normal self except she's rubbing her behind on her perch like a nut while hanging off her mirror :budgiedance: The vet has treated her for worms as well and Ive had to remove the mirror as she's going crazy with it ( was this the right thing to do ? ) She's alway's liked her mirror but sometimes get obsessed with it , but what's with the rubbing the backside thing ? Worms ??? Looking at her now since removing the mirror the backside rubbing seems to have ceased . Any clue's ?
  25. Got my bird back today and all is good her normal chirps and funny sounds are back and she ran straight over to hang out her cage window to see me . The vet said they found a extremely high number of bacterior in her droppings of I think Strep was the name ( streplicosus ) ? She has to go back next week for another droppings test and I have to admin Baytril twice a day in her beak for six day's . I'm just looking at her now and she looks like one happy bird . A big thanks to the staff at Highbury vet clinic in Melbourne once again . Thanks everyone here for your support & kind words .
