  1. They are great photos and very beautiful babies. My quarantine cages are ready and waiting and so am i. Hey Dave, are you are beer or wine person?
  2. they are at a age where they understand about being gentle, my kids are 12, 10, 4 and 2 but my 4 year old is the one my birds love to climb all over, i have to watch my 2 year old.
  3. My favourite thing is to hear Tweety and Runt talking to each other. Tweety was by himself for 12 months and we taught him to talk and then 2 months ago i put one of my handraised budgies in his cage and he started talking to him and now Runt repeats what he says so it is so cute to listen to them calling each other "pretty boys" especially when they are both boys. Runt is my favourite because he is very special to me, he was one i handraised and nearly died. i would like to have my birds out more often but they only can be out at night when my youngest is in bed.
  4. i have four kids and have 2 tame budgies and the kids handled them as much as i did when i was training them. I also handraised 4 babies which the kids cuddled alot and it did not seem to make them any harder to train. i had one of my birds who used to kick his seed every where but as he got older he grew out of the habit.
  5. i am so glad the operation went well and hopefully the results will all come back good.
  6. i do the same as Kaz with worming and put it in the water but for any time i need to catch them i just use my hands but i have only got 10 and do not have a big aviary.
  7. okay so now i know her type i have another question because she is carrying the violet gene if i want babies to be violets what cock bird would i pair her with. i have a cobalt recessive pied male if i paired her with him when she is older would there be a chance of producing some violets or because she is a skyblue violet do i have to pair her with a violet. i hope that makes sense. i have trying to read about genetics but my brain just cannot work it out.
  8. i clicked on your link Kaz but it said the web page could not be found so do you think she is a sky violet, i thought violet only showed on a cobalt. i have learnt something else new today about genetics
  9. i started weaning my babies by hanging a millet spray on the side of the cage and when they walked passed it they would check it out.i found for some reason my would not eat the moistened seed but when i put millet seed in a shallow bowl in the bottom of their cage they took to it.
  10. thanks Neat for asking that question, now i have learn another new thing about genetics this morning.
  11. i am glad you are working it out, i am still struggling to understand it.
  12. Violet seems to have finally finished her first moult and i can finally get into the aviary and not get attacked by her. What i am wondering is if she is cobalt or sky blue, when i compare her to the blues i have she is too dark for a sky blue but too light for a cobalt and she has dark patches around her neck so what do they mean.
  13. They are pretty babies i especially like the mother

It is great to hear that there is a least one pet shop that cares about budgies
  15. sounds like you had a big job cleaning, i hope you have no more problems with mites.
  16. Thank you Dave, i live at Metford but a lot of people have never heard of it so i say Newcastle which is only 20 mins from me. My husband is having time off in the school holidays so if you cannot get up to my place i can get to sydney. Your babies are looking very beautiful, you have done a great job with them. i really appreciate you giving some birds to me.
  17. i am sorry to hear about your Grandpa, i will be praying that the surgery goes well tomorrow.
  18. i used to do colony breeding but i lost 2 hens because they where fighting over a breeding box and i had more boxes than pairs in the aviary so i have stopped breeding till i can build a breeding room and cabinets. my personal opinion is that colony breeding is not the perfect setup and i am not risking my birds lives anymore by doing it.
  19. i am in the newcastle area, Dave but i do not mind travelling to sydney to buy good birds from a breeder who cares about his birds. When you decide which ones you are selling just let me know, it must be so hard to part with any of them. i would be interested in the opaline if you decide to part with that one, i do not have any opalines in my flock and i would definitly be interested in the recessive pieds.
  20. thanks for explaining the ino gene for me, i would be really interested in your recessive pieds, i love their colours so i really want to breed some and have been trying to buy some but have not been able to find any in my area.
  21. sounds like you have got some beautiful coloured babies but can i ask what is the ino gene and how would you see if a spangle is split for it, sorry if it sounds a stupid question.
  22. thanks dave, when you work out what you are parting with let me know, i am also looking for a violet or cobalt because i have a 4 month old female cobalt spangle and i am looking for a male for her to pair with she is old enough.

Molly with her i am not impressed look
  24. i am still around Dave and have been following your post and love watching how much the babies are growing but have not been having time to write any post as i am dealing with family issues at the moment. i love pieds and spangles and only have one male recessive pied at the moment so i am looking for a girl for him as the one i bought for him died a couple of weeks ago.
