  1. I went to the vet today to get him some pain killers all though his beak is a little loose in one corner at his top beak the vet said if i can keep him in and comfortable with pain meds the damage should grow out as he's only young,so he is being crop nedled and given extra doses of calcivet in his food to help it along. He is a gorgeous dominant pied and only a baby.If i had noticed it sooner it wouldn't have happened but his top beak grew long (like a Corella's) into his tongue he is resting and on anti inflammatory meds twice per day, nothing else i can do but keep him warm and comfy while he recovers. Thanks for everyone's input The little guy went to god during the night

  3. Has anyone ever had a baby with a semi detached beak?.I found him today huddled up and he was thin then to my horror i noticed his top beak had grown into the bottom one, while trying to get the top one out it has come loose at the top to the edge near the cere, poor little bugger his mouth was full of blood i crop needled him some ER formula but if he's not going to recover i will have to put him down. Any good information no offence but not speculation and guessing i need to hear from someone who's had this happen before
  4. All pied budgerigars are characterised by having irregular patches of completely clear feathers appearing anywhere in the body, head or wings. These clear feathers are pure white in blue series birds and yellow in birds ofthe green series. Such patches are completely devoid of black melanin pigment. The remainder of the body is co loured normally. The Clearflight Pied has two main characteristics: a clear patch at the nape of the neck and, ideally, completely clear primary flight and long tail feathers. All other features are normal.
  5. I also have a pied that has me stumped too Trish..........maybe we can both get answers here Here's mine the confusing thing is seeing near normal bosy colour markings :)So now theres two puzzles to sort out genetics buffs It looks just like mine.. maybe we will have to take them to the next meeting and get gary or bob to look at them for us.
  6. I bred this little guy this year he came from a dommie cock and a opaline hen,now he doesn't have any markings at all on his body but he does have clear flights, tell me what you think please
  7. I bred this bird in 07,he's actually a lot darker than this, his cheek patch is the same colour as his body (not violet) no one here has seen a slate9Not judges anyway)
  8. Actually i use Baycox as it kills on contact and do it every 2 weeks through this humid weather, but now i also use trimethoprim/sulfadiazine in visually ill birds as it gets rid of the cocci and also clears up any secondary bacterial infections i have had a tub in my cupboard for a while and only realized it's potential when i was reading Rob Marshall's budgerigar book
  9. I dont know if this helps but on the sulfa medication that I use the budgie mix is 3gms to 1L and the poultry is 3gms to 2L I assume this is because poultry drinks more water to body weight than budgerigars , and so doesnt require the higher dose. In the health book that this medication comes with it says to use at a double strenght rate for birds with cocci and in contact birds. I once used it at tripple strenght to save a bird I thought had no chance , it was cold very fluffed up and had lime green droppings , to my surprise it survived and within three days look fine eating on his own and back on the perch. The ingredients in the medication are Sulfadiazine 400mg/g and Trimethoprim 80mg/g . Hope this helps. Thank you This helps very much

after working at xxxxxxxxxxxx as a manager for 1.5 years they budgie on the bag was my idea, as they had printed budgies on t-shirts. the only thing is xxxxxxxxx didnt copyright it because they didnt know whos rights it belonged too. so i thought what the heck-my idea- my bag, if you have noticed though xxxxxxx do "borrow" from other companies, they sold "lone ranger" and "superman" tees in the kids stored which were an EXACT print to the t-shirts in big w which were on sale 2 months previous. they also got sewed for borrowing designs from just jeans lol. also their charity bags DO NOT go to charity, 80 profit to xxxxxx and the rest to pay for the bag. lol cheers guys Jess

the canvas is unframable as it is 4 cm thick( as its not an al-cheapo)but the edge is painted so it doesnt look infinished. the bags are washable, drycleanable, ironable etc and the picture will NOT come off but do not see the point charging $25 for a thin tote type bag when you could buy one for $2 lol cheers Jess

Hi Guys. My daughter just started into the hobby of painting budgies...but she doesnt know how much to sell her pictures for? If i post one could you roughly tell me how much you could sell them for, or how much you personally would buy it for, if you wanted to buy one? A good prepared canvas costs $10+ and then their is the time, effort and the paint. The following picture is of an Opaline-pied in Gum tree, hanging off branch, dimension W=205mm L=250mm She can also paint other birds, such as lovebirds, cockatiels etc. and custom paint pictures And budgie bags, dimesions 400mm x 400mm $12 each Cheers guys would be appreciated Trish And Jess

