Yes Dude only has one wing clipped, until I found this site I had always been told to only clip one wing. I will be clipping his other wing as soon as he is over the dog attack. Dude update; He is still very alert and is even having a little chatter to me. I rang the vet and was told to keep him warm and quiet and to add some elecrolytes to his water. This is a picture from today, the skin where he is missing the feathers looks sore (he didn't like me checking it) but is not broken.

I have done a search for a vet and the closest one is 1 1/2 hours away, the rest are about 2 hours away. I will ring the Toowoomba one in the morning as they are the closest and see what advice they can give me. At the moment Dude is sitting quietly (his cage is still covered) but is alert and listening.

Hi everyone that replied. Today we had a very near miss, my daughter decided to let Dude out of his cage while the dog was inside and due to having his wing clipped (because the kids frequently forget to close doors) Tramp got hold of him. I thought that I had already lost him as he was laying in my hands like a rag doll but then I felt his little heart pounding, so I gave him a quick search and wrapped him up and held him to keep him warm (I don't have a lamp), well after a couple of minutes he wants out of his nice warm nest so I did a more thorough search of him and couldn't find any broken skin or other injuries just a lot of lost feathers. Dude is now back in his cage and has been eating and drinking, at first he was very unbalanced on his perch but was determined to sit in his favourite spot, he can now jump from perch to perch without looking like he is going to fall and even had a little chatter when he heard some wild birds outside. I have his cage covered and have warned the kids not to make much noise in the room or their lives will be at risk. I will post updates tomorrow. This is a picture of Dude at about 3 - 4 months old taken with a flash. The other photo was taken at night with no flash and his real colour is some where between the two. He does have a small amount of colour on the top part of his wings where it should be white but the rest of his wings are black and white. Is he actually a y/f blue or violet ????

Thanks for the welcome everyone! It was a hard decision for me to get another budgie after my last one died as we had been through a lot together including travelling between Brisbane and Cairns as well as around SE Qld, but it has been well worth it, I think I was just waitng for Dude.

Hi everyone, I live west of Brisbane and am owned by 1 10 month old male budgie called Dude, who is a very cheeky character that is happy to be terrorised by my 5yr old daughter, (Laughing out loud), I also have 1 foxy (Tramp) and 2 horses (Happy & Bella). I have owned and bred budgies in the past but had been birdless for almost 8yrs when I bought Dude from a local breeder. Dude is a pretty little yellow faced blue (type 1 I think), he enjoys being out of his cage and is starting to talk, he loves playing with the bells that hang from his toys and pulling his ladder down every time I put it back up. I will post some photos of him soon. Dude's Mum.
