Taming Two Budgies In The Same Household
I have a similar situation. The budgie I have is tame and I have had him for about 1 year, he wasn't handreared but we worked really hard with him and now he is great! I really would like to get another budgie and house them together. I have been told it is better to get a handreared bird and they should be fine. the budgie I already have loves spending time out of his cage with me and I really want both of them to be tame and to enjoy being with me. Is it possible to have 2 tame birds housed together?? Or will they just stay together??

Confused Budgie

Wing Flapping
Bossy does that too when we put him in his cage to go to bed and he also squawks when we try and put the cover on. It is definately his way of saying "I'M NOT TIRED!!!" "LET ME BACK OUT OF THE CAGE". he also does it during the day for exercise, but without the racket and carry-on that we get when trying to put him to bed

Confused Budgie
Yeah he is fine with us going near the toy but i suppose it probably won't stay like that ...oh well have to do what is best for him. So it is not that this behaviour is unhealthy for them, it is that they can become aggressive??

Confused Budgie
Thanks Kaz But he doesn't have any mirrors in the cage and i took all the reflective bells off his toys when he was small, this toy is made of rope and beads and the bell i put on the bottom of the toy is not reflective...this is why i can't work out why he is sooo attached or how to stop him  boy budgies see their reflections in all kinds of things. Think like a budgie and see if you can work out what part of the toy he is attracted to and make that part either gone from the cage or so ugly he falls out of love with it PS they also fall in lust with fuzzy rope. randy little boy! i wanted to take the toy out of the cage but my fiance says to leave it in as he may resent us for taking it out. Is it unhealthy for them? we took a toy out of his cage and put it in his play gym as he wouldn't comeout of his cage once i put this toy in and he didn't speak to us for ages. i make alot of toys for him and change them around so he doesn't get bored and normally he loves having new toys but he does get attached to some.

Confused Budgie
Hi All, Boss has taken a liking to one of the toys in his cage . We first noticed he was having his way with the toy as it has a bell on the bottom and we could hear it ringing . It started off a couple of times a day and now it is all the time! i had a look in his cage yesterday and there was a huge pile of what looked like seed in the bottom of the cage underneath the toy. It didn't come out of his seed container as it was far away. i have been reading that budgies regurgitate there seed when they try and feed a mate, but i was just curious if this is what it was and if it is healthy for them to regurgitate so much seed? Also should i leave the toy in the cage and will he settle down eventually? Any advice would be great thanks

Looking For New Budgie Cage
Hi All, I am looking for a new house for my little one. I found a couple on Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/OPEN-TOP-BLACK-or-W...1742.m153.l1262 http://cgi.ebay.com.au/OPEN-TOP-ELEGANT-PA...1742.m153.l1262 However the bar spacing is 1.6cm. I have one budgie and not sure if that spacing is too big? If there is anyone that knows of a good shop in Perth WA or website that ships to Perth WA that sells safe and nice indoor budgie cages please let me know. All of the ones I have found so far in shops are plastic and really small. Any suggestions are appreciated

Tame And Very Independent Little One
Thanks for all your help and ideas I will probably just let him be, it is not a problem that he doesn't like scratches, i was just curious to see if there might be a reason why and to learn more about him. As i said earlier he is my first pet and i want to ask questions and learn as much as i can about him so i can give him a happy life :parrot:

Tame And Very Independent Little One
I don't force him to do anything. He used to fly over and rub his head against my finger, so i would scratch him.He is very independent and will fly away if he wants to. He has a play gym on one side of the room and his cage on the other that is always open and he comes and goes as he pleases. Good because he is my first and only pet and I love him too He gets a bit spoilt and lots of attention. I am a bit worried if he goes through the terrible 2's like kids do hehehe The spoilt ones are always the worst!

Tame And Very Independent Little One
That could be why. I'm not sure if he had those feathers when he last came over for a scratch but it would certainly explain the sudden change. I feel bad now, I didn't mean to hurt him He hopefully knows that i didn't hurt him delibrately because he still comes when he is called. I will remember that, I didn't realise those feathers hurt. Thanks

I don't think he is. Because it has been about 2 or 3 months now.

Tame And Very Independent Little One
Just a quick question...I have a lovely little budgie that I have had since January. He is very tame, will fly to you when you call him and will sit happily on your finger, shoulder or head! He only needs you to put your finger near him and say "up" and he climbs straight on. He is also very happy entertaining himself. He used to love getting scratches on his head and would come to you for them, but about 2 months ago he flies away everytime I put my finger up to give him a srcatch. He is still very happy around myself and my partner but just all of a sudden doesn't like scratches. I can't work out why the sudden change. Could this just be him getting older and more independent? It's not a problem but i just wondered if there was a reason. Thanks

Instant Change In Behaviour
Thanks, I hadn't thought of that. It is hard to know when to leave them alone and when to be persistent :yellowhead: . I will try the perch idea when I get home from work. We have also just started leaving the radio on for him when we are not at home, so hopefully that helps as well. Thanks

Instant Change In Behaviour
Thanks, I will keep trying. The toy I put in there doesn't have a mirror as i have been told before that they can become attached to mirrors, so I made sure I don't give him anything with a mirror. Thats why i am not sure why he changed so suddenly, but if it is just him growing up (the same as the terrible twos for humans) then I will just be patient with him.

Instant Change In Behaviour
Hi All, My budgie that I have had for about 3 weeks now has, over the weekend, changed personalities. He has been hand raised and is a lovely little bird, all I had to do is put my hand in the cage say 'up' and he would jump on my finger. He would come out the cage and sit on my shoulder quite happily. Since Thursday he won't come out the cage, he squawks and pretends to bite (didn't close his beak though). I just let him be for a while but it seams to be getting worse yesterday he bit my partner for the first time ever. I put a new toy in his cage last Tuesday (it doesn't have a mirror on it) and I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it as he never played with any of his other toys but since this one has gone into his cage he doesn't stop playing with it. Any suggestions are welcome as we still need to hand tame him some more, he is only young and we are not sure if we are pushing it to much and need to leave him along for a while??

Seed Junkie
Thanks heaps I will definately try your suggestions. I will try the corn on the cob and get one of those fruit skewers tomorrow. Can you make your own or do you get them from the pet shop? Thanks again and I will keep you updated. He should be able to master this, i caught him opening the door to his own cage this morning!! I should rename him Houdini!!

Seed Junkie
I've got a young budgie that will not eat anything other than seed. I have tried putting fruit and vegies in his cage but he won't go near them. I have grated fruit and vegies and mixed it into his seed and he just pushes it to one side or throws it out the bowl and continues eating the seed. I have been told it will take a while to get him used to other food and I was wondering what I could do in the meantime to make sure he has a healthy diet and any other ways to try to present the new foods to him. Thanks