Could some kind soul let me know the dilution for AIL to spray directly onto my birds, the label is all oily and unreadable
  16. They look like a great idea as far as cleaning and what not.But i think the birds would built up too much condensation, how warm is a nest box with 3 or 4 babies in it you can feel the heat when you lift the door, and the prices are way high i could have 2 nest box's made professionally for the price of one.I would be interested to know how it works out though
  17. My real name is Patricia and my friends call me Trish. I love my budgies but i also spend a lot of time on my bum searching the net for info and forums so hence budgiebum
  18. We bought the bird from Sydney. He will not admit to having sick birds and in all contact so far he is accusing us of allowing his birds to catch things from ours. He said we have psittacosis going through and will not listen to vets diagnosis at all, and said his bird has caught psittacosis from ours. It isnt true and we have no psittacosis. He wont answer the phone or emails, and we have tried sending vet documentation and everything is bounced back or returned unopened. Legal action sounds great in theory but will cost us a great deal trying to prove the case unfortunately. I think this really sucks big time and someone needs to nail this guy (legally or Illegally)
  19. Hi Guys Its been a while since i have been on here.I also posted in the MBC forum. At what age do we take our babies away from their parents? after weaning of course but how long after? and what about the parents do they go into the aviary with the other birds or in to a separate cage?.I would be interested in what you guy's do.I usually put the babies and the parents into an aviary at the same time at about 10 weeks.

I agree i was worried about using my misting system in summer, but i have concrete floors and use baycox at least every 2 months and i figure at some stage the cocci will have to dissapear if you keep treating them and not introducing new birds. They can only harbour so many coccii should think

Wow i dont know who this guy is,but he's way off base he needs to meet some real breeders and not speculate. I have birds in my aviary that i bred 5 yrs ago simply because they have a great character and i love them the oldest one is 13.This is my 3rd year of show breeding but my numbers are small compared to some of the others and believe me we breeders dont make any money, what with vet bills and medications and memberships my birds dont even pay for the seed. When i sell my birds that dont make the show bench i meet the people who are buying them and supply them with a information sheet and a dvd on care and breeding and always tell them, for whatever reason if they aren't happy with the birdie or have simply changed their minds to bring them back to me (their home) for a full refund, and i usually only get $10/$15 per bird so that aint gonna break the bank, they also get a small bag of seed so a change of diet doesn't make them crook, and as for keeping birds in a aviary being cruel.. couldn't be any further from the truth. They have a heat light to snuggle under in winter, fresh seed and water every day plus vegetables and gum leaves.. geez... and in the summer months they have a aircooler in there as well it's like a hotel here my husband complains that they get fed better than him lol ,and they survive longer under these conditions than in the wild,I dont think there would be too many 13 yr old budgies flying around in the bush.okay there are some people who sell their birds for hundreds of dollars, but they have spent a lot of time and money to eventually get where they are and now have a good reputation and bloodlines and bloodlines are what really count.

Most vets are pretty hopeless when it comes to bird diseases, you really need an avian vet.The wild doves carry mites as well they could've infected your bird,i use ivermectin(s76) in the water a few times a year and spray with coopex twice a year.Seems funny that these so called mites have only affected his eye.I had a bird with a funny eye for 4 yrs and my vet reckoned it was an sinus infection, but eventhough it was treated it never got any better he died a few weeks ago.Is there any brown discolouration on his head above his cere? is his breathing okay?
  23. Was the squeaking noise more like a squeak or a problem breathing?.Do your birds have any dirty marks around their heads (just above the cere),if so it sounds like it could be psittacosis,do you have a local vet whom you could take a clean poo sample to,if it is psittacosis they would probably be shedding it in their droppings.Sorry for your loss, you need to do something fairly quickly or you could lose the lot.If you dont know what they have contracted, you wont know what to treat them with,a vet is probably your only option, next time a bird dies, wash it's body and put it in the fridge until you can have it autopsied,i have done this several times and at least i knew for sure what the problem was.My vet would charge about $50 for an autopsy, but this could save lots of money in the long run.Good Luck
  24. Sounds like your birds may have psittacosis, this is a respiratory disease that also affects humans. You need to get some psittavet from your local vet and treat all of them for 45 days, you could also try triple c avail from your nearest bird dealer, the main ingredient is doxycycline.. the stronger the betterhttp://www.ccohs.ca/oshanswers/diseases/psittacosis.html
