  1. Oh deer! geat shots. We get alot of wildlife, too. Our camp on Manatoulin last winter had moose coming out of the bush to lick salt off the truck. And last summer I was baking bread at 1:00 in the morning and I attracted a big, huge black bear that reared up on its hind legs against the flimsy screen door - he left a huge paw print I will never do that again!
  2. Perish the thought! I work full-time as a clinician, so have no intentions of breeding these two - Unless they want to lay eggs in their food dish, there is nothing to entice them, either. Good for others to know though, and good to know about the colour, thanks Liv and Kaz, I want to understand my babes as best I can...
  3. Name: Erin Pets: 2 budgies:  Georgie (m) and Kazoo (f) Favorite Color: vibrant colours, okay make that all colours Astrological Sign: Gemini Age: Gulp, just turned 40 Weakness: spending too much time online, spending too much of my money buying too many books, perfectionist tendencies which have pretty much been nipped in the bud by my age, loving my 2 little nephews too much Strength: my strength is that I am strong, loving my 2 little nephews too much, I am a great listener, avid reader, and I think I'm pretty decent at my work - I am a speech therapist/pathologist who works with wee ones age birth to 5 years (but I don't like the word pathologist so I call myself a speech therapist instead), I am also a creative writer with published poetry and a former journalist, I love talking to people, too (thus the career), I have messed around with drawing and love and appreciate visual art, and used to play piano but still really love and appreciate music. I am very loyal to friends and family Favorite Animal: humans, sometimes, next dogs and then birds. I also really dig plants Favorite T.V. Show: I like a lot of the ones mentioned here...watched every episode of the Dog Whisperer, also some crime dramas like Criminal Minds (I like the boy genius and Hotchner) and funny stuff like The Office Live: in the great white north of Canada in northern Ontario How long have been a BBC member: since april 2008 I think? Anything else: I just bought my very first house and am moving in this Friday August 1st woo-hooo! Life is good!
  4. Interesting Liv, thanks! So which colour signifies readiness for breeding, blue-white?
  5. My baby hen is getting all growed up. Kazoo is about 6 months and her cere is darkening from pink to brown. Is this significant for any reason other than age?
  6. I told her to paint my toenails pink, not the perch! <sigh> Now what am I going to do? The photo shoot for the cover shot of Birdie Vogue is this afternoon!
  7. Sounds like a stressful situation for you...good luck. I had partnering woes awhile back, but the female was the newbie so perhaps had a better outcome than yours sounds. They eventually were able to be placed together.
  8. In Canada we have an expression to describe a crappy idea, we say we just had a "brain fart" Guess that ties in, eh?
  9. She sat there for the first few months making nary a sound, except for a high pitched chirp, single tone. I think now she can compete with some of those metal birds at the airport now for highest decibel levels !! LOL I love her though....she'll come and eat millet on my hand so we are making progress. Don't want to push her too hard right now with the molting though...
  10. OMG not the couch! !!
  11. So I've never had a hen before. I'm finding it an interesting experience... I was sitting, watching the two of them bicker/banter back and forth when Kazoo, sai hen, placed her left foot on Georgie's breast and used it for leverage to lunge in his face and then push off almost like a good kickboxer... What a B----! Although it was very funny and didn't seem to faze him in the least. Boy, hens can sure dish it out...or is this just because she's going through her first moult?
  12. :hap: :hap: It's their quirks I love....

  14. she's gorgoeous. thanks fo sharing. puppy naps....I remember those. so cute how zonked they get. are you getting a sense of her personality yet?
  15. In the last few years of his life my beautiful buddy Joey fell off his perch increasingly, until he'd do it about once a week. I made sure the perches weren't super high off the ground, and padding sounds like a good idea. But forr him it was part of the aging process.
  16. very cute picture, thanks for sharing. Congratchalations

Oh Liv, that is fantastic. He's such a gorgeouos guy, I'm so happy he's doing better. I know I was really worried about my budgie at one point, Joey was 15 and I had moved into geriatric care with him, but he hung on for a whole other year and a half....and it was lovely time. I hope for this and more with your precious buddy.
  18. kee-ute! LOL
  19. wayyyyyyyyyyyy too huge in the cuteness factor, wowza, they are beautiful! yes yes, a photo of yours once he arrives, please!
  20. Lovely stuff melbournebudgie...they're right. You are talented :parrot:
  21. Hey Liv: Wow! You're a writer - awesome....me too. Used to work as a journalist but now just for creativity. good luck with the agent search, sounds like you are working on interesting stuff! Massive attack is an interesting mix: some mellow, some kinda black: would work well for another script with conflict> I like all their stuff, Mezzanine is an interesting one done more recently It's interesting to me that you write to music...one of the exercises we did in my writing group recently was to write to Bach's organ music and it was such a cool experience!

Two hydrated, well-fed, gastro-inestinally happy and healthy birds back in full swing.... "Thank you! Thank you!" They chirp, "You helped us out so much!!! All is well and we appreciate all the advice!"

Hi Sailorwolf, Liv, DrNat, Kaz and Maesie: Thank you so much for your replies...wow I am amazed at how supportive you have all been with information. I, too, was leery of immediately giving antibiotics without knowing what the problem was. I like the raspberry cordial idea. I will definitely keep some on hand, I'm thinking a health food store may havea purer variety than what's usually available in grocery stores up here. Well.... kept the lamp on him in his hospital cage all night back to regular food, and was awoken by the beautiful sound of Georgie chirping away sounding much more like his norml happy little self. And, even better....HIS POOS LOOK WAY BETTER! I was going to get another snap for further analysis but they are approaching normal: solid, balanced, perhaps a little dehydrated looking. So now I am spraying them with lots of water (which they prefer to drinking out of their little tubes), and am going to just do this very frequently today and monitor closely. I do feel Georgie is "out of the woods" and back to his crazy antics with high energy! Yeah!!!! :fear I am so so so grateful to all of you for your help with this, I could hardly sleep last night!

Kaz, thank you so much....yes, I really did a stupid thing. It's not the first, either. Poor things. So you would say yes, go ahead with the antibiotic??? An what is the Triple C you referred to?? Maisie: Thanks for sharing your story about switching the foood, it is helping me see what a tremendous impact that can have on these little babes.
